  1. May he rest in peace.
  2. "I think you would also get more participation if the Fire District Elections and all other elections were held in November, that way you might actually see more than 30 people vote. Also setting up an election day is paid for by the tax payer, so why do we need to pay for state/fed (nov), FD (dec), town/village (march), school (may) instead of paying 4x........do it once and get more people out." I like the idea and agree that more people would come out and vote. The only issue I see is for example I vote in general elections at my townhall, school elections at my school, and fire district elections at my firehouse. My firehouse is also used for general elections and only people who live in a certain voting district can vote there for general elections. Would election law have to be amended? How could this be cooridnated?
  3. In trying to decifer the language of this bill I have a few questions. 1. The bill allows for districts to be dissolved and transfer power to the town board. What if a town board does not want to take it over? 2. Each FD has a benevolent association. Would that have to merge as well? 3. I see Mt. Pleasant was mentioned in a post. Was an actual study conducted? 4. How will leadership be established in respects to Chief, Capt, LT, etc. Thank you.
  4. Congrats and good luck Dave.
  5. Yes and it doesn't surprise me.
  6. As a former chief I take issue with the notion the we deserve perks such as unlimited use of a chiefs car. Just like volunteering as a firefighter I at one time chose to be a chief officer. I did not expect anything other than the privelege of serving my department and community in the best capacity that I can. Whatever benefit I was given I took humbily and knew what is here today could be gone tomorrow. This goes for service awards as well. Yes alot of time and aggravation comes with the job but we chose to do this and should not feel we deserve anything.
  7. NIMS should not be limited to just officers. Anyone could end up being incident commander.
  8. First, good luck to Irvington FD. I know some people there and they are a top notch FD. The issue with the truck does not surprise. Reckless spending seems to be the norm today everywhere at all levels of government. It is very easy to waste other people's money.
  9. My quoting of the 1st Amendment was not intended for Seth or his website, I was responding to someone who said his department was taking thier rights to free speech.
  10. "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances." Anyone disagree???
  11. A comment was made that VFD and VAC people are a different breed. Having belong to both as well as doing some ems per-diem work I have yet to see what the diffeence is.
  12. If I was single using my real name would not bother me but because of what I do for a living and for the protection of my family I prefer to use my screen name. Most people on here know me and if you need to know send me a PM.
  13. The liability lies with the AHJ. Arson checks are law in NY and any AHD must comply with the law. On another note the executive law should be expanded to allow for a total criminal background check.
  14. (Moderator note: Thanks to 'EM2FD' for posting the original story) Rest in peace.
  15. Leave it to a chief....
  16. So he was hearing voices??? From now on those voices will be saying " lock in" " On the chow" or " i want those sneakers"....
  17. I have flown Jetblue a few times now and have had nothing but good experiences. In fact I just booked them for this summer out of Westchester to Orlando.
  18. In many volunteer fd/ems agencies you have chiefs that are not emt's but they do not get involved with patient care nor do they get involved with the "hands on" day to day ops of ems. In my dept we have ems officers who by district rules must be emt's and handle all ems issues ( QA, QI, ordering supplies, ems training, etc) and naturally the emt handles patient care on an ems job but a fire chief is not going to call the shots on patient care but does call the shots at a fire.
  19. This can be dangerous for the patient. In the past I have asked people like this simply to go to the rig and pretend he/she is a wheel chock. It is an important job
