  1. Don't rule out privitazation of municipal jobs.
  2. I had the pleasure of taking a collapse class at Camp Smith a few years back that he taught. Great instructor. Best wishes on his retirement.
  3. Your second to last sentence sums up why most people won't run...time. And while you definiitely make some valid points, I feel you are making general statements about fire districts. When I ran last year I had two opponents, one happened to be a well intended, non-fire service member who simply wanted to get involved.
  4. Your dad is correct. There is a limit. After 5 years the term is up and there is an epection. Like any other elected offical if you feel that person is not living up to the expectations he/she was elected for you vote them out.
  5. Give them thier "entitled" 3 meals a day, recreation, medical and dental, access to a law library where they can pass drugs and learn how to sue correction officers..all this while an average 20 year appeal process for a death penalty case. Unfortunately, here in NY anyway, even with the law on the books they are not frying anyone. The other alternative is life in the box and let them rot naturally.
  6. There is no respect for law enforcement. The perps simply don't care. And it gets worse when they are in jail. They learn to be better criminals, how to manipulate the legal system, and glorify the killing of law enforcement officers...all while we pay for their housing , meals, medical, dental, recreation, grievance procedures.etc. If I had a dollar for every time I heard a prisoner sing a song about killing the police I could of retired sooner. Yet there is more media focus on incidents where college students were pepper sprayed by the police. Poor babies...should of been tased if you ask me. JJ I was very sorry to hear about the officer in Brooklyn. God Bless.
  7. Moose, good topic. The election process has always been a pet peeve of mine and should be banned. Period!! Unfotunately the laws are written that allow fire companies to establish the qualifications. How I vote is simple. You have to ask yourself do you trust this person with your life or those of your kids? If you have any doubt....than you have answered your question. There are volunteer departments in other parts of the country like Minnesota and Florida that do not elect thier officers. They are appointed positions with qualifications.
  8. Bull!! People should be able to live where they want.
  9. Funny how the anti-cop media only showed the part where they police the studentsn not where they surrounded the cops. These students are lucky they only were sprayed. I feel the cops showed restraint and did thier jobs professionally. The protestors were given ample warning and time to disperse.
  10. May he rest in peace
  11. It is an assault on police officers but if it is any consolation he will spend the rest of his life in a 6x9 cell eating food that I wouldn't give my dog, dodging roaches and other rhodents that will crawl in his ear while he is sleeping on his 4 inch mattress in a filthy atmosphere he deserves to be in.
  12. Look harder :) ...all kidding a side, in reading some of the posts about the election process like anything else if you see something wrong get involved and become part of the solution. I did and am glad I did. Remember nothing happens overnight.
  13. I am doing some research and need some info. How are volunteer depts classifying thier firefighters..interior, exterior, etc...thanks
  14. Very touching story...
  15. May she rest in peace.
  16. I am not sure as to the enforcement powers of REMSCO either however I would think if it is written in thier policy shouldn't it be followed like any other standard?
  17. Barry while I understand why the law is written the way it is I don't feel it should preclude volunteer departments from appointing a qualified MTO' if a department wishes to step up thier training. If anything you would have someone with the criteria to conduct the training. On another note maybe if FASNY spent more time and effort lobbying to change that law as I requested to them years ago than fighting the cops having blue lights on the back of thier cars we wouldn't be having this discussion.
  18. It was reported in Lohud that Gov Cuomo wants to tap into the NYS pension fund to help finance the new Tappan Zee Bridge. Is this legal?
  19. Thank you all for the input....very disturbing to see the games they try and play up there with money that doesn't belong to them...I didn't drag myself into where I work for the last 24 years to have some lunatic decide he wants to build a bridge with the money we worked for..
