  1. The last I heard on ESPN is that he had been out with an injury from his team and recovering at home at the time he was shot. He was shot in the lower groin area as reported by ESPN and that his family is also not releasing any more information at thsi time other that he is in critical condition at a local hospital.
  2. Now if it was his home, then it would have been a whole different story. I'm a full supporter of my 2nd Amendment rights but he's gonna face some harsh criticism and eventually the judge.
  3. Also its the home to Stanley Tools. New Britian I beleive has a decent taxbase due to the manufacturing facilities that remain. I am uncertain though I do know they have a decent vehicle replacement program.
  4. Seth, Here's the link to the CT Fire Museum. http://www.ceraonline.org/Firemuseum/index.html I beleive it was recently restored but I am not certain.
  5. LHFD is 303 done yet? I was there last week when the guys started decorating the truck.
  6. Your telling me! How true how true with getting hired up there. I've been trying to get up there for many years also. Its very tough.
  7. See my post above.
  8. Yes, though all two-way communication radios work intrinsically the same (transmit and receive) they are different. Amature, Public Safety and business radios all have different rules, specification and operations outlined by the FCC towards their construction and operations. Though your county VHF public saftey and Amature VHF are basically the same (the radios themselves and not a system) and operate on thier respective band width allocations, they are regulated totally different. Give me a PM and I'll try and explain how a police or fire radio system works.
  9. Have they figured out if it was a base radio / antenna problem or if it was the phone lines yet?
  10. HAM operations is totally differnet than a public radio system first off. HAM operator use LF (low frequency) HF (high Frequency), VHF and UHF repeaters, nothing like what M/A COM is installing. Here we are talking apples and oranges between amature and public service radio operations. When you construct a system such as the trunking systems many departments use, you are connecting multiple towers, using multiple frequecies and hooking all that into a computer system. This is about the best way of descriobing the system without actually getting into the whole technical aspect of design & propigation studies (how a radio signal travels through the air and is effected by terrain, landscape, sunspots, weather conditions, ect. ect. ect.) The main problem with M/A COM is the technology they created and are trying to use. Its just not working and NYS has to begin looking else where for a new statewide interoprability system in my opinion.
  11. I'm not picking on you at all but with you having said that, what makes you think that his statement of if fire pagers don't work picking up the system (despite that the system will not be used for that use) that portable and mobile radios will? Simple theory is that if you can't receive a transmission, you can't transmit back to it. This system is being built in addition to local services radio systems which department curently use and is not meant to be heavily relied upon as thier primary radio system. This is a common problem with building a system that utilizes trunking and also a ultra high frequency range. Plus too M/A COM has been having a lot of problems with their systems and also this new technology. Go to radioreference.com, strongsignals.net and other radio forum sites and read up on the problems. Having worked for CTSP as a dispatcher, we had several areas that have spotty coverage and is constantly being ugraded and repaired to fix the problems, that is the case with all radio systems.
  12. Steve, glad you posted it. It is amazing how many people don't understand the old "triple" term. People should know there firefighter history if they want to be one.
  13. When I used to dispatch at CSP, we would get the same cell phone calling 911 and could not call it back. Usually you can tell on the ALI / ANI screen that its a 911 only phone if it had 911 for the area code or it stated "NO ANI INFORMATION AVAILABLE". If I remember correctly there was a lot of old cell phones still out there that when you have the "9" key activated for a quick call for 911, you actually didn't know the phone was being dialed (they have to have some sort of warning now on modern cell phones). That was usually the problem since most accidental 911 calls were "fanny calls" (people sitting on their phones without the key pad lock on.
  14. Mass had a rule on the books since the 1970's that all ambulances operating in the Commonwealth shall be white with an organ stripe as to identify the unit as an ambulance and not a rescue. I forget how the actual wording is stated but this EMS rule was in effect until 2005 / 2006 when it was repealed.
  15. Well Saturns, mainly for their sub structure is difficult yo cut and spread. I never had an issue with the plastic body because most of the time, the impact really shattered the plastic body. Volvos are also notorious for their "body cages" and could be difficult especially with their re-enforcing impact bars and such.
  16. Awesome history of the department! Keep it updated and also keep on researching, I bet you'll find more about each company through old newspaper articles and such. Again great job guys!
  17. Also to the old New York City volunteer fire department was known as NYFD up until the organization of the paid department in 1865.
  18. Not defending the action with the bottles on the table at all, but except for us, how many people watching that show actually noticed and said something about it? Any comments from the public, non-emergency personnel, on any sights about this? I'm kinda curious if the gen public actually noticed it.
  19. Blatant negligence, unreal!! ALL DISPATCHERS, YOU ARE BEING RECORDED AND WHAT YOU SAY CAN BE USED AGAINST YOU!
  20. Is VMFD's Sutphen TDA the only one that company ever built and is in active service?

  22. You forgot one.... You can do the job better from the dispatch center than the guys out in the field!!! LOL Your post is soooo true, now I'm only part-time!
  23. WOW 4 years already!! HB!
  24. I think this is great for kids and help with fire prevention also. It is also a good PR tool for us. I wish more departments could do something like this or something similar. Heck, what kid doesn't like a fire truck?!
  25. I think the problem was two things. One, since the bucket was part of the tiller box, it had a pop up roof but only only had a ceiling height (floor of box to inside of the pop top) of six feet, the box itself had to be closed up when it was raised from the stationary seat and steering wheel and set up was too complicated. The other I believe was the practicality of it since the design didn't give it too much scrub area and the jacking wasn't that great. They tries to design it as a tractor drawn aerial instead of a tractor drawn tower ladder.
