is Verplanck getting a new one ???
-
I am not speaking for the Chief, but maybe the operators / handlers of the " dog " ( what ever it might be ), stated that the victem did indeed go into the the water and that was for sure... yes, they are a GREAT, resource, but you have to assume they are not 100%.. you have to keep an open mind and try ever option...
-
although I think this is also BS... and silly, you have to always look at it threw someone else's stand point... SECURITY !!! maybe by taking these picture, you might be exposing some aspects of their structure which is important to maintaining thier systems.. just like taking photos of trains.... who really knows ?? its said that is where we are getting to.

I did not know firefighter Anthony Ruggiero, but from talking with many people who did know him, he was a great guy.. I did know John Kelly, but not as a firefighter or fellow worker, I knew him from school trips he took with his daughter, from stopping by my house, in route to get his daughter, just to chat and find out what is " new " in Croton, I knew him from his signature pickup trucks, and as the guy with the Christmas tree in the cargo bed during December... From these brief encounters, I saw a guy who LOVED his daughter and did everything he could for her.. and I guy who loved to help out others ... To the friends, families, Members of the Tarrytown Fire Department and those who knew these men, we lost two great guys, but they will never be forgotten... Rest in Peace guys... it appears to be rather top heavy... and with a narrow wheel base, make it " roll over " friendly, like the older 70's CJ Jeeps...
-
with that big of a rig, compared to the old one, does this mean an expanded menu ???
-
Chief; you know my opinion.... I wear my bunkers when driving the rig... But with the new bail out bags, it just ain't pretty... so I have gone the route of keeping the bailout bag in my gear locker, and if I am driving I bring it with me and store it under my seat... if for some reason I am required to do interior work, I will have my bail out bag... bottom line here, that rope may save my life some day, but it can not do that at the firehouse... remember I am one of the few guys that still have our original bail out bag, and still used it. When I first started driving the rigs, I hated the rubber boots, and felt like I had no control over my feet and the pedals... but with the new boots, it is really like wearing work boots, so I do prefer wearing them... When driving my tanker, I am at the pond site, dumping, then off to the fill site, and back again.... so to not wear then until I am on the scene makes no sense... I feel it should be what ever make you feel safer... for me that's to wear them...

Thank you billfitz and bnechis for insight on how things work.. I can now see, where having a spare rig is needed, and the reasoning behind it... I just always assumed that it would be an older rig that would be slipped into the easier life. ( not being used everyday and called up when needed )

Actually, if you look back and little bit prior to my question, it was chris192 who brought up the whole volunteer issue...I fell stupid to asking an honest question. that can be debatable.. its your opinion... This may be my problem here, I am from a small village, who does not have the funds for a " full stocked " spare rig... a large city may have that luxuary, but it is out of my understanding.... when our engine goes out from PM, well remove all the special and needed equipment... Croton does not have a "squad ", but my understanding, the squad is a well equipped engine, with the tools and equipment to handle main tasks, right ? so why not just use a " spare engine " from the motor pool... is it worth tax dollars to have a 4 year old rig as a spare ?, and have both rigs fully stocked ?? with one sitting around waiting to be used... may be , but I would have a hard time selling it to my village... if they were planning on adding a squad to the fleet then it makes sense... No, I have never seen the current squad 11, but I am sure it is loaded up and laid out with very tool they need, and so they should have. You need to provide the guys who are doing the job with everything they need to get the job done.... but do they need 2 ? All I wanted to know, is why do you really need to replace a 4 year old rig?? ...
-
I still do not undertsand why the 2006 Squad 11 had to replaced after 4 years of service ??? was there problems with it ??? I understand the normal FDNY apparatus life is 10 years. So while we are complaining about another FD purchasing a rig for 600 K, and has a design life of 20 + years, I am sure the 300 K ( ? ) spent on the old Squad 11 for 4 years, was not invested well...

Good looking ladder... One question, there appears to be NO chevrons on the rear.... were they being added afterwards or what ??? I am not a big fan of them, but being on a truck committe now, we were told a percentage of the rear needs to be covered with them ??
-
ok, in pictures # 1 & 2.... what are the chrome " horns " ???
-
hey dashield; that idiot here, the red circle you have is that their logo you speak of ??? I looked through the attached link and was a bit confused, and unsure.... I for one like the idea of the actual " Haverstraw logo " everyone knows what that is suggesting, and warns me that the structure in question has trusses in them.... so I would figure its every where.... floors and roof....
-
in picture # 2, the roof looks like there is some damage... was a vent hole cut there ? was this a burn through point ? it appears the structure burned through and started causing a collapse. What were the structural members ? Great stop !!
-
so it was not a structure fire ???
-
Hey, its been all over the news, does anyone have any details of this ? Did the wall collapse from water leakage from above over years ? poor workmenship ? anyone from Mt. Vernon have any insight ?

I for one think the 60 Control idea would not be so beneficial. YES, there are many good dispatchers at down there, but the coin flips both ways and there are others that are not... How many of them really know of the job and the true workings of what is being asked ? I have heard stories of new dispatchers having to be told the difference between apparatus types. Many have never done any fire fighting... The last thing I would want is to ask a Coordinator for more tankers, and an oil truck shows up... Sorry for those dispatchers that really know the true inside and out of fire fighting, ( and its not about you )but you know there are others, where this is true. The Field Comm unit ??? nice but what is the down time for that thing to be up and running ? 30 minutes ??? is when " Most of the Mutual Aid " is called in, unless its a large scale scene, and then the Field unit would be called in anyway ... I am not a Chief, but I would pefer the coordinator at my command post, and we can do a face to face or see the command board, instead of inside a Field Comm Unit... more un needed radion chatter... I have walked around it and inside the Field Comm Unit, there is allot to it... I am sure its not a 1 " man " job. So now you would need a 2 " man " crew on each shift to cover the unit ... Of course, as " chris " can atest to, I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT RADIOS .... but I am sure its not that easy... Maybe the " Coordinator " position is not the best system, but in my neck of the world, it seems to work well...

I saw this engine during our recent standby down in Eastchester, and the pictures do not do it justice... It is a great looking rig, I wish the best to those who use it...
-
what is the triangle frame for on the front ?? looks lke a tow hitch for a trailer..
-
WOW, I really hope this is NOT what it seems... that would be really bad, and unthinkable...
-
wow dude, totally cruel.... of course he will be able to, there are 2 steps... sorry Jodi.....lol
-
Nice pictures, really shows how fast things can get worse..... seeing how this is a " Learning site " and since I do not have the ( truck company experience ), Ladder # 2 appears to be totally wasted in this position. I am asking the more experiened truck guys here, should the Ladder of been place more forward and towards the center of the road... I am not busting balls or try to make anyone look bad, just want to know more.. In Croton we are trying to think more of leaving room for our ladder, so this is the reason for my questioning.....
-
BUT!!!, he can only wear it in Millwood...
-
WOW, totally my bad... I am sorry guys... I guess I missed it the first time around.... but the White Castle Party bus, If not for the wedding, I am thinking Bacholar Party Moblie....
