i'M going to wait. I'm locked into a plan now and have no problems with the 3Gs.

Thanks Tommy, wasn't sure if that was the one they were referring to.

Looked it up and there was a fire this morning at 18 Francine Drive fire in an unattached garage type building. Is that the one you are referring too?

With the limited information that was provided, more than likely the investigation was going "outside of the box". In other words, it seems that if the investigations were allowed to continue, the members of YFD would be without any protection, especially if they were being falsely accused during the investigation. Usually with incidents like this, in this case the fire department chiefs and commissioners should be notified, they in return start their own internal investigation and the labor union that protects the workers has to be notified and work with the investigation. Again with the limited information here, it seems that something got circumvented in the process and that is why the local filed an injunction, not surprisingly as many labor unions would do the same. This would have been the same thing if it was the PD, public works, or even Sikorsky's employees being investigated. Since many members from YFD are members of this board, lets give them the respect they deserve, don't make pre-judgments and let the courts and investigations tell us the outcome.

New Haven FD just took delivery of a new Pierce Arrow XT 100 ft. rear mount aerial assigned to Truck 3 (Lombard Street Station). Just a bare bones truck with a pre-piped waterway that is only connected to the bed section of the aerial to lower the overall height of the rig do to height restrictions in its first due area. The rig comes with a detachable ladder pipe for use for high master stream operations. The new Pierce replaces a 1990s Seagrave 100' RM. http://www.piercemfg.com/DeliveryDetail.html?DeliveryId=d0f3f8fe-8a8f-466c-ab78-accb2eaff602

Actually there have been several XTs that have been ordered without AC. Both engines New Haven operates do not have them and there is another in CT I believe that was ordered without it.

Congratulations and may both of you enjoy the rest of your lives together!!

Glad you had a good time out at both casinos and won some money!!! Group 1 was was working days so you met up with Capt. Mark. I'm going to his shift in a few weeks when we do our shift changes. I am blessed to work with a great crew of people in my department, we have fun and all work together like a well oiled machine (the advantages of a small department). I would have been coming off shift Saturday morning but I swapped my Friday night shift so I could have it off. If I knew you were coming and was around I would have stayed to meet you. Glad you got some great photos of our rigs!!! Let me know if you need any help with the FAJ profile, I will get you any information you need. (Reminds me I need to re-subscribe!!) We also have a Facebook fan page, just search our name. Also did they show you the t-shirts we are going to be selling to help out the Local? To answer some questions about MPFD, we are a tribal government department that provides fire, rescue and EMT first responder for the reservation. The only things we do not do is first respond inside of the Foxwoods and MGM casino and hotels (security has their own first responders but we respond to the parking garages and Two Trees Inn which is in Ledyard which is not on the Reservation) and ambulance transports (provided by American Ambulance). Our per-shift staffing is 5 persons broken down with 1 Captain, 3 firefighters and 1 firefighter specialist. We only run 4 on the floor (yah I know........) with one firefighters manning the Fire Alarm Control Center in the Foxwoods complex to monitior the panels. The Firefighter Specialist is in charge of maintaining and testing the fire suppression and notification systems. We cover the reservation, Route 2 (Norwich-Westerly Road), Route 214 (Indiantown Road) and Shewville Road areas that boarder the reservation and tribal trust lands. We will respond into the Town of Ledyard District 1 (Ledyard Fire Co. area) upon request and according to our mutual aid agreements with the town, and vice versa. Fire alarm activations on the reservation are handled by us but a working fire will be dispatched accordingly to our run cards at "Station PQ", our dispatch center. We also are part of the New London County Mutual Aid plan and will respond with our tower ladder or an engine when requested. We were supposed to go to Norwich a few weeks ago when I was working for a old mill fire but the tower was oos, but the night before I was first due to a structure in Ledyard. We are also part of the CERRIT Team (Connecticut Eastern Regional Response Integrated Team) for hazmat. So if the "carrot is snapped" (NFD don't you just love that term??? LOL) we will respond with three members who are 472 certified and HazMat 17, unless F-27 and the Decon Wagon is needed. We run about 1500 to 2000 calls a year with most of our calls are medicals, hazmat / spills, AFAs and MVAs. We are represented by the IAFF and we are Local 4746, chartered in May of last year. We also have two Tahoes (Chief's and Dep. Chief's truck), a Crown Vic (Asst. Chief / Life Safety Educator), two utility pickups and a small pickup. And Spin, it would be in Wampum, not comps!!! jk

