Seth, Truck 6018 is correct we use them on all our dirt roads to maintain them , we use the Grader when we cut ditches and pull leaves and re widen roads. The scraper trucks are also used in winter to plow the snow off until roads are frozen then we can use plows instesd. I have also used them in the Winter to cut Ice of of roads, I have seen the state use them when they are plowing to cut the ice off of 684. They work great and are much faster then the grader. I work for Town of Bedford and I have a plow section that has some dirt roads to take care of,that is one of the trucks I use during the winter season.

Maybe one way would be to Merge Deptarments, they could start there, Seth how many Depts. in Greenburgh? How many paid? How many Volunter? How many pieces of Apparatus? How many Chiefs and Chiefs cars? I know in Town of Bedford all Volunter 9 Chiefs cars 2 Tankers 1 Ladder 3 Rescues 8 Engines 3 Mini attacks 2 Boats 1 Utility Truck 1 Ambulance FD owned 2 Air Cascades what could they lose and still provide the same service ? Merge into 1 FD Lose 6 Chiefs CArs off the bat there is a Nice savings right there. They could lose other things a swell but I am not the one to say what. Westchester 2000 Report was a start This a way to save Money, then start to structure it diffrently in the event they do eventuly go career. The save money part if you have 3 dept. in 1 Town and all chiefs where paid 9 chiefs salary and benefits, how many firefighters would that pay for if you could cut 6 out of the payroll? This is all hypotheticall of course since they do not have any. Just food for thought.

Seth usually a hopper full of sand or sppedy dry for traction controlled by a switch in cab. As Doc said also seen on Oil and Propane trucks still today.

Seth and ALS, some one has to be responsible to mark them and clear the snow away, where I am from Water Dept. Marks them with either the Flags or stakes with refloctors on them. The respective Fire Dist. pay to have snow cleared from them as well. We also after a snow storm send crews out to clear them as well. I would think and when I was chief we would check on hydrants and water sources often to make sure they where taken care of.So we could acces them and if dry hydrants where blocked etc. My question is who in your dist. take care of them? AS well I will ask about WMC and reservation who takes care of them and if they are not marked they should be. I do not think or feel you should have to remember where every hydrant is in your area when there are so many other things to remember and think about on the way to a call. Just my opinion and not trying to upset anyone.

First of all THANK YOU to everyone that donated money and Helmet Fronts, some are missing,as we do not have them all yet, so we will be reaching out to you. It is great to see this part completed, the muralist spent countless hours working on it, it is truly amazing the detail that was put into it. After spending countless hours walking around the Hospital, it was always the room I found myself drawn too. Know that it is Completed I could see myself and Jimmy being drawn there even more. It will bring joy and fun to a place that is not usually that, It was an Honor to have my son Jimmy,Imortalized in the Mural, It was hard to see it in one sense and it makes me proud all at the same time. As well it was great to meet and work with Jimmy and Chip on this project as well as the Foundation. John and Brenda Fareri did a fabulous job on pursuing and getting the Children's Hospital Built. The Tegtmeirs for starting that room off in Memory of a Husband and Father lost to soon. All in all I am proud of everything that was done and proud to be a Firefighter in this area.

Know that we are back on the subject, Going Mutual Aid is more what I was thinking about as well, if you are on standby out of your area, I can recall a few times Ossining being in Bedford Hills, on standby so it would have been hard for the host to be there to direct them too the hydrants. GPS units is really the way to go. As well the Flags seem to work out the best for us. Who services and paints your hydrants? For us the Water Dept. does all that except digging out the snow.
-
In some fire Districts around Westchester they were done, all hydrants were found with GPS transmitter and Marked, then on the runs you could be told the marks and plug them in to your GPS and it can take you there Espically great for Mutual Aid, just need everyone to do this and we could start using it. As well GPS units are not that expensive so it could be done. Could even be done as a Eagle Scout project for your town and Given to Dept. for County to log in.

We have in the Town Of Bedford flags on spring loaded mounts on top of Hydrant, as well as some of them are marked with posts, the spring loaded ones do not get in the way of hitting the hydrant and when you have to operate you can stand on flag or use other hand to hold it out of the way, all the hydranys are painted a reflective yellow, and the caps are color coded for gpm as well the dead ends are painted silver on top. We have not painted on the streets, the flags seem to work well for us. When we do get large amounts of snow the hydrants get dug out, very quickly.

