Cross Posting from EMTBravoNewEngland.COm Original post by SOlsonBFDL14 LINK: http://emtbravonewengland.com/index.php?topic=233.0 POST: On Tuesday February 20 at approximately 2030hrs, Box 14-221 was transmitted for a reported fire at the South End Tennant Housing, 400 Massachusetts Ave. in the South End. Engines 22, 7 & 33 along with Ladder 15, Tower Ladder 17, Rescue 1, District 4 Chief & Division 1 Deputy Chief were assigned. While Ladder 15 was raising the aerial on their 2004 Pierce 105' Rearmount truck, the last fly section suffered a catastrophic failure & caved in upon itself, bending the stick significantly. A crang from Shaughnessey Crane was eventually dispatched to secure the stick so that it could be lowered to the bed. Two engineers from Pierce Fire Apparatus were dispatched from Appleton Wisconsin yesterday to Boston to investigate. Ladders 1, 7 & 18 were taken out-of-service until a complete and thorough inspection was completed. The Boston Herald had a great story & picture on page 2 of today's paper. http://news.bostonherald.com/localRegional...rticleid=184327 More information when it becomes available.

Wow, neutral a little "south of heaven" there huh? Were these previous damages ever reported to the company? If not heads are going to be rolling.

Ummm that is nearly impossible since GPS still is not pin-point accurate and there is still a default on most systems between 10 to 100 feet. The technology is there but it is not accurate nor has it been fully tested and is still in development. When it does get to that pin-point accuracy then it would be a most beneficial tool but so is supervision.

Well you mean a cross-band repeater set of frequencies or what do you mean? If that is the case, you need to go to the local frequency coordinator and get an FCC license to use it, plus permission to up-link to those two frequencies listed.

I'm A Bearcat fan but RS/GRE has made some good scanners over the years, good luck with it.

I can't believe it either. Usually I hear the excuse of "not enough money" up here but sorry, money is no object when it comes to safety. The real problem is laziness and not having the proper people in the right offices in my opinion. I was stunned when I read this, OSHA must have had to investigate something that happened there. Connecticut is an OSHA (Conn-OSHA) state for all that do not know this.

