  1. Your right, I checked their old website. Snorkel 22 became Tanker 22 and Tanker 23 was the old 1968 pumper tanker. I still think it was and engine first though. I'll have to see if there are some old pictures on it because the tanker on it was relatively newer.
  2. Thanks, I couldn't remember where it came from. All I know it was from one of the few "slime-lime" departments. Now their trucks are ripening!!!
  3. Try third life! NHFD has been an all Mack department for quite some time. Noroton Heights has had their truck refurbished quite a lot. They had a Mack CF / Snorkel which I beleive was refurbed into the unit you are showing on your link. Another one of thier CF pumpers was converted into their current quint. They purcahsed an FDNY Mack CF chassis and had Marion rebuilt it into a rescue pumper.
  4. The rig was purcahsed off of Long Island correct? Was it Lido-Point Lookout FD's old rig?
  5. The HHHL guys might remember my "famous" quote one day I was hanging down there coming off the third floor...... "DOESN'T THIS PLACE HAVE A POLE?!?!?!?!?!"
  6. I think the poster said "station 3" because he said he was a volunteer with Volunteer Co. 3 and was just referring it as their station.
  7. DFD, I agree 100% with with you about displaying the flag properly, I disagree with what the chief is doing because he has let go for 3 years now and now he is making a stink about it? Kinda set a precedent there. Now on the other hand, since both gentlemen are both veterans and both should know what the proper way of displaying our country's flag. This should have been addressed from the start and if it was a problem then it should have been brought up when the firefighter had the painting done and also should have approached by that firefighter's company officer. Another problem is that there is nothing (according to several articles and posts from other sights) what they can or cannot do with their helmets and I would assume this includes the painting of the crown red to denote you are with a truck company. Now as we all know the papers love to beat up the Boston area departments that is what they have done for the 400+ years the area has been a settlement. Also we all know the bad press and the lack of telling the complete story the Boston area faced lately. Another unfortunate thing is the act for displaying the flag, it has been improperly shown in different ways for God know how many years and its never going to stop. There's no laws pertaining to the proper showing, just the proper guidelines set out as you have made links to. Its never going to stop unfortunately. People are going to express their pride in the county in one why or another and nothing is going to stop them because we have the right of freedom of expression and people take that towards presenting the flag as well. Back to the main point, there is going to have to be some sort of overhaul of NFD's uniform / bunker gear code.
  8. Thank God! Hopefully they can move forward now and plan for the future with the rest of the city. Still a long road ahead.
  9. Read the comments, a lot of support for the firefighter who owns the helmet.
  10. I wonder if Yonkers is looking at my vollie company's rescue pumper specs. If any Yonkers FD personnel want to come up to CT to see our engine, I can make it happen. Its on a Spartan chassis.
  11. Help our brothers in New Haven out. Go to thier website for support information. They are also have a page on Facebook as well. http://www.newhaven20.com/
  12. We are going to do it again. Ansonia is holding Popcorn Ball Sunday on Dec 21st, an annual tradition that I hope never goes away. Always a fund day for members and the residents, especially for the kids!
  13. Just like everyone else says here, each department runs their own test. One way to get up to date hiring notifications is joining the CT Fire Academy list server as they publish an e-mail and list all the happening and also hiring in the state. I will get you the link where you can sign up for it. As for right now I know Greenwich had a test fairly recently and are working off an established list.
  14. I haven't heard what the flow is at the Stevenson Dam in Monroe / Oxford yet but I know that all of the gates except the flood slip overs were opened last night. I missed the announcement this morning of the FD radios along the river. (The Stevenson Dam is a power generating dam not a flood control dam.)
  15. The error was made by the City of West Haven who loaned all three fire districts money not the Allingtown Fire District board of commissioners. Now West Haven's city government has gone through some economic trouble with their own due to previous handling of finances, government transitions, ect.. The city lent each district $400,000 to help with the budgets initially to help out each district's pension fund. Well West Haven found the error they made in giving the money and wanted it all to be paid back. Well this really put the districts into a financial mess. West Haven Center is okay but West Shore was facing similar problems but were able to pass a budget. Also the pension plans from West Haven Center and West Shore are now through the state's municipal pension fund, Allingtown is not part of it yet. If you want to go to nhregister.com and look up all the troubles West Haven has had as a whole over the past few years, just search the Register's articles. I just hope that Allingtown's firefighters don't face layoffs.
  16. I know a lot of people ins Allingtown and having gone to high school in their district I can tell you that Allingtown Fire District has had budget troubles in the past. This is nothing new for them unfortunately. West Haven has three separate fire districts and over the years there have been calls for consolidation of all three (West Haven First, Allingtown and West Shore). This seems more of a reality in recent years but as we know this will not happen overnight as the city does not have control over the fire districts. Here is what I posted on another website: All three district firefighters are in the same IAFF local but each district also negotiates their own contract. Unfortunately this group of taxpayers think they know everything and they don't, we all have people like this in our own towns and cities. Its sad to see that these firefighters now have to worry about being laid off. Unfortunately if it doesn't pass it looks bleak for AFD.

