  1. I've been to Omaha and the city limits are huge so yes a six minute response time for travel is possible. Omaha's incorporated area is just about the size of Westchester County. Chris also states it the best, when you say "six minute response time" the clock starts when you receive the first 911 call and the incident ticket is punched into the CAD. Within thirty seconds the dispatcher should be assigning and sending units to an incident and figure from that point of dispatch it will take another roughly thirty seconds to a minute before an actual responding unit goes en route. For police, times many vary depending if they area on patrol, where they are located at the time they are dispatched, ect. Plus backup ESU and other resources. I've dispatched for fire and the state police so I've seen how it works on both sides.
  2. As far as I know ALF is going strong and my career department deals with ALF's CT dealership and they haven't said anything. Sure it isn't you local dealer that is having problems? I know there was a short production lapse whn the move took place during the summer.
  3. Maybe the drvier needed the ice to melt quicker!!! lol
  4. ALF is not going out of business. They were bought by another company from Frieghtliner quite some time ago and just opened up a new huge facility in South Carolina. E-One is currently in some fiscal trouble. Are you mistaking companies? As for right now, E-One is still in operation and owned by Federal Signal though they area experiencing a huge profit loss.
  5. Hey Snotty lets bring this up in another discussion. I'll start the topic. Here's the link to it. http://emtbravo.net/index.php?showtopic=21930
  6. Well at least you can ride the rear step of a garbage truck!! <joking>
  7. I highly doubt the "Black Ops" theory. They still list those in special forces who are killed in the LOD under their regular unit. As for this whole thing on the records, come on, someone jumped the gun here when they got the call it seems, as the way I'm interpreting it. Yah, emotions took over rational thinking here before it was checked out. It happens, but thsi doesn't look good. Now what everyone has to figure out is who made this orignal call to Glenbrook.
  8. If you area going one source custom chassis and cabs made by say ALF, Pierce, Sutphen, ect. your going to pay more. If you decide to go commercial using a heavy duty business class chassis al la Frieghtlines, Streling, Mack then you can save money. Another option is using a cab abd chassis made by Spartan or HME for example (technically a custom commercial cab). When designing a truck, using a engine-forward commercial chassis adds to the length of the vehicle and also greatly extends the wheel base and effects the turning radius greatly. Having a custom cab forward or commercial cab-over (ei the Mack MR chassis) engine style reduces the wheel base greatly and improves the turning radius of the truck.
  9. Finally, the news showing how many people abuse the EMS system.
  10. It varies between departments. For my company and others in my town, we do background checks as part of our vigilance committee investigations. There is no law that requires this and all records for a volunteer have to be kept by the company and also a copy on the city department level. A side question, does Glenbrook have a photo of this guy to prove that he was a member there??? This might help identify who this person really is if in fact there is a hoax going on.
  11. I've been playing mucical instruments for the past 25 year of my life, I started young. Guitar & bass = 19 years Clarinet, Sax, flute = 25 years. Drums = 13 years.
  12. At work, my engine has painted roll ups. The eight year old truck looks great with them painted. I think its a matter of choice.
  13. Dude it is unreal. If that was a standard car she hit, well she might have seriously injured or killed someone. Luckily the B-Port brothers were OK and buckled up. Some of the people that have money have no friggin clue. She ran the stop sign and was worried about getting to her Westport job WAH!!!!!!! I wouldn;t doubt that she was gabbing away on the pink cell phone while she was driving too.
  14. I was asking too, I just noticed my typos and how it was worded. I trust JBE's reply since he knows the FDNY ops and how things go with the department.
  15. My ex-girlfriend's brother in law runs the mountain. Belleayre is a great place, and I'm not just saying than either. And though I didn't know how to ski (I'm a boarder) the staff was great trying to teach me how to.
  16. WOW Really low cross lays, high visability rear cheverons, good compartment spacing and shelving. Good Luck with the new rig.
  17. More than likely it was documented by the Capt / LT on the rig. And besides if not the Engine Company was still there. Was the TL going to another run or worker if known? You can't tell by this video.
  18. I still have mt Lionel O scale trains and also my uncle's American Flyer O Scale circa 1958 set which I'm giving back to him.
  19. Though I was not the one who changed the title, I have something to say about this. As a moderator and looking at what was typed here, it was an announcement of selling traditional Christmas trees as a fund raiser. So the original poster typed "X-mas" instead of Christmas. Why should you comment on what someone was typing to announce a fundraiser. IT IS THESE PETTY BULL REASONS AND FLAMING THAT RUIN A GOOD THING!!!!! STOP THE PETTY BULL............ Oh yah, before any of you question me, I am a Catholic, I prefer using not using X-MAS but it doesn't give me the right to flame someone. Use your heads!
  20. Yah but I will never swear again while digging for a hydrant in the snow again! LOL
  21. Watch the video closely, just seconds before the tower actually reached the white lines to stop light and the cross walk, the SUV came through the intersection and then stopped. Obviously the SUV was going fast by the way the driver slammed on the breaks. As for the tower, since the filmer is looking head on, its tough to judge if the tower driver was slowing down or not but the car did come into the intersection before the tower reached the lines, at least by what I see replaying it. This is a classic case of people not paying attention when they are driving and then panicking when faced with an emergency apparatus coming through an intersection. Regardless of who was wrong here, this would have been a really bad crash. Good work on the tower driver for paying attention to the traffic. This is a reminder for all of use in apparatus or POV (responding to calls or just driving normally).
  22. <--- With the new improved graphics below, you think I should change my avitar???? Seriously though, I think this is a good idea as long as everyone keep within the rules.
  23. I just got cleared at work to be an MPO and had to do a couple of drafting drills to get used to it. Where I work, we have hydrants but the surrounding community doesn't. Its a little bit of a culture shock to me sine I came from a vollie department with hydrants every 500 or so feet. I did learn how to draft years ago when I first became a certified driver but never actually had to employ drafting at an incident. Now where I work, its a real scenario if we get called mutual aid to another town.
  24. First off I couldn't find the original posts on this. With the recent topic of train horns on apparatus, there is a picture of R-2's E-one with their horns on top. The picture was posted on yahoo groups FDNYING. I know they had them on the 1978 Mack R / Saulsbury rescue but did they have them on all the rescues in between and when did they start using them. I think its kinda unique to have them and are effective. Any more info?
  25. The History Channel is basically in my opinion creating a show showing how people, after eating a bowl of stupid for breakfast, had total disreguard for their own lives (and others) and survived a terrible situation. At least that is how the trailers for this new show are being presented. Even look at the firefighters operating at the gas / oil plant when it explodes and you see a FF diving down into the product. That happened in Honolulu back ten plus years ago. Hopefully they have some sort of disclaimer or something about watching the show on what not to do. I'll watch it because it seems there will be a lot of good survival stories but when it comes to use, lets hope that they get the story right. Remember, trailers only show a smidge of the segment to attract viewers.
