Another terrible tradegy. May they rest in peace.

There should be a penalty. We are talking about tax money which is being pissed away as it is.

I can undestand the merchants concerns given the times however a parad is once a year and is a part of what little of old town traditions that are left. I have a suggestion..do away with the judging. Who cares who's truck gets best pumper or 2nd bess dress uniform. I think it would speed up the route and bring things back to normal quicker.

Very sad. May he rest in peace.

When you say govt agencies do you include fire districts or ambulance districts? I thought they could not bill.

2. It's amusing watching these alleged politicians trying to 'control' or 'punish' Wall St. - it's rather like watching a flock of sheep trying to legislate against wolves. Wall St. will find approximately 58 different ways round any such laws within five minutes of Obama signing them. And the biggest one is Barney Frank who is trying so hard to divert any attention away from him.

Scary !!!

I wouldn't consider this guy a buff rather a pathetic psychopath.

I always look at things objectively and don't get involved in a paid-volunteer issue but you can't raise a quesiton like this than make a statement that it is not meant to cause problems because there will be those who will deem it as an attack. Personally, I don't deem it as an attack as I respect all opinions and would never jump on anyone for expressing them. That aside, to my knowledge my union does not have any clause that addresses volunteering. I do not believe a union has the right to tell it's members what they can or can not do on thier time off. We live in a country that guarantees freedoms where many, including those who post on this board have fought to give us those freedoms. I also believe the issue here is training and manning capabilities where there have been some very good issues raised. Let's not make this a union issue.

I agree to a point. We need to tightem our belts. My only concern is cutting money to the space program. Doesn't that play a big part in our national defense?

We saw first hand how privitization of fire deparments work here in NY. It doesn't. And it is worse in prisons.

Your county tax is probably the smallest of your tax bill. While I understand the reasoning for wanting to abolish county govt many of what the county provides is dictated by state mandates. And last time I looked the state is in worst shape than the county. To my knowledge they haven't passed a budget on time for years. The services will have to be provided wether it be by the state or local agencies but we will pay regardless. I will use county police for example. Who will patrol the parkways? Local or state? Who will issue gun permits? Do training? The copter? Forensic investigations? Bombs? All of these are done by county police and if taken away the burden would be put on alleady strapped local and state police. I jus't dont see it happening nor have I seen any jusitificaiton to abolish county government. Like they say be careful what you ask for...

History question. Who remembers WPLJ and them playing " Bennie and the Jets" from Elton John over and over???
-
I would like to answer this. There is plenty of blame to go around. The state, FASNY, and ourselves for allowing the conditions as we see to be where they are. I have written to the state and FASNY with no results. I was a state instructor when the transistion went from Basic FF to FF1. The original curriculum was slated for alot more than what is taught now. Did you hear FASNY complain? Lobby to keep the course at the level it should be? Maybe if a blue light bill was attached to it they may of addressed it. I do want to wish the team the best of luck. I know alot of time and effort went into this team.

Like I have said before it is only the beginning.
