Yes Nassau County PD is one of the highest paid departments in the county, Suffolk PD is also close. I want to say the a new officer off training can make $75,000 w/o OT in the first year. I'm not sure on this amount but I'll see if I can find out more.

Tom started this site up a few months back when Scan60 was still up and running. I don't know if there was a co-op thing going or not.

Keep on listenting, maybe the front end of the HT's transceiver might be overloaded when capturing the signal. How old it the 1250, relatively new I assume?

Unfortunately it doesn't surprise me at all. Mainly because our service men and women are in combat and their mental health is suffering. Hopefully the armed services oversight committees will be proactive instead of reactive to help the mental health issues of our soldiers, marines, airmen and sailors.

Really laid out nice! Question about the Pioneer Radio, does it also have the GPS service in it? Good Luck!

Does the distortion happen at all levels of volume? Also do you get this distortion over a scanner or another radio at all? It could be possible that it is the speaker on the radio itself. Do you get distortion with regular voice? If it was a wrong PL code then you would not hear any transmissions. If you get the distortion with other radios then its the volume of the tone generator or problem with it. It could also be the transmit power from the tower itself. It could be several things.

I work with Chief Hennessy and Know him personally. I can assure you this, he will make sure this person will no longer be a firefighter in the town of Waterford nor in this state.

Some departments put too many lights on the front of their rigs and the way they flash reminds me of every Anime film made, then go into seizures. There have been legit studies about warning lights and the way some manufacturers offer flash patters its easy to blind someone. LEDs and strobes are the basis of this problem and the eye is only capable of sending so much information to the brain to be translated. More added lights to a rig can cause confusion when your eyes pick them up and basically "turn off the brain".

Hey Slayer, technically on interpretation it is a gray area also for CT law under the 14-296 statute. Its the way its worded that is the problem and installed if pre-existing on the vehicle (aka rear tail lights with installed flashing lights). When I worked at the CSP I asked a few of the troopers what they though and they had no problem with it (adding separate red lights) and said that the 14-296 statute covered you and could be used in conjunction with the "blue light" permit but not covered by it. Also you are suposed to have separate permit if you have an amber light flashing no matter which way it faces, but again II've never heard of anyone having problems. I've never had a problem nor have I ever seen anyone in the state having a red light flashing towards the rear. One interesting fact is the fire-police members can have flashing front red lights but they can only be used while the vehicle is stationary and not in motion. I beleive this is covered under the fire-police statutes set byu the state.

I'm not far from ARRL's headquarters but we were looking for someone pretty much from the Southern CT / Westchester area. Thanks for the additional information!

If it was the casino it would say "Mohegan Tribal Fire Department". To confuse you all too the Mohegan Fire Company in the town of Montville just down the road from the reservation. It might be for the MFC in Montville, I can check on it tomorrow when I'm at work.

What they fail to state in the article is how BFD responds to medicals and thier running rules. Ladder Companies and Engine Companies housed swap every other month as first out. So odd months (Jan, Mar, May, Jul, Sep, Nov) for example medicals are handled by the ladder company the other months the Engine company handles medicals. The last I knew prior to the crash this running rule had not changed.
