If you feel that way then it should be addressed with the command staff and the city. When your next contract is up maybe you should all band together under good faith to discuss with the town and the command staff about establishing a set of officers for the career division. Make sure that all the logistics are in place and go for it. Since this would be an obvious change you have to get the local involved. Any way you look at it as well, if you have line officers, there is still one that will be the "shift commander" for the platoon. I can understand why you think that "shift supervisor" is demeaning because it has no firematic value to it. Also, with all your job title and descriptions have to changed, re-worded and accepted by both sides. This is something that will not happen over night. If its discussed properly by all those involved with the department who will be affect, not by anyone here on this board, then changes will happen.

Modern's Chicken Pizza is the best and for Pepe's you have to eat it there. Location yes but you have to remember that Pepe's has never been perfect either. Also if you want a good pie from Pepe's go to Pepe's the Spot next door, difference is that its not cooked in a brick oven. But any place on Wooster Street is hard to get into. As for Roseland in Derby, I haven't had a good pie from there in about 15 years and refuse to get another one there ever again. Seth, to get back on topic and sorry for hijacking the thread let us know how this new place is or if it turns out to be another Pizza Hut / Domino's.

Yes they do and I have seen it. You should too if you ever get a chance if you haven't. Usually they try to court the local departments around here as they just signed a contract to build a new pumper for Bethany, CT which is close to my town. They had rebuilt several of Shelton's apparatus over the years too. Maybe it was with all the orders they already had like you said but I don't know for sure. Our department deals with them for pump testing, repairs and some equipment. We started designing our new engine back in 2003 so I agree i it was the production time end.
-
Well I guess I'll have to throw out my flamethrower I bought to replace my machine!
-
When we were specing out our new pumper, I was quite supprised that they never courted us or submitted a bid. Too bad I think we would really considered them as a builder.

Hmmmm Colony!!! The make a good pie! I have been to a lot of places in NYC that make a good pie too. Nothing better on a cold day than a slice of cheese and a warm pretzel. Future, I feel bad for you since Mass' idea of pizza is carboard with Prego sause and cheddar cheese!!! Louis' Lunch (pronounced Lew-ie's) is the original make of the hamburger by far and thye have the gas broilers to prove it, three of them built in 1896 (I beleive if I remember correctly). Served on white toast with either a slice of tomato, cheese spread and a slice of onion, or any single or combination. AND DON'T ASK FOR KETCHUP!!!! Besides going there is all part of the ambiance. Any one who knows of New Haven pizza has to know of Frank Pepe's Pizza on Wooster Street, just down from Sally's. Mr. Pepe was the originator of the white clam pizza and why did he make it??? Because he was allergic to tomatos and cheese!!! Anyone who wants to come up and sample our fare, let me know, I'll show yuo all around.

If this was a civilian to another civilian then I beleive it would have been a Breach of Peace charge. However you cannot breach the peace of a police officer. I never knew this until a friend of my became a police officer and explained this to me one night. Kudos to the trooper!!!!!

I'll tell ya, GK has constructed some reliable apparatus bodies over the years as well as refurbs. If anyone has the chance to go to their open house definitely go. They are a great bunch of people up in Watertown, CT.
-
I don't care what you New Yorkers say............................. NEW HAVEN PIZZA IS STILL THE BEST!!!!! On the other hand, in New Haven there is a N.H.P.D. Pizzaria. They actually call themselves the New Haven Pizza Department and its actually a decent (not great) pizza.

AGREED!!!!!

When we went for a new engine at my company, the first time I was told who we were looking at I said "WHAT???" I heard the horror stories, rumors, ect. Then I started really looking into the company and wow, was I wrong. Another company the guys wanted well they were always being praised as the best but the department 2 towns over had nothing but problems with them and thankfully after some really hard pressing the MFG the problems were repaired. Everyone has to remember, what you spec out is what you get. You buy what you pay for. Also to everyone has to remember no matter if its a one-source or commercial truck chassis all fire apparatus are one off custom apparatus. The don't go down an assembly line in Detroit like the Big 3 and everything is the same. I've been lucky witht he apparautts that I have operated, our last truck lasted 25 years with hard service! I'm nor going to repeat what was said before by Seth and Bnechis because they already hit the main points. No one builds a bad truck, but if the design is bad from the get go, thenyou have a bad truck.
-
No, Mohegan is not in the same boat as we are.
-
No demotions, laid off, walked out of the firehouse, off the reservation.
-
That's why you have to hug up to the engine doghouse!!!!

Hello all. Well some unfortunate news at work, two firefighters, one captain and an administrative assistant were laid off as of this past Friday (the captain when he reported to work on Saturday). We are now down to a shift of 5 (4 on the floor and one at the casino in the Fire alarm center). We used to have 7 per shift (capt., sr. FF, 3 FFs, and 2 Fire Protection Specialists). The layoffs were for "cost cutting measures" as they were laying off people one again on the tribal government side. Some reading material for you all: http://www.theday.com/re.aspx?re=9eec004b-...9e-9b643c4bd8fa http://theday.com/re.aspx?re=b65d1134-5f9c...57-fd2d78f0822e http://theday.com/re.aspx?re=b56ee381-a3e1...e6-4aff2e9a807c

Engine 1, having either a single axle or dual axle on the truck depends on the gross vehicle weight. Most aerial device fire apparatus now have two axles to help distribute the weight of the truck while traveling. The original 75' Aerialscopes on Mack chassis only required a single axle because of the total weight of the truck. In recent years vehicle construction, equipment mounted on the truck, ect. have cause the weight to increase and so a second axle was needed on the read to evenly distribute the truck's weight.
-
A single rear axle??????? I have to see this. The refurb must be way under the weight limit.

There was another thread on a different board, I think on Ed Burke's sight that explained what was going on. I beleive they didn't have time to publish something for 2009 this year and also all the time and effort put into the book was taking the toll on the authors. Check over on Ed's sight, I'm only going off memory from what I read there.

They also boarder a good portion of Queens too. I know they have five stations and have a farily large coverage area.

Thanks for the info and corrections M!
