Allan is correct and to add to it, some towns allow alternating flashing headlights as well as long as they have the proper blue light / green light permit. This was an act passed by the state legislature a few years back. However there was some controversy obviously with the state and local PDs about flashing headlights. In the end the towns and districts have the final say and very few allow flashing headlights, understandably.

WFD was jamming with that storm that came throguh. This was one of the buildings that was struck by lighting in town that day.

Only one decon trailer that I know of responded, possibly two. I know the Mohegan Tribal FD was requested as a FAST and they use their trailer prime mover as their FAST truck so its possible they brought their trailer also so thise would be the second one. The CT foam trailers also responded which I believe were three, one from Hartford, one from Middlesex County and one from New London County. I'll get the apparatus run down when I get a chance.

Just one bad day for everyone in the area. Just a note for all those looking and are not from CT. Waterbury is in the Northwest corner of New Haven County while Madison is on the shore line and is in the far south-eastern part of new Haven County, quite a distance from each other. Having that said this was the same storm line that came through and hit both areas. We got the storm out at Foxwoods not long after and it still had a good punch. There was unfortunately one death at the Madison incident, the four others are still in the hospital as I left work this morning and I know of one house in Waterbury that was heavily damaged by fire caused by a lightning strike.

JBE thanks for the information and as a dispatcher also I totally agree with you. We have a city that is 3 million+ full of residents and they want only one 911 call taker center? That's nutz burnout will happen too fast because they won't be properly staffed. Hope everything works out for the best man.

I had heard that Brooklyn was going to move into Metro-Tech. Has Frank Raffa posted anything yet?

We do not use it during an incident since the whole feedback issue. But when we are away from the truck doing a drill it comes in handy.

We had one outside my firehouse the other day also. Looked really cool, haven;t seen a double in a while.

You know I read your post wrong Monty, sorry about that. If it under the "Local Forums" where you were trying to post like the regional and National Issues, you should be able to post a reply there. Do me a favor, punch a trouble ticket for the help desk explaining exactly what you were doing and we'll try an figure it out.

I'm a member of the Ansonia Fire Department and know the person who was arrested very well (also he is not from my company). This is a very sensitive situation as we now have received a black eye. The fire in question was not far from my home and was suspicious from the get go. He's been arrested and is on $500,000 bond as the police report indicated. This has really hurt our department but even though all the evidence is pointing to him, we have to let the court system do ther duty. Hopefully my department as a whole can get through this bad situation. It just sucks.

Monty, You cannot reply to an incident post on this forum but you can edit your post. There is a section called the Incident Workshop where you can post photos and hold a discussion on incidents that were posted. This was done to keep the incidents alerts section smaller and also from preventing an older alert from poping up over a newer incident that was occuring. It is set up to act like a pager alert basically. The discussions and photos can be posted in the Incident Workshop and also you can create a link to the alert in your post as well. Hopefully this answers your question Izzy EMTBravo Help Desk

Shelton, CT PD has been having some major issues with their radio system for the past several years. WTNH at 11pm tonight is airing an investigation about the problem. Hopefully this will show the public the major problem they are having and make people more aware that this is a major safety issued for Shelton's officers. Many of us in the valley know some of the Shelton officers and heard the complaints from them that the radios in certain areas of the city don't pick up the transmissions from the repeater, ect. Shelton operates on a repeated 800 MHz conventional system for those who are not familiar with the city. for those who don't get WTNH Channel 8, their website is WTNH.COM.
-
The problem with the whole 800 MHz spectrum was that the public saftey section was split (mobile / base frequencies) in between public communications just when cell phones were a "luxury" item rather than everyone having them now. Since then and especially with Nextel with the IDEN technology, cell phone started to interfere with the public saftey allocation because their handset / base frequencies were right next to the mobile / base of publics saftey's allocations! The re-banding of the 800 MHz is definately going to improve a lot more and get rid of the majority of interference from cell phone carriers. Unfortunately there are other types of interference that will always effect any radio frequency. Shelton's main problem is that they are using a 800 MHz multi base voter receiver sites and a single repeater in a town that is about 26 to 32 square miles that is heavily mixed city, rural, commercial, industrial and residential. Thier problems are mainly topigraphical. 800 MHz is ideal for a bigger city such as New Roc, New Haven, Bridgeport, ect. The higher the refquency the smaller the radio wave. An unfortunate thing about 800 MHz in a rural setting is that even a tree leaf will stop the radio wave's progress of moving.

Come on, who would have thought of that!!! LOL I agree with you all, if your not permitted to use them under law then you shouldn't have them.
-
I bet you all its a copyright issue. Many ads / websites use stock photos due to copyright issues in fear of lawsuits, ect. I just had to do a whole presentation about copyright law in a class I took and many talk about buracratic BS. But you know what I rather use stock stuff then have some one breathing down my neck say hey that's my photo who's permission did I get to use it. On the other hand I rather have a local association using local photos and gain the permission to show that hey this site is about us.

I believe Butel does have a Mac software program but check their website.

I came across this yesterday on the www.nassaufdrant.com main page. Using a carpenter's metal square to gain entry by cutting through a outside door equipped with a panic bar (no outside handles or key locks). I have heard of this method before but never actually tried it. With many of us having come across doors such as this (ie casinos, movie theaters, indoor arenas, ect.) this would be a good method to know if Murphy and his law shows up. Nassau FD Rant
