hmmmmm I guess I miss the notices about the Training in Yonkers and Mt Vernon... anyone else see them ? I think the bottom line should be simple, the railroads need to reach out, and become more proactive in training those who many be effected by one of their incidents...

great one wrathery !!!

Good points Barry, lets face it, its only am matter of time before NFPA or OSHA requires the pump operator on a Top mount pumber to be harnessed in while climbing up and while working the pump from above...
-
I vote for stopping Parades !!! I hate them, and would rather spend the hours spent, pulling everything off the engine, cleaning them, testing them and making sure everything is perfect - and instead spend that time training... Hands on...
-
I have to agree with my Chief here, as I have been here longer then he has, but Training from Metro has been limited, and I have been very Active in Croton since 1983...

this lies with the City .... " going to bed " with the Contractor giving them so many " perks " to build these giant throphies to themselves, which in the end, do nothing for the people who lived in the City before they can to Build... So your city sold you out .... ( nothing personal ) I am not sure, but isn't the builder of that new " Mini City " in Yonkers, passing off some funds to better the fire service in this area.... Which should be the right thing... Other depts have gotten Tower ladders and engines for development...

I think the paint job on the old one is better.... Very nice fire engine, good luck with it.... Right now Croton is looking into a new Tanker, if someone from Millbrook is on here, can you possible send me the Specs.... and maybe a drawing ? any and all information is very usefull... I would love to stop by some day and CHECK it out !!! Road Trip Chris and R585 ???

Yes, I think it would be wise to start looking into something like this happening and setting up a game plan ( if you will ) BUT why does the County have to set this up and why does it fall in the hands of the Dept's who has tracks in it ?? Yes, they may have to one day deal with this type of headache, but I really think the cure should start with the Railroads.... Metro North and Amtrack should spear head this and take the bull by the horns and start contacting the Dept's around their tracks and work with them.... ( when a developer wants to build something really big, they usually offer something to the FD's to help deal with a new " issue ", so that it does not have to be dealt with by the tax payers ) and then set up special training with RR officials who know this the best and work on procedures which will need to be followed... They should tell us what equipment have, which can assist us in an incident ( much like Con Ed has been doing ).... I have trouble with being taxed for MTA useage, and for having one of their largest repair shops in my district ( which we protect and serve with no funds coming to our " Services " ) and now " we " ( taxpayers ) have to foot the bill for training, equipment, etc... for a problem which could happen with their lines and trains !! I thinks its time for them to step up to the plate, and start teaching us ( I took Stiloskis heavy truck class, and really learned allot there ) what is the best way to stablized a train, cut into a train, and learn what NOT to do...They should show us just how long it would be before they can get an Emergency Crew there.... They have plenty of old trains which just get cut up, so use them like we train with cars and trucks and help us get better at something which could happen... I for one, as well many guys from Croton would jump at that type of training... Then once they are " ALL ABOARD !! ", then start a planning session and get a real plan in place... So calling Spanky the day off, its helpful, but it would be best to preplan and call Spanky NOW !!! tell him they need to train us... they need to get things planned out and ready for they day we wish never happens...

I hope the new owners will share some pictures of the Condo when its in service... its always nice to see how others make it work for them...

I believe you are 100% right.... I know with my construction company, you may not be covered by the company's insurance if your using your personal power tools... ( when it comes to insurance company's, they only think bottom line, and if they can find a way to avoid paying they will take it. )I remember reading a monthly report ( from a NYS safety group ) were a carpenter was using his personal circular saw, which had the safety wedged open and it kicked back and cut the workers leg... The insurance company wanted records of the saw, and who the owner was, and they found out it did not belong to the company, they did not approve the payments So make sure if your purchasing your own " anything ", your Department will accept it and you will be covered by the Dept.'s insurance if something goes wrong...

According to me, yes one.... but my Chief will always tell me to wait for a co pilot... BUCK UP ??? is this a term that they use in the rest of the USA ??? I am not sure how this is done ..... hahaha

M'ave - I am not a truck guys, so clueless is my middle name here, these " Jacks " are the power operated ? and do they have the strength to lift the ladder ?
-
or does anyone have any production pictures.... I have to say when I was at the Seagrave plant looking at our E119, it was the greatest thing... I learned so much by walking through, talking with the guys building the rigs and seeing just what they can do... I know I could of spent days there...
-
oooohhh, so were the responding to a call ? If so they are truly luckly... from the picture it appears they were just making the left turn and miss judged the street...
-
so,...... is there any information out to how or why this happen ??? was it from all of the crazy drivers do there, cutting off the rig ? was it driver error ?
-
Nice looking rig.... maybe we can see pictures of the compartments one day.... and no hose will fall off that..

Maybe my Chief is lying to us, but in Croton there is always complaints about using foam for drills... The only time *83 let us play with it, was when it was OLD ( past the design life ).... So is it cheaper in Bressels ? I understand what they are trying to say, but to waste all that foam ( sure looked like allot of foam ), was a big mistake... If I was on the Town ( or City ) board, I would be looking for someone to cover that cost...and the clean up fees... That being the FF's and not the Town's people...
-
OK, here's a question... these FF were all on duty and working, sitting around the firehouse right ? were other FF's call in ( back fill ) for these 50 + guys? If no one was called in and no overtime had to be issued, there was really no cost involved. The helicopter ( knowing nothing about what they do everyday, or the hours a day they fly ) but its not like a indendant contractor was call in, so the cost was really nothing more then fuel, which should be absorbed with daily runs... I am only guessing here. So there was no really extra cost to the City, if all above is true.... and yes, it can go down as a training exercise, what better real life training is that... do everything safely and double check all, no rushing around...granted it is not in totally controled conditions, but in the real world, nothing is... Bottom line is this, taxpayers pay for the salaries and assume if help is needed, it will come, even if is for a dog... hell, I once spent $ 4 k for 2 days trying to save my 3 year old German Shephard who was sick. Pets become a family member, and the value of them is priceless to us, many would risk their own lives for... My hats off the these guys for doing that, they are real stand up guys, and if I lived there, I would be very proud of my Fire Department !!
