  1. I believe Mt. Pleasant was in a state of emergency. Anything goes. The right choice was made in my opinion.
  2. I can not speak for my department but I will say way too much equipment goes to these parades. The taxpayers buy equipment to service them, not to win a contest as to who has the best looking rig which in my opinion is ridiculous. Now I am not against a show of pride in fact my favorite parade has always been Memorial Day as we are in town and we are honoring those in the military that have sacrificed thier lives. I do believe that parades are out of hand. JMHO.
  3. This was an opinion I recieved from the state comptrollers office regarding FOIL:
  4. Unfortunatly I believe this is the case. Seems our liberal society is more concerned about protecting sc** bags like these two than those who are there to protect us. Than once they are in prison society is even more concerned how they are treated. I also cannot judge what these officers did I am just glad they were not hurt.
  5. What qualifies a vehicle to have " Special Operations" put on it? Is it equipment, training or a combination of both. Looking for opinions.
  6. Never skied in my life....perhaps it's time

  9. Great topic with alot of good tips. One training tool I used to do in my former department was you get a bunch of index cards and write on each card a piece of equipment, it's use and where on the apparatus it is kept. You hand it to a member and he/she has to find it than explain it's use. Helps remember where stuff is. Simple but it works.
  10. Up to this post I have not seen any "monday morning quarterbacking" or " commentary." What I have seen is people simply asking questions. Is this a bad thing?
  11. I would like to ask what posts have been deemed offensive that this topic even had to be raised. I have yet to read anything that has been offensive or deragatory or would hurt one's feelings.
  12. I say no to censorship. People have the right to express thier opinions. I have always maintained the belief that being thick-skinned is part of this business. If you can't handle criticisms in a forum can you handle it anywhere else?????
  13. Weren't we the first ones there? Did not we send thousands of troops? Rescuers? Money? When Italy can match what we did there and what we do all over the world than maybe this "disaster official " can say something. ALS is right...next time we should sit back and watch but we won't.
  14. Fire districts are public entities that are subjected to FOIL. What about fire companies within a fire district that allthough are private accept donations that come from the public? Do they not operate under fire district guidelines? Don't people have the right to know how money that they donate is being spent?
  15. Opinion I received today from the state comptrollers office stated that fire companies are "agencies" and are subjected to FOIL. This is based on several court cases.
  16. I agree. The kid should of used his head knowing the history of terrorism and airlines.

"The Biggest thing isn't what apparatus the F.A.S.Team comes on its the equipment they carry, depoly, the pro-activity of the F.A.S.T members and leader and most importantly the level of training of the members who respond." Very true statement. You can have all the tools and equipment but if your people don't have a clue what they are doing than it can be a dangerous scenario.

  19. It is very easy for one to sit behind a desk and write about things that one has no clue of. The fact that this moron had to go back to incidents to 2001 to beef his story tells me that he is reaching. It would be to "nice" to report all the good firefighters do "nice" doesn't attract attention especially with the media.
  20. I have no knowledge of water ops and perhaps not qualified to comment here but what about a Coast Guard station in the vicinity of the bridge? The Hudson is used as a flight path. There is heavy boating traffic. There are more accidents in the river than there are jumpers. We are in close proximity of NYC so why can't it be done? If not the Coast Guard why not County Police from both Westchester and Rockland? We can't keep saying YFD, FDNY or NYPD will be there. They are quite busy as it is and are responsible for thier own cities. We need a dedicated unit for the river. Maybe between Westchester and Rockland a combined effort of the TRT's?
