Andy do you meen, or I should say what I have seen done in my Department is people going from active to inactive status , and yes they can come in the building but you can not respond to, calls particapte in drills. We do not have a leave of absense status.

I PM him directions and told him we will accomadate him. Ed I tried it as Mill Street and mapquest brought me to it when I put in rte, 202 it brought me to 116 and 202 I got the Mill Street address from a officer of Somers FD so I will have to inform him of the proper street name.

The event is on, I hope the weather stations I have seen are correct in saying it is not supposed to start raining till after 3 pm, we are going to try and start before 12:00, I would postpone till Sunday but I see that weather is supposed be worse than saturday. Pray for the rain to start later,

I guess I will answer for myself, I live in Somers and I was Chief in Katonah, I work for the Town Of Bedford, I live 6 miles from Katonah, I responded from my House, to many calls, I did use it as a " Commuter car" for my 3 years as chief,I am allowed to leave work to go to calls. Did I do anything wrong? I followed the rules my District laid out and I signed when I was given the privelage of becoming the chief. Did I do errands in the car ? Yes I did Did I take the Children around Town and drop them off ? yes I did Did I go out with my wife in the Car ? yes I did I do not see anything wrong with what I did. I would not respond with the children in the car. I was out on my way to a dinner( FD Function) and did respond with my wife in the car. Maybe that is wrong The car sitting in a train station for the day while th eChief is in the city, maybe be ruffling some feathers but if the powers that be okay take it up with them. JIm Arena

I can say from experience, both mine and my father's me first, I had two accidents while I was chief, the 1st one was I had parked the car in a parking lot for a PIAA and a driver hit the car while it was parked, so there was no problem with that one as it was parked and i was not in it. The Second one I was driving to a call and a car did not yield after I was in the intersection, and hit me and sent me sideways into another car, this intersection was not controlled by a traffic light, and the cars on the main road did yield to me, anyways my point being I was not charged on my insurance and it does not show up on my driving record. I was driving a district owned vehicle for both of these. My father was at a call, and the chief , (father was Asst.) had some one else take his truck to a station with air bottles to refill for a structure fire. A driver did not yield she went on the shoulder around stopped cars and the collided. She sued my father, and she won, the district did not cover this his insurance paid. His rates did not go up and he was not dropped. I forgot to put in that it was his POV, and we were just about out of bottles, when they were sent. We know have 3 chiefs cars, with all the radios, and equipment we carry nowI do not even want to think what a electical night mare it could become for your POV. The District does have polices for driving area etc. As well I do not think it is too much to ask for the District to have the Chiefs cars, as long as they are used correctley.

Doc Where is this located in State Law? I have been reveiwing state law on and off for constitution and by laws of my department and i have not seen that anywhere. if you have it can you send it to me?
