  1. Sounds like a job for James Bond.
  2. It's kind of like the person who's helmets are covered with dragon slaying or FDNY stickers that never went into the fire yet they seem to have soot all over thier faces and/or are coughing due to alledged smoke inhalation.
  3. Good response. Must be tough working for a Mayor that has no regard for you guys. Then again he is too busy pretending he is doing a good job. I hope you guys take this all the way and improve the conditions you deserve to work in.
  4. I agree that Chief's who are in an authorized vehicle reckognized under the provisions of V+T law for emergency vehicles should have the red lights but how can you justify anyone else? Captain's and Lt's usually ride on the rigs so why the need for red lights? I am not into the light thing but I do have an interesting observation about blue lights. The other day I was behind a dump truck on 9-A where all the construction is going on and on the back of the truck were blue flashing lights and the police car parked there for traffic also had blue lights on the back. I must say it caught my attention more so than other lights. Better call the blue light police
  5. Just about everything corporate America as well as government can outsource. Jobs, services, etc. Do it cheap is the agenda while we watch Americans lose jobs and watch our economy wither away while it prospers elsewhere.
  6. What's next....the Rose Bowl, World Series? Keep it home where it belongs.
  7. Any training prop is as good as its instructors and the studen't enthusiam and willingless to learn. Don't be so quick to judge.
  8. I don't believe the issue here is who has the perfect system rather does a union have the right to tell it's members what they can or can not do on thier off duty time? And I agree this world is going corporate so ALL unions better focus on what is most important to us and that is the healthcare system. And who said the volunteer system is so great?
  9. I will assume your youth is the reason behind your statement. To say you want to be a career firefighter and not care about the IAFF is contradictory. Unions are designed to protect the worker and today protection is always needed. I am not a member of the IAFF and at times I disagree with them but they are doing what any union is supposed to do and that is to look out for the interests of thier membership...if the didn't why bother existing. Before we get emotional on this lets see where this goes. This bill has to be passed and quite franlky I don't see it happening due to the govt's emphasis on volunteering and asking citizens to get involved. I hope this does not become another paid-volunteer issue. Let cool heads prevail.
  10. I believe Firehouse is owned by Cygnus Publishing. Like any other business they are out to turn a profit. I remember Firehouse in the 80's when it was mostly what I called a buff magazine because it was mostly pictures and not too much in repsects to training where Fire Engineering was more of a technical magazine. It has now in recent years become more technical but I agree the ads are a bit much. I am also bothered that I pay for cable tv yet there are too many commercials as well.
  11. May he rest in peace.
  12. This is a tough one. I do agree any law abiding citizen has the right to carry a gun but what is at stake here is our kids who in any event will become victims. What if the teacher is overpowered and the gun is taken? What if the teacher snaps and shoots a student? And do schools want to bear the liability of guns in thier school? Everyyear I have to requalify and be lectured on Article 35 ( NYS Justification of Force). Would teachers be bound to the same? Usually permits have to simply be renewed. What plan would be in place for training? Sounds like an argument for law enforcement in schools where you would have trained officers who know how to react if God forbid some EDP comes in and attempts to cause harm.
  13. The Yankees went down hard this series but not without a fight. Thier starter last night left alot to be desired but nonetheless they went down as the true champions they are. I hope to see Joe Torre next season.
  14. Happy Bday and many more
  15. While I would agree a city official should be careful what he/she says especially with all the politically correct police lurking around I don't believe his comments were directed to the female probie and it is a waste of time and taxpayer money to have this investigated. He has apoligized numerous times and that should be enough but unfortunately today sorry isn't enough anymore. We have firefighters, cops, correction officers, emt and medics as well as our troops dying and being injured everyday yet a big deal is being made out of a comment used all the time...even by women. It is rare I agree with Mr. Pagano but I agree it does take.....well you know
  16. Als my comment was general also, not a direct reply either. I like the pic of your dogs. Sorry to hear of your other dog. Years ago I had to bring our sick dog who was dying to be put down...not easy.
  17. This is very true. Nothing like a classroom setting which allows for questions and discussion. On-line training can be good for re-inforcing what you have learned in class.
  18. I still say it is cruel. I am a dog owner and just can't accept it. Also, my dog was "fixed" so I did my part in cutting down the amount of dogs being born. She still look for her morning smooch from the dog behind us...
  19. What I find amazing is Michael Vick stands under indictment for his role in animal cruelty yet this barbaric practice of murdering dogs is allowed to happen. When they find the mope that abused the 3 year old girl in Nevada I will nominate him to be the next "animal" to be the subject of thier experiment. Any second to this???
  20. First as a back up. Also, when I was involved in the spec process as a chief my thought process was to get rid of two vehicles that were aging and get something that would replace both vehicles. I also wanted it to be a FAST vehicle and have members of my department take the FAST training so we wouldn't have to tie up our main rescue/pumper. I am not sure what the plans now being I am a grunt. Being a grunt is pretty cool
  21. Because as usual thier pitching...well you know
  22. May he rest in peace.
  23. It is a multi-purpose vehicle. You have to be careful when you designate a vehicle as a rescue. I dont believe we will be carrying the necessary amount of equipment to call it a rescue unless the powers to be decide to do so. We have a rescue pumper that carrries a sizeable compliment of rescue equipment.
