"respond to radio calls for nonviolent crimes" ...are they serious? Can any police officer on here tell me how many times you have responded to a non-violent crime that has turned violent? You need armed, sworn officers..period.

It's not always the kids. I am the parent of a college baseball player and after many years of watching my son play sports from little league up I have found that in many cases it is the parents who start many of the problems. They simply can not stand losing.

ATV I think you are contradicting yourself. How can you say you come on this site to seek other people's experience and knowledge yet claim to get mad because you feel some are writing it off. ( the incident in quesiton). I have read some comments from some highly experienced officers on this issue and I think it is safe to say they know what they are talking about. Unless I missed it I have yet to see what you would do if this was your job. What would you do?

I sincerly hope this proves to be a lesson. This wasn't a case of a young kid rather a father of 4 at the age of 43. Slow down...think about what you are doing. If it is a false alarm you didn't miss anything. If it is the "big one" chances are it will still be there when you get there but if you drive like an ***hole you put everyone at risk. I agree with Jack he got off easy not that more time would bring back the deceased but damn it people have to learn we are in the business of saving and protecting lives not taking them and destroying families including yours.

How about a test for people who are almost 50 and have green eyes!!! What a disgrace to the civil service system!

Would you consider an all volunteer Dept. that has a paid AMT/EMT on duty Mon-Fri 7am to 7pm BUT does not act as a firefighter in any way a combination Dept? The ambulance does respond to fire calls but the person acts only in an EMS role. Also this persons job title is AMT/EMT, not firehouseman as some places have. Question is do they work for a private company ( Empress, Transcare, WEMS) or are they being hired directly by the fire department's board of fire commissioners? Makes a difference.
