Izzy very nice pictures. I love history especially fire service history. Thank you for sharing.

I think it is a bad idea. How do the firefighter protect themselves? Water can? Deck gun? Firefighters put fires out, not deter crime. Thats what the cops are for. I wonder what stance thier unions have taken?

Besides charging the kid which I believe should be done how about holding the powers to be at the "home" responsible? Seems to me based on some of the posts here there is a management problem at that "home".

I am researching information for my son. I was told that NYS DEP officers do not have line of duty benefits such as other law enforcement officers under GML 207-c. Can any one shed light on this? Are there any DEP officers that are in EMTBRAVO? Thanks.

1980....long coats, 3/4 boots, plastic helmets, rubber gloves, plectron. Turnoout gear not issued just on the rigs...first come first serve. Rode the tailboard with no straps. Scott 2's. Allthough things were done a bit backwards at times it was good times. No service awards or other perks. Rookies did what they were told without question. There was a strong brotherhood. No drama, no non-sense. You got your b**lls broken and took it. You wanted to be there and be part of the family. Today???

At the very least a verbal counseling would of been enough. Suspension is too harsh. These were gang members under the supervision of the department of correction which means they are criminals. What next...suspended for looking at someone the wrong way??? Give me a break!!!

My condolences. May he rest in peace.

I am not a cop but a LEO of a differernt nature but what I find in my job is many of these decisions do tie hands of all LEO's. Crime Cop is correct...we are talking about drug dealers who have one agenda and that is to make money killing kids by poisoning them and the sooner those who have the power to make/change laws see this maybe we will get most of them off the street. Remember the border patrol agents who did time for shooting a known drug dealer while crossing the border. They should have recieved medals instead they got prison time untill thier sentences were commuted by George Bush before he left office. Allthough a different case it is the same mentality.

I read the story on Lo-Hud. As a dog owner I know it is tough to lose a pet but I can imagine the grief when you work so closely to a pet that seemed to have a productive career. Rest in peace Pretzel.
