  1. thanks E100 - I never knew that, good to know...
  2. Hmmmmm… if I was the first in engine officer… I would be looking for a hydrant to grab on the way in to that street… being the circle at the end, hopefully they were design at the main turn off…. Updates from neighbors and PD units, would be a clue of heavy fire load… plus the house being on a hill up, the smoke will be seen from a distance… so I would grab my own water source on the way in and leave 1 FF with the hydrant…. Upon positioning the rig, the second FF would assist the driver with connecting to the supply hose and start raising and positioning the deck gun… as soon as the driver has the pump ready, we would dump the 750 – 1000 gallons into the garage, to knock down the amount of fire load and heat…. “ I “ would start doing a quick look around and interview anyone with knowledge… Upon an established water supply, the 2 FF’s and my self would set up to take a 1 ¾ to the front door, and if conditions of the fire in the garage and roof structure area seem lower, would start entry… ( I would not make entry, because of the heavy fire load, until I had a secure water source and would not wait for the 2nd engine to establish this, the fire is too advance ) At this point the second engine should be on the seen, and they can Fast “ our “ line and pull a second line… Ladder can start their work… ( but seeing the fire coming out of the roof vent on the B side, it has the attic, so a blitz knockdown of the garage might produce enough steam to darken down allot of fire, even in the attic, as the steam would rise. ) ** roof truss – I would assume they are there …. ** floor trusses - ?? maybe not, I am going to say, slab on grade… the bottom of the doors look to low to the ground… My ideas….. ready ... aim ... fire...
  3. thanks, if anyone has pictures of the compartment layouts, I ( we ) would love to see them...
  4. in the picture of the rear of the rescue, the compartment above the " 5 " , what is in there and what is it for ??? is it a samll compartment or long ? great looking over all...
  5. The long lay was because of water main issues' ( not 100% but I thought I heard of a break )... O town did a great job keeping the water coming.... I know at one point my Chief ( 2082/Remember585 ) mentioned that they may ask E119 to lay in from South Highland( as it was parked on the scene as FAST ) and being the driver that day, would of sucked to pick up out 1000 ft of 5 inch... Thanks for handling that OFD !!!
  6. OK, I am offically scared.... The good people of New Rochelle should double lock their doors.... what comes next ? you guys signing a lumberjack song ??
  7. Great job NYPD... having worked above Camp Smith and across from West Point, where do all the Military helicopters come from ?? While working in Cold Spring, Army helo's were always around, so where were they for this need ? Where are they based out of....
  8. This is also the call I am referring too
  9. yeah, there to... the recent call was not Northern Westchester, but in Putnam County.... try finding anything in Putn am Valley.... alot of small back roads which goes on for ever ... did 2001 give directions ?? maybe ?? whats the big deal? ( I have heard many agencies give directions to units ) I was in the back of R77 and we got to the job with out a problem... and yes the GPS in the cab was on and working... as for the " Hawthrone call " if it was the TRT call, it was allot colder then summer, because I was complaining about how thin the gear was, as I was freezing... maybe it was late winter ? Again, I was in the back of the rig, but from what I was told we were redirected to the scene by the IC... so did the rig go down the street and come back maybe ? but there are better reasons then they were lost... You can go to any Dept, and see the same thing... PD, FD or EMS.. I remember plenty of times responding to calls in CFD, and making a wrong turn or not going the way the IC wants and having to " recalculate "... the King's college fire - E 119 responded to one gate of the complex, as ordered, only to turn around and head out to another entrance, back down the same road we just went code 1 to... so lets not assume they are clueless, until you know the full story..
  10. a question to the NRFD guys and anyone with knowledge of this structure.. having worked on plenty of churches, this one in particular, was it a full Cathedral ceiling, or did it have a hanging wood structured ceiling? Then did it have any fire suppression systems ? it always shocks me when you see a heavy timber roof structure and NO means of trying to put it out from within ( either a dry or wet pipe system )... one would think the owners would invest in something to protect the history of their church..
  11. can you let us know what town this was in ??? and something more then end of summer? your making a claim with no real facts, sounds more like hear say... care to back this up ?
  12. Taking them off ??? well the streets of Croton look pretty good, and yet, the Officers of my company have all agreed to leave them on for another day, as we have many long driveways and side streets, and its always our luck... Oh look the driveway was NOT PLOWED !! M'ave - I can not speak for the poster, but I believe the " Tossing a chain " was referred to a cross link and not the whole chain... ( if that was what you were suggesting ) I have never seen that happen, but have seen many cross links break... and I am sure so does FDNY... unless they are getting all the good chain sets...
  13. I agree 100 % with chains.... on spots are a joke... we actually deleted them from the specs for our next tanker... we take the time and put them on both of our rigs at WECO... well worth it... DON'T LEAVE HOME WITH OUT THEM...
  14. I have never been there, and its hard to really tell from the pictures, but ? what was the structure ? steel or wood ? is the siding T 1 11 or metal??
  15. so ??? do we know what was in the tank ? was it from a past job? was it back there for weight.. you never know what guys do with their trucks now a days...
  16. I love picture # 7... the FF looks as if he was photoshopped in... "Guys I'm OK , don't cut my roof.. " lol, great photos...
  17. WOW, onlocation seems to be very much like this guy I know.... still waiting, ?? what ??? 5 years for a great photo.... no names here, but his initials are J T !!! lol
  18. One of the things I think about is the location of the call and just how deep the snow is... If its a snow storm of 10 + inches, I will normally jump in our tanker to respond with that, even in our Village areas with hydrants... This way we have 3000 gallons on hand in case the hydrant is buried or un able to locate one...
  19. I am not a NYC " go'er " and spend little time down there. I am sure the heavy snow and cars all over the place were part of the blame. I know I saw it here in Croton, people's cars were everywhere and they were not moving fast to get them out of the way. BUT I am sure there is a good bit of truth to some of the claims, and not towards every worker... CBS news tells the story of a 10 man crew hanging out in a Dunkin Donuts for hours, things don't look to good for their side..
  20. "" Like dude, ??? Mom and Dad have people for that !! "" All joking aside, I agree with you. There are allot on common sense stuff, that most of the younger generations are lacking... I can't tell you how many young guys I have hired that don't know how to hold and use a hammer... BUT, they are really good at electronics.
  21. I'll agree with you Barry, but I think a big issue with older rigs, is that the drivers are not used to operating older vehicles... We all get spoiled with the new features, and we tend to push the package.. We forget the truck is not " AS SAFE " to operate at speeds as the newer ones....and many assume they are still driving their own cars... M Most of the older trucks I have driven, I tend to go much slower... maybe I do not trust the truck, or I respect its limits... When I first learned to drive, EVERYONE learned on a standard transmission, I spent days going from one end of our property to the other learning the clutch.. how many younger guys actually know how to work a clutch ? Yes, wear and tear is an issue, but I believe the driver is the biggest issue...
  22. I was just going to question the 2010 thing, you bet me.... aaaaaaaaaa
  23. or Barry, maybe it should be IT'S GOOD TO BE THE FITZ !!!
  24. Great pictures, thanks for making us hate staying in NY...