Dear all, Okay, I am going to try and update all in one email. Hopefully, should not be too long. Through Just Imagine Making Miracles Yours, Inc., we will be putting together bags for parents that find themselves abruptly in the children's hospital. As I know, the last thing you are thinking about when you find yourself at the hospital is yourself, and then you find yourself with nothing with you. So, we will be putting together some items that a parent might need in an emergency. Below is a list of things we would like to put in the bags. This is also great for Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts to help with. We would like to put together 100 bags to start. This may become something that we need to do a few times a year. Any donation is welcome, and so many of you ask what you can do to help. Thank you so much, in advance, for all that you do to continue to help others. Gift cards: Telephone, gas & grocery Assorted toiletries: Toothbrush, toothpaste, lotion, soap, lip stuff, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner Snacks, Tea Bags, Hot Chocolate packets, Instant Coffee packets Pens Notebook or journal Voucher for meal in the cafeteria or a local take out place Magazine/word search, crossword books etc. Anything that you could think of that may help to get through days in the hospital. For the kids: The oncology unit can always use little toys for the children to pull out of the basket when getting there chemo treatments and blood drawn ($6.99 barbie, rubix cube, sleeve of matchbox cars, bead kits, lip gloss packs for older girls, and whatever else you think would be a fun little gift to pick from). Children in the hospital always love to get toys at this time of year, so whatever you want to give is welcomed. Thank you to everyone that has donated so far. I have been told that the children are loving the gifts. You never know who you may touch. If you want to get some of these items or toys for the children at the hospital, please feel free to drop them off at our home at 9 Buenta Way in Purdys. Casey goes to the hospital everyday and can bring them and I try to go once a week with anything I need to bring there. Or you can mail it to J.I.M.M.Y., Inc. PO Box 477, Purdys, NY 10578. Please call me if you have any questions (914) 277-8213. J.I.M.M.Y., Inc. is also listed with www.igive.com. If you would like to shop for yourself through there a percentage will go to J.I.M.M.Y., Inc. There are other places to help, as well. If interested, the Maria Fareri Children's Hospital Foundation, Making Headway, Make-a-Wish, Toys for Tots, The Pinwheel Project, Burn Care Everywhere. If you would like information about these organizations, as well, please let me know. If, you are interested in sending to the soldiers, which can always use our support, go to www.anysoldier.com. I hope did not give you too much to think about. This is the time of year that we all want to help and do something special. God above knows how much you did for our family, and how thankful we are to each and every one of you for all your love. Our family is now taking all that you have taught us and giving it back in every way that we can. We have a beautiful community with a lot of love - so please forward this to anyone that you think may want to help. Remember love is free. Happy Holiday to All, We Love You, Gina & Family

On 12/02/06 at approx. 1200 HRS in Buetis Deli Parking Bedford Hills NY , ( Not in the LOD) Car 2032 was struck by a Car while walking, pinning him next to a car, and if that was not bad enough, the driver panicked, missing the brake and hitting the gas instead, so he was pinned there as the car drove the whole length of the car. He was taken too the Hospital, he is banged and bruised up I spoke to him this afternoon, he sounds good, is very sore and bruised up. He is at home. If you get the chance give him a call, as I hear and get more I will post info.

Thank You for the site, and all the work you have done on it, I can say that it made things easier for me to get information out when I needed to. Keep up the good work.
-
Also what training have you had , or does your Dept. have guidelines for this? Remember this is NOT a popularity contest, you have a responsibility to the Public you serve, and the members you are commanding. You hopefully know which members you have that are reliable source of good information, which ones to stay clear of, and do not be afraid to ask for help.

Most of what is being said about air brakes in here is true but whether the air brake is drained, Emergency brake is on if the brakes are overheated they will not always hold the truck, hence as well someone saying the brakes are"soft" meaninng overheated, all of our trucks that I drive on FD side Air Horns are taken of Dry tank or sludge tank, once they drop below 80 psi they stop working as well.

Well there is no right or wrong answer on this subject, it ia a moral issue, if it was your mother or grandmother in that motorized scooter what would you do? what would it have taken for somebody to get off rig and move her along a lil faster? Air horns did not make scoter go faster, people power could have and maybe some people would be saying what a nice thing they did for her. This all comes down to training and respect for other human beings, we signed up to protect and serve, that is all part of it until some people grow up and see it that way this debate could go onforever. Also remember we are responding to a situation we did not create, but we need to get there to control it but we need to get there in 1 piece, what would have happened if that lady stopped moving because she had a heart attack? that rig would have been tied up there waitng for EMS and then what did they gain?
