  1. Hey TL I still have to get down there soon, been busy. Maybe in a couple of weeks heading to Beantown this weekend to see the B's kick the Ilse' butts!!! Staffing is a problem still as were are running 5 per shift (4 on the floor and 1 in the FAC down at the casino). We went from 24 hours shifts to working two 10's, two 14's and four off. I know our director is trying to regain our staffing since the positions were not eliminated through my understanding. As for layoffs, well for now its seems to have ended............ This is a unique situation for us as we are organizing under tribal law, which for those who don't understand basically the laws replicate federal and local laws, without getting into a whole explanation of sovereign nation status (which I am not well versed on).

  3. I can't really tell from the photo but is Brooksville's rig have gold or silver leaf. It looks like gold, just curious. Good luck with the rigs!
  4. About 10-15 years ago a city next door to where I live did the same thing when trying to bust up a drug operation in a residential home. The PD officers had one of the FD's trucks pull up to the scene, they jumpped off wearing FD turnouts, said there was a gas leak or something to that fact and made the raid into the home. There was a public outcry of this action because it puts the FD at risk. In my town we have a housing complex where there was high gang / drug activity at the time and needless to say we got those "dirty looks" when we got called down there for calls for quite sometime. I do not beleive and support the use of a PD agency to "impersonate" another public saftey / public works agency to make arrests. This compromises all of us and now make us targets. I rather wear a big o' bull's eye on my back than have this happen.
  5. Yes Crimson is a Spartan Motors company. It was created with the merger of body builders Quality and Luverne (the latter built Chicago's pumpers for years)
  6. Guess they didn't read the 2 for 1 price special was no longer in effect!
  7. First off, what freqeuncy or frequencies are programmed into the scanner? Usually if its car to car then its usually VHF high band and UHF through a local repeater system, though HF and VHF low band are also possible. Maybe their repeater output is to high or its just normal bleed over between frequencies because you are close. There area a list of repeater frequencies for Hams over on radioreferece.com in the datebase. See how close they are. Also licensed Hams who operate radios / repeaters are under strict guidelines on thier power use, unlike CBers. PS I'm just learing this stuff since i want to get my operators license, I'm no authoritarian.

  10. I'm starting this as a spin-off from another thread. How should we as emergency personnel stop our vehicles from being stolen? I know the topic has come up a bunch of times especially recently with the taking of a chief's vehicle in LI on a college campus. 1 time out of a couple million calls nationwide we see that an apparatus is taken from an incident scene, sometimes right out of the station also by determined perp. What should we do about this? Not many people know about this but there is an item that is available for police vehicles that disengages the transmission thus you able to leave the vehicle running. Should this be installed in chief and staff vehicles? What about fire engines, rescues and trucks? How many departments have their driver standby with the rig? My volunteer department that I came from the driver stays with the rig however at work we "beach the whale" and go in to investigate due to manpower constraints, unless we are operating the pump / aerial. On the topic of ambulances, every VAC that I was involved with and people I know who worked for private services have specked out their rigs with a locking / unlocking system with either a simple hidden release button or a keyless entry pad. Should these be standard items installed now? We all know that apparatus thefts are few and far between, unfortunately they are seen more so now due to a combination of economics (people who really know the worth of the equipment on our vehicles) to plain stupidity. I ask this, how do we make ourselves less of a target for apparatus thefts?
  11. There has been a slew of emergency apparatus and vehicle thefts over the past few years. In Ct we had an ambulance stolen right out of the Hospital ER entrance right after they off loaded a patient. I believe it was Mount Vernon (?) had one of their ladders or engines hijacked while working at a fire in the past year or so. Heck a engine was stolen out of a fire house in Jewett City, CT and the building was locked up tighter than Fort Knox. It can happen anywhere to anyone at any time.

  15. TANK, bring me in!!!!!!! LOL
  16. So I guess Everyone that is old enough also forgot about Joe Rockhead's Fire Department then huh???? If you are too young to know what I'm talking about, look up the Flintstones cartoons. Let alone the vast majority of Warner Brothers and other old cartoons that did the same thing.
  17. From my experiences in CT it depends on the departments. For instance, if a fire department is a first responder or may provide paramedic service, depending on the department, the ambulance service may cancel FD's response to the medical. Certain departments though have it in their protocol that they have to obtain patient information because of a town ordinance or department policy. This is the case for medical calls only. As for fire or rescue calls (ie MVAs, confined space, hazmat) the fire departments in my area cannot be canceled by a separate EMS agency nor PD.
  18. Piraf, Spybot search and destroy is really good as is eveyhting else mentioned here. Except if the big hammer doesn't work open the window and through the computer out. However this process does not work if you try and throw it out of a basement window. LOL
  19. You have spy and ad ware installed on your commuter. Go to tucows.com and look for anti spy / ad ware removers. They need to be removed so that you can function normally. I have used AntiSpyware and other trojan removers with great success.
  20. Wasn't a GPS follower, just someone who is plain stupid and not paying attention.
  21. The only thing though is if that is a metal style lable, that would be from before the 70s. I think they were owned by Figgie then and I don;t think they were in the extinguisher market anymore or they may have been just getting out of it. I'll have to check my ALF book at home.
  22. It is but his "flamming retardant posting" protective hood is not properly tucked under his long sleeve anti-screen burn shirt.
