Can't read the whole article since you have to log in to Rp-AM. That would actually be stupid to close another engine company down since part of their contractual agreement that passed in 2009 closed Engine Co. 10 out of HQ for the purpose of allowing the firefighters to go back to a four-shift schedule as they had been working a three platoon schedule for many years. Right now Waterbury only has eight engine companies, three truck companies and the rescue staffed. Plus the FD just added in 1st responder EMS taking it over from the PD.

Congrats to the bothers and sisters in Bean-town who have been working without a contract since 2006! http://www.necn.com/04/19/10/Arbitrator-awards-Boston-firefighters-19/landing_newengland.html?blockID=219318&feedID=4206

I'll see if I can dig up some old tapes of me when I was dispatching. I came up with some very creative responses back in the day.

Very sad. A lot of fire history was lost on April 14, 2010. http://www.mlive.com/news/jackson/index.ssf/2010/04/antique_fire_equipment_buildin.html

Hopefully you know the history of the METS colors. If not I will help you out!! The colors are closely associated with the two old National League teams in NY. Blue and white is in remembrance of the Brooklyn Dodgers, while orange and black is in remembrance of the New York Giants. Blue white and orange are also the colors of the NYC flag, being another association. Their NY logo on the caps is also similar to the logo used by the Giants in the final years in NYC. It cannot be confirmed or denied that the pinstripes were in homage to the "Bombers" but many teams wore pinstripes for their home jerseys back in the day too. Hope it helps you out, just wanted to pass it along!

I understand what you mean '85. Older rigs man, you can beat them to heck and they still tick! I'm surprised because the Smeals we have up here, including mine we have very good luck with them and also from several towns in NE (not all just like any other manufacturer's short comings). The only real problem we have had are with the ABS on the inside of our cab (Spartan) and a door handle flaw on the "buffalo" rear compartment (we should have gone with a different style in hindsight). What type of pump did you guys have on it? If it was a Hale I know that they had lots of problems with the packings for several years (we chose Waterous instead). I can see where you are coming from being displeased and it happens. Trust me though the quality is there and they are one of the better companies now out there. I know they have had some horror stories in the past but as I was told by Mr. Don Smeal when I met him out there, they will build what ever the customer wants or demands.
-
Have you operated a Smeal pumper or aerial before? I have and we have not encountered a problem with thier apparatus. Remember, what the truck committee specs is what you get.
-
They needed to change the logo, it was time. I like the new design.

I've hear of the company but never this type of radio. Seems like a modified version of an Icom or Yaesu HAM machine. Only one range of UHF, if you buy it and are on the 470 MHz your out of luck, no Xmit.
-
Seth, you have your HAM license yet?? That would be a good rig to hook up to the 2-Meter and 440-cm bands!

I can't say that I know what operations are out where you are but where I am, there are medic units (fly cars) that carry multiple sets for the purpose of just having extra. Though its rare, if a LifePack fails in the field, the fly car would have an extra just in case one in the field has to be replaced. Also, say there are two patients that require ALS, the medic now has extra set to perform ALS on the second patient who will be ready for the second incoming ALS rig.

You have any plywood? Get a decent size piece to place in front of the front wheel and get a smaller piece for the rear wheel and try and get a good chuck of rubber on it. With very little throttle and also some fancy clutch-feathering work, you should be able to get it going. Sounds like the ground your one can support the weight of your dresser. Also you may need to rock it back and forth a bit.

Someday I will pull off the greatest prank ever!!!!!

Just curious if anyone knows what's going on over with RocklandFires. Its been down for a number of days now.
-

Congrats Seth!!!!

I know the felling, that's how I felt after AHL hockey left New Haven (Blades, Nighthawks, Senators & Beast teams) and the Whalers left Hartford. I know we have two good AHL team in the Hartford Wolfpack and the Bridgeport Sound Tigers but its not the same as teh old-school teams that I mentioned.

20 years ago already?? I remember the day it happened, very sad day.

We removed the 46.200 radio simulcast / broadcast / X-Band link about 3 years ago when we relocated out 156.1875 tower to the center of the city. The main transmitter used to be at Company 5 (both 46.2 and high band) originally. We got tired of being dispatched by Nassau to "Box 6" all the time on a clear night, which set off our pager tones, made us respond to our Olsen (no not Ocean) Drive and came to realize it was you guys on the Island that had the job!!!
