Katonah carries 3 0r 4 Chain saws of diffrent size, plus the cutters edge and K12, there are some members that you can trust to cut up trees, but I would not let to many do it. I have witnessed to many people say they know what they are doing and then get smashed in the face or have saw jammed up because they know it all, when those members are around we would let them go to town on the trees but the rest is left to Highway Dept. and Elec. Company. But as you have posted ,Seth, as long as I can remember back , we have not had an issue, where we needed to use them , we have been fortunate so far and if it ever was a issue the highway has been there with saws and machines to move what we needed. As well there are quite a few members that are Highway, Water, Recreation plus own or work for tree service and Landscapers.

We use 2 Engines, 1 Rescue, Utility if needed, sometimes Tanker instead of 2nd Engine. We use our Rescue as a Road Block, Light Mast if at Night, we consider our Rescue for our Manpower life and safety. Never know what will happen out there.

In our Response area if it is an MVA with injuries ALS is dispatched when that is done they dispatch the FD, we do not run an Ambulance done by a seperate agency, if a Chief gets there and we are not needed he will divert and or cancel us, if we beat him there we will do it. Are the agency's your dealing with Fd and Ambulance together?

Maybe it would be duplication of services but, for the storm this time National Guard was prepared, what about the times they are not? Would it really be that bad too have some that are right there? The life or Family it could save may be yours. There is plenty of room for improvement,

f) Vehicle marking and lighting. Each vehicle required under §139.317 shall -- (1) Have a flashing or rotating beacon; and (2) Be painted or marked in colors to enhance contrast with the background environment and optimize daytime and nighttime visibility and identification. (g) FAA Advisory Circulars in the 150 series contain standards for painting, marking and lighting vehicles used on airports which are acceptable to the Administrator. By reading this section from other post it does not say they have to be Lime.

Looks Great Seth, Chris Creations Woodworking holds up well to the test of time. Everything he built here at the Purdys EMHE site is standing up well. If it can survive my house it can withstand just about anything.

There is a spreader but it dumps right behind the drivers seat. has the chain in body and pulls toward front , instead of pulling to back. So basically you are able to drive on the material you are spreading. We have trucks similar to this at Town of Bedford Highway as well.

Dear All, It is hard to believe that it is almost a year since we were visited by Extreme Makeover. We have adapted well to our new home and the love contained in these walls is indescribable. Every day we wake up and realize how blessed we are. Now, we may have a chance to pay it forward. There is a possibility that the team may be doing a project in our area once again. Our family is very excited about this possibility, and can't wait to possibly give back to our community. So, we would like to invite you to a planning meeting on Saturday, March 17, at 11:30 am. I will send the place of the meeting as soon as I get the information. Volunteers that will be needed: Sign-in Food, coffee, etc. Clean-up All Trades - Excavators, Trucking, Laborers, Masonry, Plumbing, Heating, Carpentry, Electricians, Painters, Drywall, Landscaping. All materials needed as well. Whatever you may be able to contribute will be appreciated. If this build happens, it will be March 22 through March 28 with the heaviest amount of construction over 23, 24, 25, 26. Let's hope they come to our area once again. Coming to NY for the all fifty states tour, how exciting, again. Please pass this along to anyone that may be interested in volunteering. Love and God Bless, Gina Meeting Saturday at 1130

