  1. I went to www.engine119croton.org and it said the domain name expired on 8/22. Anyone know if the site will be back up or not?
  2. Thanks for the update!
  3. From firehouse.com http://cms.firehouse.com/web/online/News/D...g/46$56195
  4. Could be. I do remember seeing a picture of a London Fire Brigade helmet that was kinda like these, but it also had the old High Ridge from front to back, without the old traditional lip off the rear. It did kinda look like a knight's helmet. I'll see if I can find the pic.
  5. Thanks TB. I wasn't sure how much could be put into it.
  6. If I remember correctly, they have this little tool call SIDS at the dispatch center which can be brought up on the MDTs on the rigs. Didn't they have this information available to them when they were responding or did the dispatchers know of this directive to remind the members about the hazards? How is anyone going to remember a memo form two years ago if they don;t have it in their run book? I'm not knocking anymore, just curious how this slipped through the cracks on a SOG. Also its really interesting how the stand pipe system which could have been in place was damaged. Lets hope that this unfortunate incident will make all departments realize that we have to keep up on these things.
  7. Anyone think after this statement that the agreement between New Era and the Yankees might be done in the near future?
  8. Hey, i was moving furniture the other day and I lost three packs of Oregano, has anyone seen it???? OH............... Just joking, this does not look good at all.
  9. It's not Steinbrenner's or the organization's corporate office fault with this. It is the Licensing Agreement that is signed between New Era and the New York Yankees organization. An official licensing agreement allows an apparel company to use the logo of a sports team, ect. and in return the company, in this case New Era, uses the logo on its products and a cut of the profits return back to the organization. Furthermore, the NYY logo, the name New York Yankees, the navy blue cap with the white NYY logo and also the pinstripes are copyrighted and property of the Yankees organization. When a licensing agreement is also signed, in this case the Yankees also allow a company to design the other style hats and really the Yankees don't have a say, they should though! When these agreements are entered into with apparel companies, the organizations should have total control over what there logo and trademarks area used on before being sold to the public. Another case of making a product and trying to make money off a good name. But also, did they also make bandanna like caps in yellow, black, green or any other color in the rainbow also? Marketers really have to think about what products they put out and how they area perceived.
  10. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ that's all I have to say
  11. The light on the tip is not for responding to an alarm, it is only activated when you engage the aerial device and used to point out where the tip of the ladder is when it is extended. Flashing lights at the tip help the operator see see where it is and the light is usually yellow or blue. Blue is better since its technically a "dimmer" shade to the eye and won't blind the fighters when looking up at the tip like brighter colors do.
  12. Read this from Kentland dated 8/10/07 http://www.myfirecompanies.com/filelock/11...KentlandVFD.pdf
  13. Just an FYI, CTfire-ems.com is currently down. I had trouble last night trying to get on but it cleared up after a little bit. I have been trying to get on to it for the past couple of hours and it looks like they area having a server problem.
  14. This has been brewing for a long time and from past articles, there has been a lot of friction between Chief Sedgwick and several of the houses through out PG County. I don't know about the career side if there is problems cause its seems to be either ok or hushed. But there is a lot of problems between several of the companies and the chief. One issue was with the merger of companies 2, 3 & 4 which is now station 55 and the two ladders they had their (Ladder 2 & Ladder 3). They ended up taking ladder 3 out of service (a tiller and newer I think) and there was a big uproar about it on the station's website and the merger of the three companies was supposed to be experimental (if memory serves me correctly). Now I don't know the logistics about it so I'm not going to speculate or argue about who, what, when where and why but this seems like the beginning of a long drawn out debate down there. If I can find some of the stuff I had read (both sides) I'll link and post it here. Looks like this is going to get really ugly.
  15. Congrats, good luck and stay safe bro!
  16. Wasn't there one at the Nassau Coliseum just recently?
  17. Remember your building construction! I agree with Remember and access should be made by the front door and also through the garage door (if there is access to the rest of the house but using caution what Remember said about the Delorian up stairs) and of course do a 360 of the house. 9 times out of 10 when you have what is in the orange circle it is usually a vaulted ceiling or even some sort of staircase BUT never assume. It could be a bedroom or even a loft overlooking the first floor. If fire was showing from where the organ circle is, first thing I would door is get two large caliber hand lines (2 inch or 2 1/2) for fear of a heavy fire condition in this area of the house, thinking worst case scenario that this is all open. Defiantly an aerial device to the roof and sounding it before getting on it. Two sets of ground ladders for each side of the house do its size. This is so much to try and figure out on this one and I know there is about a million different ways here.
