Well that would effect all the Districts in westchester both paid and volunteer correct? Are there any paid Depts that do not have Commisioners? I know there are some Volunteer that have Commisioners but they are not the funding agent still the town Board does. Westcheter 2000 called for some of this did it not?

I think having had been a Chief, myself I did not get a Chiefs car till I became the Chief, I needed the "Whoopie Lights" on my personel vehicle . I was given 100.00 per month by the DEPARTMENT not the District, for Gas. When I became Chief I signed a piece of paper that limited the use of the vehicle. Did I always follow? No I would stretch it. As I am sure all have done at one point or another. Do I feel it should be 4hrs away on a hunting trip ? NO. I have a place I go hunting 4 hrs away , we donated 2000 feet of 3" Hose to them . MY Father ( EX Chief) Myself Chief at the time and two other Members took it to them in our own trucks, we where also hunting at the time. Listen we all know what we are getting into when we say we want to run for Chief or Asst. Chief it is time to grow up and be accoutable for what we do . Should it be parked in front or a " establishment" No it should not be. Since the vehicles are mostly owned by Districts they need to enforce the rules. The Department owned vehicles I am sure they give more leeway but we all get a bad name for it. I think the time has come to grow up and toe the line , set a standard and live by it, Way to many people watch what we do.

Well in an ideal world yes the MPO should be by Engine, but that does not and can not always be the case. Yes that is what multi color lights are for to be able to see what water level is on a pumper or tanker ideally they would be on all four sides of truck, but usually on back left and right side. There are quite a few paid and volly depts that we all know of that have to drive and than run the line, hopefully some day all that can change.

Seth this truck looks like what is used to pre treat roads with the salt brine before storms

Two Things I know for sure we use the pre treatment where I work, it is Liquid salt or salt water, we put it down on main roads only, myself and the crew I work with see No noticeable diffrence with it. It does not need to be Placared but you do have to have the Tanker endorsement to drive the truck to spread it. As well we do use the brine on all the in body sanders and that does make a diffrence when you use it , but there is an effective temp. that it works too. The funny part is that they say they want us to cut down on salt use but here we are putting down liquid salt (sodium) on the road hours before a snow event, if it turns to rain here we are washing it all into the resevoir system. The Liquid has to be down a few hours before the event they say it will last and be effective up to 24 hrs. I also read a letter and saw documents on the original liquid some towns where putting down and the State DEC made them stop because it was putting too many phosephtes into the water shed as well.

As stated the fire was started by people smoking crack and they got cold. We have no idea what the interior condition is like. Seth you ask the question about Moral Dilema, as so many older and wiser ,seasoned vets etc. Have said remember we did not create the situation the people we are going to help did. Yes it will bother me if there are 4 crack heads in there but I would not want to knock on anyones door to tell there wife and children Dad and Husband died in a booby trapped vacant building. To me there is No Reason to be in that building. If they are at the window or can be seen while venting, obviously we will get them but way too many unknowns for me. But you also said that the FD has done EXTENSIVE pre planning, I see red X on some of the plywood on ground level what is that about is it a point of entry that is known to be okay ?
