  1. Bunch of kids with too much time on thier hand..or should I say may have alot if time hanging on thier hands...idiots !!!
  2. That's why there are jail cells....
  3. Ok.....lets try this...What kind of blue light should I get for my Tahoe? And what about the rope escape mentioned above? I feel a rope, biner and a tool such as a halligan for anchoring is the best way. I know they are coming with all kinds of systems now and from what I have seen they work but how much more equipment are we going to weigh ourselves down with. Whatever you use training and lots of it is the key with self bail. Blue lights are a sore subject with me...LOL

  5. Very good question. This is a tough one. While we do have a right to know I also feel in the interest of our security perhaps not knowing certain things is to our benefit. I also think this just adds to fear and makes people more paranoid, especially our kids.
  6. They are no different than those who bomb abortion clinics and murder people in the name of God. Self righteous phonies that claim to know who God hates and who he doesn't hate. We have had fires, floods, and natural disasters for as long as time has existed so all of a sudden God is punishing us now??? They represent terrorism in my opinion..
  7. It's the sign of the times...
  8. 585...I couldn't have said it better....
  9. This should be a no-brainer....a LODD is a LODD. Why must things be so difficult????

  11. Monday, Gary Police Chief Thomas Houston said Darius Moore, the driver, and the other 17-year-old survivor, DeAndre Anderson, had been drinking illegally, their car was speeding and the boys -- who walked four blocks away from the crash -- had initially misdirected police to the accident location. I think this sums it up. It is unfortunate this happened. Young lived lost due to alchohol and speed. Maybe the police should of called for help but when the smoke clears who is really at fault???
  12. May he rest in peace. God bless our armed forces....
  13. When I used to conduct the training in my department I obtained a copy of the NYS minimum standards sectiion 426 which is requirements for career firefighters in NY and used it as a guideline. I also refered to NFPA 1001 as well. Firehouse Magazine has downloadable drills which has been very helpful. You seem to have the bases covered. The 8 hour OSHA is merely safety training and should not be the only training conducted. I also agree 100% with Gepetto...training in self rescue is definitely a must and it should be on going. Hopefully you may never need it but just that one time...
  14. If you recall a few years ago in a department out west a volunteer firefighter was found guilty of manslaughter. He was driving to a call and was polluted. The truck rolled and a young female firefighter was ejected and killed. Wake up !!!!!
  15. I found it amazing and more so disturbing that so much effort put in by FASNY to try and stop the police from using blue lights. I believe once again it was an issue that FASNY was afraid that it may end up where the blue light would of been considered an emergency light and volunteers would no longer be able to use blue lights. When you really look at it they do not serve any purpose and before some of you throw rocks at me just consider this....you are responding to a call and you come across a red light. You stop and now are waiting for the light to turn green. Cars who have a green light also stop. What do you do? You can't proceed untill the light changes...correct? I feel the light creates more problems.

  17. At least the taxpayers will not have to feed, clothe, medicate, evaluate and provide all other benefits given to pieces of trash like him. I am sure however some anti-cop liberal group will find fault with the officer who shot this mutt.
  18. I am for anything that would create a safe enviornment for drivers. I also feel it should be illegal to convert apparatus such as described above. I realize this could have a cost impact in some departments but the it does not compare to the cost of a life.
  19. Besides a hi-powered weapon the perp was wearing a bullet proof vest according to the news. Who knows what intensions this piece of trash had. I hope they find this mutt and do justice....perhaps throw him in the Everglades...I am sure the Alligators would appreciate it. Prayers go to the family of the murdered officer and also a speedy recovery of the injured. May the officer who died rest in peace.
  20. "It is my opinion that the cause of the crash was a combination of speed and driver inexperience," Stedman wrote. Fire Department records show that Beebe-Lawson had only 37 1/2 hours of logged firefighter training, including 22 1/2 hours of truck driving and 7 1/2 hours driving the 3,500-gallon Freightliner tanker, when he got behind the wheel at the station, Stedman's 41-page report states." This is a typical but unfortunate picture of the problem. Most accidents are caused by driver error which usually equates to driver inexperience which is the result of not enough or no training at all. The New York State did the right thing by mandating EVOC to take Pump or Aerial OPS. Now departments need to step up to the plate and make EVOC mandatory to be a driver. There have also been cases where members were involved in accidents while driving thier POV's. And in many cases speed again was a factor and this is because in many cases someone joins thier dept and is given a blue light card so they can purchase a blue light brighter than the sun so the thought process is I have authority to speed and drive like a maniac.
  21. You are correct and unforutnately I have seen this apply to some within our ranks as well.
  22. We were returning from an MVA. As the engine was backing up one of our members came running up to the bay and said the tower was hit. We all ran to the rec room and watched in horror. A short time later we were called to the training center and than to the Bronx.
  23. Rest in peace and may God watch over his family
