  1. Just disgusting!
  2. Just make sure you don't have velcro on the inside and D-hook on the out. I had a coat issued to me like this and after one fire, needless to say I had no chest hair left. The damn thing opened up on me. Needless to say I got rid of it and went back to my old coat.
  3. September 21st, 2008 - CT Firefighter's Association Convention parade - Hosted by Cromwell FD.
  4. A tower ladder, ladder tower, elevating platform, articulating platform, telescoping elevated platform and combination telescoping articulating platform are just manufacturer designations on the type of aerial apparatus.
  5. As a dispatcher for several years handling calls over a large area, I know the good and bad points about a CAD. The biggest problem is like everyone said, the programmers and the center director who haven't be on the desk for quite some time just don't know or have forgot. This article the Chief Goldfeder wrote brings to light one thing, the CAD still needs a human element and backup. When you are entering in data for a large area, the programmers a bound to forget something. That is what was done here, a viaduct that always had a listing in the old computer system and also the old card system was not entered into the new CAD. Since there was no data in the computer, a good dispatcher / decision dispatcher who knows his / her job and area should look up the closet intersection to the one that is not in the CAD or look it up through a backup system. I still believe though you have a CAD, there should also be a printed version of the run cards. ALSO, you should be able to "force" the entry in and also after the incident the correct information must entered into the computer by the CAD manager so that this will not happen again. Knowing your area also is a major help of a dispatcher and also for a responding unit.
  6. Looks like a modified halligan and officer's tool together.
  7. Also if you are using a newer version of IE or Firefox you can also right click on the link and select new tab so your in the same browser but get a different screen. This feature is good if you don;t want to loose your main page. Try what EX2114 said first and try going to EMTBravo.net instead of COM, login and start left clicking around to see if the topics come up in the same browser screen first.
  8. It sound like a settings problem on your end. When you click a link to rear a topic, it should automatically transfer on the same web browser screen. The only thing that would open new "web boxes" is if you are right clicking a link then clicking on "open new window" on the menu. Describe exactly what you are doing and I'll try to help you out and figure out what is going wrong.
  9. Who's funds are you using????? LOL
  10. I can't wait to see their summer quarters!!!!
  11. Well the boys in Alaska have Rouge Waves, this is the first Rouge Bridge I've ever seen!!!!!
  12. You know your a buff when you know what companies are closer for mutual aid than your own chiefs, officers and dispatch center. You know your a buff when you get up at 2 in the morning to drive across the state to catch a job. (I never did that LOL) You know your a buff when you are the first realize that several departments change thier alert tones and no one else realizes it. You know your a buff when you buy a car or truck by the ease it is to place your radios and lights in.
  13. My though on this is that if you have an initial FAST / RIT unit assigned for an alarm and arrive on scene, then they are to remain at thier assigned duty position. If the IC or responding highest ranking officer makes a decision that the responding unit designated FAST / RIT needs to "go to work" because of man power issues, then the IC must immediately call for another FAST / RIT unit. The decision to make a FAST unit a "working" unit on a fire scene must be made prior to thier arrival and not being placed to work while on scene, thus waiting for another cover FAST company to come in, now you have a gap. The FAST / RIT concept is not really that new, we as firefighters have been assisting and rescuing our own for as long as firefighting has been around in America. We just now refined it and now gave a specific duty to one company on scene. With the two-in two-out rule, we can still cover with out having a FAST unit on scene initially. But as soon as we have the designated unti on scene, ready to go, that unit should remain as assigned. The fine line questions are "how long will it take the inital FAST / RIT to get here" and "If I put them to work, how long will it take for another unit to arrive"? Well my answer to that is a department should fill out their assignment for an alarm, order a FAST / RIT unit and an additional resourse comany to be utilized for manpower. Just remember, if you request it, they will come.
  14. Your know Reliance, that doesn't surprise me one bit.
  15. Its a Schwing Boom, and they are available for fire service. Several industrial departments have ordered them. They area very useful. Here's a link to Carlstadt FD with their Schwing. http://www.carlstadtfd.org/truck1.htm
  16. Its the business end of things. When Freightliner (Dailmer-Benz) sold ALF to thier new owners, a lot of the record for inventory to say the least was "closed out" and "unaccessable" to say the least. That is why hey are in such a hole right now. The transition was not smooth at all. As for E-One, I don't have the foggiest idea why they are hurting so much. Has to be with Federal Signal really not paying much attention to them (speculation only). I hate to say it I think we are head back to what was happening during the mid 80s to early nineties when all those great companies Like Mack stopped producing full trucks and those closing up forever Like Hahn, Maxim, Ward LaFrance, ect...........
  17. Chief, as a person who was the company captain when we ordered my company's truck and had a very good relationship with our city aldermen, commissioners and apportionment board, I feel for you. As I said in my previous post, I can't believe the purchasing agents from your town / village government did this and especially from your post didn't consult you on the purchase. I hoep things work out for the best and your department gets through this and get the truck you need.
  18. All of us are electronic buffs out there whether we use a scanner, camera or any other device. I want to share my screw up with you, which actually happened today. I own a Uniden Bearcat 396T hand held scanner. Now it requires a 6 volt, 800 milliamp connection to charge it. While in my car, the scanner's rechargeable batteries were dying so I went to plug it in to charge it. The problem was instead of using my 6 volt car adapter, I grabbed the 12 volt one that I use for another device. And this is what happened: The first picture shows a blown transistor / resistor towards the bottom of the screen. If you look and see the one towards the top that had a silver line and has 100 10V printed on it, the one blown is below it (the same type of circuit). The second picture shows the cover that was over the circuit board and has the pieces of the chip that was blown and the stain it left on the inside of the cover. When it blew, there was the ominous blue smoke that us techies are afraid of and that peculiar electronics burning smell. So, be careful with your electronics, I usually am but this time I wasn't.
  19. I've never heard any government agency or governing district agency not purchasing a bond on a capital expenditure. This really puts IFD in a bind now and hopefully they will get their truck. Got to love government.
  20. ALS, This was not the video but there was one from northwestern CT that was really discussed on here, similar instance. But anyway this is another example of blatant stupidity and God forbid something went wrong.........well I'll leave it at that.
  21. You spying on me again?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
  22. The admins are in charge of keeping up with the IT for the sight. (X635)
  23. You just hit 1000???????? And you been here longer than I! lol
  24. Yah they are boycotting and asking all firemen not to march in the parade due to the fight they have with the mayor and city gov't. But the problem is that the parade is not a city affiliated parade, it is sponsored by the Allied Veterans Association of South Boston and the organizers are not happy they are being the "scapegoat" so to speak. The article is on www.boston.com.