ABC's 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition' goes to camp in Kent By MICHAEL RISINIT THE JOURNAL NEWS (Original publication: March 24, 2007) KENT — A touch of Hollywood knocked down an old laundry building yesterday at the Clearpool Education Center. The destruction and upcoming rebuilding, courtesy of ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," will replace the dilapidated green structure with a new recreation center. The work - performed by the same Long Island company that redid a Somers home last year for the show - will help a single mom and her Albany-area family, future campers and the local community. "It's going to benefit not just the kids from (Camp Heartland). It's a building that will serve a much broader spectrum," Clearpool Executive Director Bob Behr said yesterday as volunteers and construction workers swirled around the 350-acre campus. Founded in 1901, Clearpool is an environmental education camp for disadvantaged children. The Kent facility will rent space this summer to Camp Heartland, a Minnesota-based nonprofit group that organizes summer programs for children and families affected by HIV and AIDS. Colonie, N.Y., resident Debbie Oatman, 43, has three adopted sons, two of whom are HIV-positive and have other health problems. A biological son, her youngest, and the third adopted brother have no special needs. The four range from 9 to 20 years old. Behr said some of the brothers have attended Heartland's Minnesota camp. But the 15-year-old, he said, was afraid to fly. This summer, the family will make the two-hour drive to Kent. "Now, he finally gets this opportunity to go to camp for the first time in his life," Behr said. The popular TV program is also redoing Oatman's home. The upstate-downstate project will air in May as the season finale. Alure, the home-improvement company that is building the recreation center, began moving equipment onto the site Thursday. By yesterday, three colors dominated the landscape - the blue of the show's T-shirts donned by anyone working on the project, the brown of mud, and the white of everyone's hard hat. Wearing both a T-shirt and a hard hat was James Arena of Somers. Arena, his wife, Gina, and their six daughters lost their 6-year-old son and brother, Jimmy, to a brain tumor in September 2005. "Extreme Makeover" rebuilt their home in April, both to lift their spirits and to remember Jimmy. Arena said there was never a question about he and his wife volunteering at the Kent site, along with their six daughters and 8-month-old son, Michael. During the Somers project, Alure built a nursery for the then-expecting Gina Arena. She spent Thursday cooking ravioli, meatballs and sausages for the workers. "There's no reason not to be here," James Arena said. "Pay it forward." Yesterday slipped by while the production crew prepared for the show's trademark scene, known as "Braveheart." That's when host Ty Pennington and the project's builder, in this case Alure President Sal Ferro, lead a cheering crowd of workers onto the site. At Clearpool, that was a fast-paced walk down a hill near the frozen Clearpool Lake. After a break for lunch, two excavators pulled up to the wooden building. A busted plastic window fronted the structure and broken steps led to two shabby screen doors. The excavators bit into the roof and ripped away dripping mouthfuls of shingles, insulation, plywood and two-by-fours. The action stopped periodically as executive producer Denise Cramsey set up Pennington's walk through the rubble and between the rumbling machines. Ferro watched as his troops began demolishing the building. Cinder blocks for a new foundation were piled nearby, and a cement truck would eventually be waiting at the bottom of the camp's long driveway. Earlier, outside the dining hall, he said he was eager to get to work. "It's about giving back to the community and showing goodwill - and our industry in a good light," he said. I can not speak for where you are Seth But I can speak for Bedford,We have 13 6 wheel dump Trucks that both Sand and Plow, we have no trucks with wings, out of those 13 trucks, 5 have under scrappers that we use on dirt roads,we use a salt sand mix,and a Liquid Calium we can spray as we are appling sand and salt to road.We plow and sand all County roads , as well we do approx. half of state roads in town,we sand all roads in start of storm, if we have to plow than we do we do not always sand every time we scrape roads down, driver discretion on that , when storm is over we do sand everything again, the storm we just had though I know we used a lot more material then usual, as soon as we plowed it off sleet covered road and looked like it was not touched. As well as large trucks we have approx. 12 small pickups and utility trucks we plow with, also have 3 trucks with small 3 yd sanders in them. We usaually have 1 Large truck and 1 small truck teamed up together. Are theory is Main Roads first and then secondary roads, but we do not sacrifice one for the other, all roads are done, we save the turnarounds for last, meaning we open them but we push them back after end of storm. I also know that the more roads the towns plow and sand that belong to the state, the less drivers and trucks they are issued in there yards, the state pays low rates to towns , they give contracts to towns but if you want to get out they need 2 years notice to get trucks and drivers to cover, what you used to do for them. Also remember they work shifts, usually splitting crews in half, so that gives them less manpower on the roads then local Highway and DPW crews.
-
Doc you are correct, we did them , district pays for them. Should not be our responsibility to pay for them.
-
To join you need a permission slip or letter from chief , as of right know no training requirements, they will tell you what you need. They are getting training classes going.etc.
-
tbendick, Thank you , The systems we installed where full street pressure, with no PRV only Dual Check Valves. AS well the Tie ins For FD use.
-
I have a question, isn't the standpipe, you are talking about the same one we are supposed to use and tie a engine into feed? When Iwas doing commercial work we installed the boxes with hoses in them , a check vave on the standpipe, with the fittings for FD to tie into. So if that is what we are talking about why do away with them? As well maybe it is time for a state code update to have them inspected and changed every couple of years.

Very Nice I like the layout, Merry Christmas, be safe.

The Highway Dept. was going to use it to Pretreat the Main Roads with a Salt, Calcium Mixture in the Winter and All dirt roads in the Summer with Brine mixture for Dust Control. The Cost to Convert Tank to be able to do this, and other maintence that truck needed they decided not to do it.