This is why background checks have to be done! This guy tried to get into my firehouse a few years back (As stated in the article) and other firehouses and other agencies as well. Thankfully all the agencies have members know who this jerk is and we contact the local PD's asap. REPOSTED FROM THE NEW HAVEN REGISTER: Ex offender charged with forgery Michelle Tuccitto Sullo, Naugatuck Valley Bureau Chief 02/24/2007 -SHELTON — A registered sex offender with a history of impersonating law enforcement personnel was charged Friday with forgery after he allegedly used a fake name to try to become a local firefighter. Edward Minerly, 44, of 80 Center St., Shelton, was charged with two counts of second-degree forgery, after police conducted a search of his home. Minerly is listed on the state Department of Public Safety’s Sex Offender Registry, as he was convicted in 1992 of first-degree sexual assault on a minor. He had been charged in 1991 with sexually assaulting two children, ages 6 and 9, in Derby. Detective Ben Trabka said Minerly tried to join the Echo Hose Hook & Ladder Company recently. According to Trabka, Minerly used a fake last name, "Miner," on an application. "A couple of firemen recognized him and alerted us, and we began an investigation," Trabka said. Trabka said Minerly had also tried to join the Echo Hose Ambulance. Jason Perillo, chief of Echo Hose Ambulance, said Minerly had asked to observe with members on the ambulance, but didn’t apply to join. "We became aware of some of his background and asked him to leave, which he did," Perillo said. Police executed a search warrant Friday at Minerly’s home, looking for evidence of forgery. "We recovered numerous articles of (emergency uniform-style) clothing and two badges, one for a firefighter and one for a security guard," Trabka said. Police seized a black Chevrolet Lumina which had been outfitted like a police car, with a siren, lights and a spotlight, according to Trabka. Police do not know if Minerly has attempted to pull anyone over with the vehicle, Trabka said. Police also found handcuffs among Minerly’s belongings, police said. "All of the items we seized were items he was banned from having," Trabka said. According to Trabka, Minerly has been arrested before for impersonating police officers and fire personnel, and is prohibited from having any affiliation with any firehouse, emergency medical service or police department. Police are consulting with probation officials, and Minerly may face additional charges if he violated any conditions of probation. Fire Chief John Millo said the department notified police after learning there was a possible problem with an individual applying to become a firefighter. The application was received about 30 days ago, he said. "It was great work by Detective Trabka and the Police Department to bring this case to a close," Millo said. "(Minerly) had prior problems and convictions that precluded him from being affiliated with any emergency services. I’m thankful to the firefighters who suspected a problem." Minerly has a history of trying to join various emergency organizations. In 1999, for example, he was charged with criminal impersonation for allegedly using a fake name to try to become a firefighter in Ansonia. Minerly was held in lieu of $25,000 bail and arraigned Friday in Superior Court in Derby. His case was continued to March 6. As of late Friday, Minerly had not posted bail. It used to be if the company wanted a 2QB they purchased it themselves or took it from an older unit that had one as far as I was told.
-
no Starting to sound like "operator error"..... not good. Hopefully it isn't.
-
That truck does not have 4 2QB's, Its only two mechanicals and two Federal Electronic Q's (they have "gills" to go over the speakers to make them look like the . But still for sirens, One Q, one NFPA recommended electronic siren with a PA and one set of air horns are more than enough enough. As for lighting, it is so easy for going overboard. I believe you don't need 15 light bars on your roof two roto's and 3 Mars lights to do the job like some departments do. If you keep the minimum lighting requirements of 1901 and add may be a extra set of flashers on the rear of the truck and a single roto or Mars / oscilaser then fine. I know of a department that has every single bell and whistle on the truck and it is an electrical nightmare, too much amp draw. I'm all for viability and making yourself heard (like my straight pipes on my bike, no comments please) but enough is enough! Good money can be spent on the truck for far more better things.
-
Yes, the truck that failed was the new Pierce and it is a Medium Duty (can tell by only one set of jacks instead of two sets like a heavy duty will have). The replacement will be an E-One from the spare pool. No other info as of yet.
-
I love the comment at the end about not making it through the drive through!
-
I believe that its a medium duty 100 foot aerial, I'm unsure though. I'll post more as the info becomes available.
-
Who's truck is that with all the bells & whistles??? I can tell its a Spartan cab.

I saw the aerial ladders there 2 weeks ago. ← Dang, I'm soo out of touch working mids now. How do they look?

The Beep Alert is not the same at the 396T or 996T tone out. The Beep Alerts is a setting for a chime that goes off when there is activity on a channel you may want to listen to. When the scanner stops on that channel during a transmission, it set off the chime at the same time. It can be set on or off for ever channel of the 789, 785 & 790 XLT scanners. Its a cool feature but the problem is that if the signal is wee and the channel "squelches" a lot, the beep keep triggering. Its good for local channels. Personally I don't like it.

If I remember right, Shelton had tow simultaneous fires or this one occured just after they were mopping up from the second. Shelton's two towns away from me.
-
I work for CSP, they have to contact us if they stop someone on ANY highway in CT, just like local PDs have to.

Congrats Pat!

As of right now, there is no press release from Ford's corporate website about engine the E-450 series line. Ford has revamped lines before so this could be the case, or not. Don't listen o the rumor mill until its released as fact. It could be that AEV is no longer offering Ford Trucks in its own ambulance models. I get newsletters from Ford so I'll keep an eye out and post what ever info I get.

Brewster has pictures of their new rig on the department's webpage.

I'm a fourth generation firefighter at my company, which is located and was founded on the street named after my great - great grandparents who built the first house on the street and my grandmother still owns today. I can trace several family members back to the beginning of the company.

It in the Allingtown section of West Haven (northern end of the city), sponsored by the Allingtown Fire Department. I know the parade is planned to go through Allingtown and I had heard that the Convention maybe at either Carrigan Middle School on Farifax Rd or at Notre Dame HS, which is on the other side of UNH but I am unsure which will be the actual convention location. The CT Convention is easy to remember since it is always the Third Week of September, which is the week after the Milford Engine 260 Muster.
