  3. what do you think top speed was on that bad boy ?
  4. whats the average life of a FDNY rig ??? or the design life ?
  5. plus look at the outer chimney vertical line and the house front corner vertical line, it appears the distance from these 2 points, from the bottom then again looking at the top, is showing tyhe chimney is leaning out ward..... maybe its the camera angle, but thats what I see...
  6. wait wait, did the wall collapse ?? or did the Backdraft in the attic blow out the brick chimney ???? from what I saw it looks as if the chimney was blown out and down... masonry chimneys are supposed to be free standing structures, and being on the outside of the structure, it would explain why it fell down.... plus if the footer for the chimney settled outward over the years, leaning just a bit, it would not take much force to get it moving... it would also explain why the flames are seen going up and down the interior of the chimney ?? my thoughts...
  7. of a second FIRECHIEF, you had me confused ??? I thought my FD was hidding something from me...
  8. actions speak for them selves...., so it would be a NO !!
  9. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa !!!! what a sad way to go....
  10. I know several White Plains building owners who are sick in tried of the taxing.... the Towns and City's are making it to the point were its a pain to own anything... What I want to know is this... a Fire Inspection is performed on building XYZ by the White Plains FD... the building owner then pays for the tax..... Does the WPFD supply the Owner of XYZ with an inspection Document ? a written form which states on this date the builidning was inspected, we checked this, this, this and and these, and in " OUR PROFESSIONAL " opinion everything is up to code ( and I say Professional because they are charging for the inspection, not because they are a career dept. ).... Do the building owners get a written document which they can supply to their insurance company, and one day may come back to haunt the WPFD ? " well the fire dept just inspected the building, so why did it burn down ??? " I think its a really bad idea, and can possibly open a can of worms...
  11. now those were nice Macks.... my first fire truck ( driving ) was the 1962 Mack Croton had.... standard transmission with a gas engine.... that baby could handle.... the sound of the clutch peddle hitting the steel diamond plate floor was great may have to get one...
  12. drive through Croton with a blue light on a fire or EMS vehicle, and it will get ticketed...
  13. I am confused, is it the City who has cut them from responding or the fire chief ?
  14. come on now, just becasue JT took pictures, does not mean he will share them... sorry JT !!! find my brass diving helmet
  15. can someone please explain this more.... I have never heard of it and want to know more... So there are 2 air brake buttons on the rig, do they both do the same thing ? ( I assume they do, I know it sounds really stupid of me ... ) but I am not sure I want the ablitity to stop the rig, I am in control of, in reach of another firefighter ( the officer ).... does it work in the same capacity as the drivers ??? I can see coming to an intersection, and seeing the movement of the vehicles ahead and around you, and plotting your path through traffic, mean while the officer, with a head set on, ( getting updates, replying on the radio, and going over procedures in their head ) looks up, from something he is doing below the windshield, and sees a car and panics and hits the button and stops the rig, I have never pulled the air brake while doing 25 mph, so I do not know how it will handle - who knows what happens then..... yes this is a crazy, but it can happen... I know when I am the guy in control of the apparatus, I want full control... so what are the pro reasons for it ?
  16. just saw footage on HDL news of the helicopter landing on the rock cropping.... not sure who had bigger balls, ??? the pilot or the guys standing just below the ledge he set it down on.... there was not allot of room...
  17. this will never work... PD units will be patroling the water ways, and when a FD related boat call comes in, what PD officer is going to say " oooh we need to get to shore for the FD to use it " , no.... he or she, will smartly head to the incident to help out... if the PD has units scheduled for the boat, then the FD does not have a chance get it... its simple... they lost their boat !!
  18. we got allot of heavy rain in Croton, as E119 was responding to a lightning strike, making a turn up into a street, I could feel the front tires " FLOATING " up the new creek...
  19. is there a reason why we may need to do this, where a engine couldn't ??? or it just for discussion sake...
  20. thanks, that cleared that up..
