  1. WOOOOHOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE MIGHTY XRK IS BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!! ABOUT TIME! We have WCCC up here outta Hartford and they play great music and I can get XRK too. (unlike WPLR which is heavy on rotation but still play some good olds classics). WELCOME BACK MY OLD FRIEND!!! (I'm starting to think about growing my hair back again)
  2. But you still didn't answer why are they called apartments when they area close together and why do we drive on a park way and park in a drive why! LOL I heard a bunch of these before, always gives me a good chuckle and wow!
  3. Thanks Steve and good luck with the new stick!
  4. Just a question, since you operate a ladder, why didn't you decide to get a tower platform to replace the old tiller? Just no need for one?
  5. Brevity is a must and being a dispatcher for close to 10 years both volunteering and as a career, I strongly agree with everyone here. When I work we give out important information on dispatch with out getting long winded. For example a box in Ansonia, CT would sound like this: "WSW691 - Fire Comm to the Ansonia Fire Department, box number 71 sounding for a reported structure fire at 34 Grove Street. Engine 4, Engine 1, Ladder 7, & Squad 9 to respond, cross streets are Howard Avenue to Day Street." then we will do a quick repeat. When the first unit signs on we give any updated or description by the caller and when engines sign on, then give them the closest hydrant locations. That's the way I do it and have been trained over they years.
  6. YES, especially when your driving the truck and operating on a highway to warn members of potential dangers. I haven done that in the past.
  7. WOW! Unbelievable and thank god their training took over!
  8. Hey all, I went to check out RocklandFires.com this morning and the site seems to be down. Are they having server issues or something? Izzy
  9. Wasn't an attack bro, just ribbing ya! Sorry for making you think that.
  10. 01:43 - got home from work and still down, must be server problems for those sites.
  11. You know, I still got my grandfather's old NY Central pins and watch. Great keep sakes.
  12. This is a great forum and so are New England and SoCal. Members who are not verified should realize that even the littlest suggestions and comments can spark a good discussion and express different points of views. I'm not an old dog yet but I've definitely learned a from different view points which is good because this is a service that you area constantly learning. We have so many members and I feel that some have strayed away and others are just lurkers. Come on and get verified, you opinion is just as important as mine or anyone else. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "You'll will be assimilated, resistance is futile!"
  13. I grew up around the firehouse and and many people in my family have been members of the company I belong to since its inception. I've always wanted to be a firefighter and volunteering has driven my goals to make it a career choice in the firematic and public safety services.
  14. The black stripe is reflective! It is produces by 3M and when light hits it, it gives off a grayish/gold almost white reflection. We have the same stripe on my engine and we were skeptical (along with others at first) our old police cars in town had the black reflective stripes and lettering along with gold reflective and were amazed how well it worked. Don't doubt something unless you have seen how well it does work.
  15. They are a common sight along the Waterbury line. I'll have to check the number on the engine that comes up this way if it is the same on in the picture, the FL-9s are usually based in New Haven if memory serves me correctly.
  16. The lightbars have green in them still, the front flashers are al red now for some reason.
  17. Three or Four years ago we had a nasty dispute in CT, mainly in the South West (Fairfield) and South Central (New Haven) areas between two commercial ambulance services responding to "Priority 1" (aka medical emergencies that should go through 911). For example in my town we have our own municipal ambulance service and the local rehabilitation center would call either 911 or their contracting transporting service depending on the call. Unfortunately 9 out of 10 calls to the commercial services they contracted (these two commercial services in question) would get to the scene and find out its a priority call, contact the dispatch center over the MED radio and then we would have to send the local ambulance and paramedic intercept. We'll this turned into a fight with the commercial services sneaking around the system going lights and siren to the call and then telling us after they were en route to the hospital with a priority patient. Now this happened else where through out the areas and these two services bickering with each other and going to court. NOW comes the the cities, towns and agencies that have the local PSARs who provide first responder service in the municipalities through both regions who were fed up from the start of of the commercial agencies and nursing facilities circumventing the 911 system as it was in tended (needless to say yes patients suffered from this) and wanted to put a stop to it, not for trying to make money but provide the service that the municipalities invested in to provide proper care for all those people with in the towns they resided, worked or were facilitated in. The PSAR holders do not mind the commercial service doing their inter-faciltiy transportation of patients to doctors appointments, ect but when the commercial service got the call for a MI and they were coming from 15 miles away to get the patient and transfer them to a hospital, who is suffering here???? AND who looks bad for not providing service, so to speak despite 911 not being called for immediate service. Well, needless to say this is only part of the story and I cannot get into the whole thing, especially because I work at a CMED and witnessed this first hand. In the end, any nursing home or re-hab facility has to call 911 for true medical emergencies and if the private service is contacted, that service has to contact that specific agency who dispatches the local ambulance and medic service to respond for the medical emergency. This was a mess, trust me but now it works a lot better not with the new regulations in place.

  22. With so many flashing lights from the apparatus, I don't see it as a problem except for when someone looks directly into the flash when you are taking a picture. I would say that angling the flash up more and may be not directly pointing or aiming at a specific object or towards someones eyes, though I know that is hard to do. I don't see it as a problem.
  23. Aren't you supposed to be Proceeding with caution when driving apparatus whether in emergency or non emergency????? I HAT THAT TERM. Use Emergency, Hot or Priority one for lights and siren response and Non-Emergency, respond with traffic, cold or Priority 2 for no lights and siren respons. Many departments abuses that term so much that it eventually leads to respond at a slower speed with lights and siren still on! If an emergency response is not needed shut off the warning devices. (Alpha just using you quote to make a point on my opinion, nothing against ya.)
  24. For me if PG County was smart, they should separate the EMS end of their operations from the fire department. There have been nothing but problems with the department as a whole on the EMS issue.
