No chest decompressions allthough we were showed how to do them. Sticks and tubes under direct supevision of the medic. Only tubes I did were in the OR during rotations. And also manual de-fib.

I support any regionalization but I don't see it happening with jobs being lost especially in the upper ranks of management.

My " I " expired last August and I did not re-new it. Not enough exposure to maintain skills. Most medics allowed me to do sticks but that was rare being most calls I ran were bls or I was stuck driving. I will say the class made me a much better emt and learned alot more on shock and trauma.

I knew Tom when I was a member of PFD. He was a true gentlemen and just simply a nice guy. He is still missed. The news said today there may be some DNA which could have a twist in the case. Lets hope those involved are caught and dealt with.

I don't believe the coordinator has that authority. A chief has the authority to say who is wanted. Something I have been against. I would rather just call 60 and say send me an engine, truck, fast, etc and let them worry about who is coming assuming the closest resource is who is being summoned. The IC should only hae to worry about the incident.

Out of respect for the other posters as well as the site administrators I will address you and this comment in private.

Bravo GAW!!!! Couldn't of said it better. And I believe I also made the same suggestions when I was chief that ended up in certain hands of elected officials. The very same suggestions that were attached to a series of unsigned letters sent by COWARDS who for some reason were afraid to sign thier names.

Read, study, and practice. You should be confident enough to teach the material as my first emt instructor told me. Also, hook up with a study group and make it a point to meet at least 1x week. Good luck!!

I agree with all you stated but workmans comp. What is wrong with workmans comp if one of us suffers a LODI ?

Chris was a true fighter. He will be missed. May he rest in peace.

I believe the issue is were you injured on duty or in the line of duty. I had broken my ankle two years ago while on my post yet I was denied 207-c because it was determined that my injury, allthough occured on duty was not considered in the line of duty because at that exact time I was not performing any duties pertaining to my job description. I was entitld to workmans comp and my employer had to pick the difference in my salary pursuant to our labor agreement.
-
207-c is for law enforcement and 207-A is for firefighters. Both I believe have similiar benefits. If you are on workmans comp you are not on either 207-c or 207-a and your income is taxable. I went through it with my broken ankle. Allthough I was hurt on the job it wasnt considered line of duty but on duty so I was only entitled to workmans comp but fortunately our labor contract states my employer has to make up the difference. I would check your labor agreement and also contact a lawyer that specializes in this issue.

I think it is a great idea. All that glitter draws too much attention. Would probably save some money for the taxpayers as well.

Being some of my past posts have ended up on the desk of elected officals courtesy of a few cowards on here who have sent these posts unsigned I will put my neck out there by saying I have been a big advocate of consolidation for years. Unfotunately my belief stands with a minority. There is way too much duplication of equipment. I believe my town has far more equipment than White Plains yet we dont have the population or call volume they have. Westchester 2000, allthough having good intenions, did not solve anything because the real players did not want change and this stems across both the volunteer and career ranks. I applaud those who want to step up and try to make this happen. But I am not optimistic you will see any drastic changes because there are too many power hungry people in this business who will not give up thier thrown. I feel an alternate solution would be sharing of services which includes automatic aid, sharing of equipment, insurance, fuel, training, etc. It may not be as effective as merging but a step in the right direction.

You did the right thing. Unfortunately there is no shame to some people's game.

A safer year....

Best wishes to all for a happy and safe holiday season.

If the chief went to see the Giants..cut him some slack...if it was the Jets...well....

I disagree, respectfully. First, nothing is " deserved". Those who choose to be chief should do so with the intensions of making a difference and helping to lead thier department, not what perks can be obtained. Also, there were a few times I was in my POV and came up on an incident in my district ( and I do drive a Hundai) and handled it. I would take my portable with me. All I needed. The members did the rest as always.

I will answer as a former chief. My dept has rules governing the use of the car and it prohibits taking the car to work unless you can leave work to answer calls. I work 5 minutes from where I live and volunteer yet I never took my car to work because I am not able to leave. And if I went out of town where I would not be in a position to respond I would take my own car unless going out of town for departmental business. I believe there are NY comptroller opinions on use of dept vehicles.

Very nice. It is not about politics. It is about Americans going above and beyond. I say thank you.!!!

Yes it was stupid but it seems to be a growing trend which sometimes results in fatal consequences. And don't they know internet activity is being watched? I believe it is time to start making harsh examples out of these kids. Perhaps a few days of " vacation" where I work may do the trick.
