New England Fire Equipment and Apparatus out of North Haven is the SVI / Smeal dealer for New England and Western New York. We have a Smeal pumper. Seth, GK's quality has not gone down at all and they get a lot of work. Your not the only one that wishes they would expand ther facilities but who knows, maybe they will or they might just be happy with being a regional builder.
-
You have to remember the GK is a very small builder and refurbisher of apparatus with a total of around 30 trucks a year (rough guess folks). Also they have a huge repair facility which practically half of the departments in western CT contract them to maintain their trucks or do pump testing and also purchase other products they deal with. So yes that could be the reason why they might have not bid on a truck in Pound Ridge. Also it might have to do with what PRFD wanted for a rescue and GK might not have been able to provide that design. This is the same reason why I tend to believe that GK didn't try to solicit our apparatus committee at the volly house when we planed our current rescue-pumper. I would have love them to submit a bid and win it, but I think they had too much work at the time.

OUCH!!! RUST?!?!?!?!!? Well that right there is the problem. With that said man, its got to be both paint and the metal used. That really sucks. And I agree with the lack of customer service, seems like everyone is like that now, and I've been a Ford guy all my life (with the exception of two Hondas as secondary cars). Now with BMW, might I make a recomendation for you???? I would go with the 3 or 5 series!!!! The are one of my favorites. Good luck with the new car what ever you get Alan!

When it comes to vehicle paint, basically all manufactures use the same BASF paint product. You need to look there first to see if it is the actual paint itself (primer, base and clear coats) or if its the application of the paint by the manufacturer. Ford is not the only one that has experienced this problem over the past several years. Dodge and Chevy also have had the same problem also, as well as the foreign cars. You need to check the warranty on the paint that comes with the vehicle. If it’s only a 1 year warranty and it’s expired, then the manufacture does not have to honor it. On top of that, if the vehicle regardless of manufacturer has been altered / modified / customized by a third party (ie apparatus fabricator) they are held responsible for all the work they have done to the vehicle that might have an effect on the vehicles paint. This will void the manufacture's warranty.

I've seen this video before. An outside chimney is 90% of the time a non supported construction with houses like this. Even with modern construction today some of these are just ornaments to hide the chimney piping for a furnace. Despite if it flashed or a backdraft occurred, the pressure exerted from its shear force against the wall of the house cause d the collapse of that part of the "independent structure". You always have to look / take a glimpse at a chimney at any residential structure fire to see if its damaged or not. Its something that is often overlooked.

Sorry brother AJS, but this is more serious than using the "waist belt". When it goes before a labor board granted yes proper donning of SCBA is looked at, but what you say is only a small part of it. The problem is more than likely concerning the age and conditions of the SCBA and how that particular band is supposed to be used. Trust me, coming from an OSHA state (CT has its own OSHA office that exceeds the federal standards) the are looking at a wide range here especially if its under labor laws. Not knocking you at all but it definitely more that what is being described. But at the same time those employed at LMFD are going through the same staffing problems as other departments (including where I work) throughout the nation. lets hope the problems are corrected and everyone looks out for the future.

On behalf of Local 4746, we send our condolences to the family and brother firefighters of Patrick Joyce. May he Rest In Peace.

Good to hear that you guys have the truck!!!
-
Do they provide mutual aid as long as there is nothing going on at the complex and do they have collateral duties as well?
-
Far from it. First to have passed the CT health inspector took quite a lot of time. Remember this is the same health inspector's office that won't allow White Castles in CT (hmmmm). When he is cooking the truck has to be stopped and not running, just like any other canteen operation cooking and serving food. Also the exhaust system was updated. All of the cooking is done up on the hose bed area (the old tank was removed and a new floor added in). I actually tasted it and its not that bad. PS The guy that owns the truck owns a pizzeria that is in competition with "Mystic Pizza".

Nothing like "Smoke on the Water" in New Haven!

The truck in a Pierce Dash that saw service with the Noank Fire Company in Groton, literally taken out of service last year. I believe it was posted somewhere on here before.

Hopefully he found this!!!!

I was always told that George and Rich based it on the local Boy Scout troop number in Milford Center in which they were involved. I'll see if I can get a hold of George, Vaugh or Jamie and get the truth to the "Engine 260" moniker. But also going on what Howard said and knowing George's humor, I wouldn't doubt that story either!!!

GK makes a great truck and everyone that has had a pumper built or re-built by them have rarely had any trouble. I'm surprised they didn't bid out for my engine when we planned it. Hopefully they will have good luck with their new rigs.
-
Must be a new tilt-cab configuration like the pumpers? Do you think they are not ordering any more fixed cabs since the pumper specs changed? Should be interesting to see what the final product is and how well they hold up.

Engine 260 still sponsors a Boy Scout Explorer post. The engine that they have now was Bethany's recently retired Engine 82. This is a 1974(?) Hahn that was originally used by the West Haven Center Fire District as Engine 24 (might have been 25 not sure since they were twins). The engine was bought by Bethany around 1996/7 and was refurbished. It was replaced with a new Spartan / Gowans-Knight pumper and I believe it was donated to Engine 260. They have never been an active firefighting company but were / are sponsored by the Milford Fire Department. And Yes George still is very active with the organization. One heck of a great guy and if you ever go to the muster, you have to meet him.

I know where they are staying.....in KC!!!!! LOL Just ribbing you all! It's not that hard, I know a former player from KC who is now a lawyer for the player's union and is an agent. He grew up where I live, I went to the same high school as he and our families are close. I see his brother all the time around town too. He played 13 years with KC and 1 in New England before he retired.

I'm still trying to figure out why you all route for the "New York" Jets and the "New York" Giants when they play in New Jersey. GO CHIEFS!!!!

The last I knew just Truck 2 at Howard Ave Station to do being close to I-95. They used to have a tool on it. I think the Squads are the only ones now that run a full compliment. When I was dispatching, Squads 1 & 2 were the extrication units and Truck 2 was a back up.

National standard for the total time of a response starts with the initial answering of the 911 call by a dispatcher / call taker. Think APCO should look into this????