  18. But if you are the MPO / ECC / Driver, what is your main objective especially being the first and second rig in? Establishing a water supply and a secondary water supply. So in that respect it doesn't matter if the driver is "suited up" or not, in my opinion. I somewhat agree with what you are saying though as it pertains to a manpower issue mostly and so be it, if that is the SOG then you have to abide by it. But a good number of the departments in my area have the the luxury of running with 4 people on a rig and the driver stays with the turck (1st & 2nd due). In the department I work for, we don't have that luxury granted we have a small response area. While I do wear my bunkers while driving, the engine I drive (a Ferrara Inferno) the brake and gas pedals are so close to the steering knuckle that a lot of the time my boot catches it or hits both pedals at the same time. As for steering the rig with my coat on, I don't feel safe driving my crew on a run and having my motion restricted if I have to take evasive actions due to another motorist not paying attention while they drive. I rather take the extra couple of seconds to put my gear on scene. And besides the person hanging out of the window is going to be seeing you turning on and putting on your SCBA, cinching it up, putting on your mask, pulling your hood over, puting on you helmet (again), putting your gloves on, clicking in you regulator before going in, ect. ect. ect. Regardless, its going to look like an eternity for them. You really can't argue that for a driver in my opinion. Robert please don't take this as a hit or flame toward you, I'm just trying to make a different view point as this is really a good discussion.
  19. While driving I believe that operators should not wear turnout coats or helmets while driving as it restricts your upper body motion while steering and also because of the lack of room. As for bunker pants, either or is fine but it depends on the type of vehicle and its setup. Some rigs with the way the new doghouses are set up you do not have enough room with your pants on especially if you are a bigger person. Also does it really mater if you gear up at the firehouse or at the scene? You are really not saving any time if you are the driver so we can throw out that argument in my opinion. I believe a apparatus operator should not be wearing restrictive clothing like fire coats as it is more of a hinder and a safety factor while driving the rig.
  20. I don't think they had it up and running then but I might be wrong. There are not too many Seagrave 70ths w/o the front compartment floating around. I think this might have been the only one.
  21. Try to keep it close to original as you can!! Good Luck with the restoration!
  22. Engine 4 in Southington is owned by Plantsville but it originally served with Company No. 4 in the Marion section of the town. Company 4 closed when they built the new firehouse for Company 3 (Milldale) and Plantsville acquired the truck, I forget how the story went. The "Squad 25" was originally Suffield, CT's old ring and Chief John (aka The BrewMaster) purchased it when it retired. As for Engine 15 from New Haven, this was actually purchased for the Fountain Street firehouse in the Westville section. This rig had a short wheel base and lacked a compartment in front of the wheel well so that it could fit into the Westville firehouse. The other white 70th is an old New Haven rig owned by the Montowese Fire Company No. 2 of North Haven and is lettered with their company name. Also too if you see the picture of the 1948 Seagrave Waterfall with "Hilltop Hose", that was first assigned to my company the Charters Hose Company No. 4 of Ansonia. A little history on this rig. It was ordered in 1948 and placed into service in April of 1949. It has a 750 gpm, pump and I believe the the tank held 300 gallons of water. Where the "No. 5" is on the front end was an old Mars osculating light and was later taken off and a "4" was placed on it and the rotating lamp located behind the seats was added. This pumper saw a lot of fire in its short 13 years at Company No. 4 and was replaced by our 1962 American LaFrance 900 Series (which I'm highly disappointed not seeing a pic of it here since we had it down there last year ) The Hilltop Hose Company in Ansonia was organized in 1956 independent from the city and purchased the 1948 Seagrave from the city for $1.00. The "Hill-tops" operated the Seagrave until its replacement in 1971 when the city purcahsed their Mack CF pumper for them (now retired). The only thing that looks the same from when we operated the pumper is the Maltese Cross on the doors. Unfortunately it has seen some better days and it is privately owned by someone not affiliated with Ansonia.
  23. Do you really wanna see my ugly mug? LOL
  24. Hey all, There is a virus / password fisher going around Facebook. Unfortunately I received an email from a friend whose account was cracked into (not a hacker there is a difference) saying "you look good in this movie HaHaHa!" Don't click the link!!! Unfortunately for me it was someone who sends me jokes all the time and sends safe e-mails that had his account broken into. My home computer is messed up so I have to re-install Windows and my anti-virus again. If you get this e-mail or others like it that state "You look good....." dont' open and delete it. Send your friend a separate message about the virus and report it to Facebook. Izzy