  18. There is a picture on the net somewhere that shows a tree that actually grew around a hydrant. Talk about neglected.
  19. I rather have this look than the Evolution look. But looks ain't everything, We got a Gladiator Classis cab and chassis and we love it. Its a good dependable unit.
  20. See I grew up in a military based family with my father serving 20 years for his country and I wanted to follow in his foot steps but because of my father's wishes since he was sick, I did not serve. Having that said, I have always supported out military whether the Commander in Chief in my mind made a good or bad decision in sending our sailors, marines, solders, airmen and guardsmen into harms way. What pisses me off the most is that the people of the Unites States that protest against the current war in Iraq are blaming the military for it when in fact they are doing their job ad directed by their boss, aka the President. Now when we, as firefighters, go to honor an support our military overseas on active duty or remembering those on Memorial Day who gave the supreme sacrifice, we should be able to use our trucks to show our support. Why?? Simple, how many members of our departments serves in the military?? A lot of course. But the problem here is that some (lack of a better term) ignorant know-it-all can't make a difference between a soldier's support rally for a local son / daughter who is serving oversees and the people are trying to make others remember they are over there in harms way. So raise that flag up on the trucks and / or the aerial to show your pride and support of our troops. However, there area so many ignorant people that think supporting your troops is a pro-war rally that they area probably the same people who want prohibition again and repeal the Second Amendment also. It just ticks me off that many cannot take the blinders off and see the truth. I don't think we should have invaded Iraq but that is a political argument that I don;t want to get into, our C-I-C had reasons to. HOWEVER, if someone said to me, get on the truck were going to have a support rally for PFC John Doe from my town to wish him well, I would be the first to take the truck there. Just my rant. Sorry for the rant all.
  21. Hey guys not for nothing, I do agree that there was a lot done wrong in the video but come on, think for a minute and put yourself in their shoes. One, their firehouse is on fire, their second home and their emotions are running high. Of course they are not going to think straight because they have to get the apparatus out of the bays, many member's gear is still in the firehouse, let alone all the company's personal effects. Not lets take this a different step, what if this was your firehouse or even worse, your own home. What then, do you think that you would do everything "by the book" or would you try to do something that you would do under normal circumstances? Now, the first due engine (the one from mutual aid or the second station) could have been far out because the size of this department's district right? Since the fire wasn't discovered for 10 minutes, then it it took off and by the time dispatch was notified of it and the members rushing to the scene and finding the whole place going up, are you going to think with a level head or are you gonna s### a brick?? Me, I'll be doing the second, cause I know me and emotions, thought it should, will take over and I bet anyone they would do the same if they came across this scene as it was their own firehouse. We can't actually predict who we might act but what are you going to do with out any equipment and apparatus? Stand there and watch? I don't think so. I'm playing devils' advocate here and want all to really think of the worst case scenario if the was your firehouse. Obviously I don't think any of us here would put ourselves in a dangerous situation but I do believe that our mind-set would be in a more rushed state where anyone of us might not be processing our thoughts right. Now having that said, take a step back and think, don't analyze, what would you might do if you were running on pure emotions at first before you got your bearings. I know I would be going ape-s@@@ at first.
  22. Of course my friend! When have you taken me seriously! LOL Seriously though, Seth did describe it the best though..
  23. Hey Sage, I think CT DMV would still require a Class A license for this type of unit even if a tractor / trailer combo tanker truck is considered a fire truck. The "Q" endorsement (formerly a restriction) is a weight class issue and does not include tandems. They may also require a hazmat endorsement do to the amount of liquid carried in the tank as well. I'll look it up though. Having a tandem tanker truck like this as a first in water supply is a definite plus for the fire service but as many said how hard would it be to fit the truck down some old streets.
  24. I usually go unconcious after several adult beverages and choose to be unresponsive. Does that quallify???? Just joking all. Seth described it the best. If you give a sleeping person a good ol' sternal rub and they wake up and swear at you then they are A & O times three (Alert and Oriented)
  25. Guys, it simple, competition. Why do we go to parades? Why do we attend musters? Why do we organized softball teams and gold tournaments? Why to we play beer pong????? We like friendly competition and taking pride in the competition we perform in. Plus too it an old time tradition to participate in competitions not only in the fire services but what about drum corps and marching bands, ect.??? It a good time and moral booster. If you are into it fine but at the same time there many "overboard" situations that ruin it also. Got to keep in mind this if for fun. Just my sensible 2 cents and not busting anyone's chops.
