I've had mine broken and broke them back with the rest of them. Never took it personal, never was personal giving it back. Unfortunately today it is a different climate. People to quick to sue. Gotta be careful what you say or do.

Great topic. There is a class that addresses this and it is the Leadership and Administration class at the National Fire Academy in Maryland. It is a 40 hour program under the Volunteer Incentive Program. It covered budgets, administration, and basically most things you need to know to be an administrator. Not a replacement for a management or similiar degree but you get a basic understanding of managing a fire deprtment. The downside is not everyone can get down there to take the class and I am not sure if this type of training is offered in NY. Alot of what I learned as a chief and now a commissioner is simply reaching out and asking those who have been there. "I know many departments have Commisioners that handle these things, but shouldn't the Chief have the same knowledge?" Considering that a fire commissioner can be a lay person with no fire service background a chief could have more knowledge therefore it is imperative that the chief have some training in administrative issues.

My 2 cents for what it is worth...I was hired as an instructor there around 2000 when it was going through it's transistion and worked under 3 commissioners. Over the years progress was made and more instructors were being hired so more courses were available. More props, equipment, etc. We would tell the powers to be we need this and we need that. We got it. I can remember being told at an instructors meeting that the money is there. Today it is a different animal. Money is tight and the 9th floor in White Plains isn't dishing it out like it used to.

This is horrible. You send your kids to school to get an education but now you have to worry about them getting shot. And alot of these shootings occur in suburban schools. May God rest the souls of these students and also watch over those left behind.

I could not agree more. Pathetic and sad.

I wonder, are there any others out there that haven't been caught yet?

This is a tough situation for all involved. I believe Iran is a threat to both Isreal and to us but I also believe anything that is to happen to Isreal may impact the U.S. so I don't think we have a choice but to back Isreal however we lost thousands of Americans with two wars and I feel enough American blood has been shed on a region that has been a hot button for years but I do sense some political grandstanding down the road on this issue as we get closer to November. I truly hope peaceful resolutions can be accomplished. I often hear send in our troops or just nuke the region but that's easy to say if you don't have family members in the military risking thier lives. I feel we need to focus more on our own borders and stop the influx of illegal aliens and drugs into this country which is a war we seem to lose everyday. We also need to strengthen our economy because a weak economy will weaken us overall.

I totally agree. Lowering that flag is for those who served the people. I do pray that she rests in peace but lowering the flag is wrong.

Sounds to me these people simply need to get a life and not spend time on Facebook bashing another fire department.
