You know what, regardless of what the cop did and how us public safety types argue and view this, it does bring out a reminder about gas struts, THEY EXPLODE AND CAUSE SERIOUS INJURIES! A few years back, the Windsor Locks FD in CT responded to car fire where a gas strut for a hood (don't remember of engine or rear hatch hood, but anyway, the strut exploded, dislodged from the car and WENT STRAIGHT INTO A FIREFIGHTER'S LEG. He was fully outfitted in his PPE and the only way he knew something wrong was the hot burning sensation in his leg and when he looked down, there was the strut, just above the knee, in from one side and poking out the other. It doesn't matter what agency you're from, or what job you perform, when you approach a car fire, use extreme caution.

I know, I was "picked on" (joking of course) for saying that the last time in one of the other PCFD threads, thought someone would pick up on my previous post. They were the East Port Chester Fire Company up until the 1980s when the name changed to the Byram Volunteer Fire Department as far as I know. I don't have the complete history. It used to confuse the heck out of men when I was a kid. None the less, great pictures of a historical event!

PGFD has their rotos but O.W.L. FD has always had the three 888's for many years. I believe www.firepics.net has pictures of their entire fleet and they have some very unique apparatus configurations set up for their response. Also FAJ had a profile on O.W.L. FD in one of their bi-monthly publications last year, I wanna say it was the June-July edition.

Had another apparatus wet dream last night huh bro?! Thinking of that Mack CF with the ALF aerial ladder that was once out on the island huh?? LOL Just joking of course. Strategically it makes sense but financially with ALF's current problems (financial and otherwise) it might not make good business sense now.

It's right off of Route 9 and there is signs leading to it in Hudson if I remember correctly. I haven't been there in a while but do they have a great collection of equipment.

My understanding is that all apparatus built after 2005 are required to HAVE the new standard and any apparatus that was built prior to the implementation date is exempt but it is highly recommended to be fitted for hose bed netting if it does not have any. Any fire apparatus undergoing refurbishment must follow the 1901 RECOMENDATIONS. Now having that said, just like warning lights, 1901 is a recommended standard and should be addopted but technically with the legal-eze, it doesn't have to be. (My opinion you should adopt the standard but that's another discussion). And to answer Nick 's question, its not that expensive to retrofit an older truck with netting. Since your from BFD fire lets use old E-3's Hahn. The only thing you would need to do is have a canvas hose bed cover for both the body bed and crosslays secured with some sort of snap / bungie-rope latch system on the top and draping over the the sides with some sort of secured velcro or tie down that is easy to manipulate getting the hose out. Cost is about $1000 to 1500 depending what has to be done. Its a real easy thing to add on and you don't have to go with metal covers.

I totally agree with you. It almost looks like a totally different truck from the original design.

Maybe there was a problem with the media before with this one officer of the department or with the FD? There are so many angles we can go here. We'll have to wait an see, I beleive there are three sides to the story, hers, theres and the truth. We'll have to wait and see about the FOI ouctome of this in my opinion.