The firehouse is undergoing renovations. Engine Co. 10 was shut down about a year ago now but when Headquarters is finished, Truck 1, Rescue 9 and its Hazmat detachment, and Battalion 1 should be moving back in. At least that was what was talked about a while back, I don;t know if this is still the plan or not.

OH SURE JOE!!!! SHOW UP WHEN I'M NOT THERE!!!!!!!! What day did you stop by? I was off on a swap on Friday night and would have been there. But I decided to go up to Cooperstown for the weekend. I can tell it was over the weekend because my group just put the tower back in service this past week after being out for some repairs. Eddie, when do I ........ nevermind!!!!

SFRD18 - Yes the 1990 Seagrave will become Truck 3A, replacing the older Seagrave rearmount that was already disposed of. And yes it is an Arrow XT just as Engine 15 & 17's rigs. NHFD may purchase more rigs on the Arrow XT chassis but this is not confirmed yet. I'm trying to find this out. Huzzie59 - The price tag was around $650,000. Pierce out bid Seagrave for the truck, which NHFD runs two Seagrave TDAs. Seagrave's price was way too high (sounds too familiar lately with that company and its sad). M'Ave - New Truck 3 has a 250 lbs. tip load (the medium duty designation) and is used mostly as a straight truck. Yes they do have a detachable ladder pipe and also a "bed pipe" for this rig. The main problem they went with the "medium duty" is because of their response area. The Fair Haven section has a lot of low overpass height restrictions in their area (aka the rail lines, some bridges, ect.) With this, they could not go with a heavy duty rear mount as the specs had to keep the overall apparatus height low. Also remember, New Haven also runs 2 Seagrave TDAs (Truck 2 and 4), a Sutphen tower ladder (Truck 1) and a Sutphen 75' quint (Engine 5). Yes, New Haven is a city that does have a lot of jobs, however, their apparatus committee, chiefs and officers are very progressive and also looking for what is best for their operations.

Pizzetta out in Mystic, CT did this to one of Noank Fire Co.'s of Groton old Pierce Dash pumper. Actually came out nice and its a hit.
-
Which firehouse will it be housed at and will it be inside? I know TFD has some space restraints.
-
I agree with you! That rig better be coming in with a lot of equipment. When we replaced our well-worn 25 year old pumper with our new rig, we looked at Seagrave initially. Well it was around $450,000.00 without equipment. There was no way at the time our city was going to pay that much. So we shopped around and actually got the same speced out rig that we wanted for $120,000.00 less and knew it would be good for our department. Yes a lot of us wanted a Seagrave originally but in the end we still got a great rescue-pumper that has had only minor issues since being placed into service. But money and politics go hand in hand and sometimes you can't always get what you want and have to make sacrifices. Also, if the bids went out and Crimson met the specifications with minimum exceptions and was the lower price, well then you can't disqualify them. If they were then it becomes a whole different legal issue.

Okay folks, we have been all talking about layoffs, budget cuts, ect. .....but this is ridiculous!!!!! It's time once again to re-think everything we think is right or otherwise this will happen to us!!! http://www.firefighterclosecalls.com/news/fullstory/newsid/107913 Just disgusting!!!

One thing I did like the shout box for was the "Hey, what is going on in (insert town name)??" freed up a lot of the misc. posts for that and worked good for some one to listen in and start an IA up.

Guys and gals, To simply put it before we get into a whole debate............ CHECK THE EGOS AT THE DOOR AND USE YOUR HEADS!!!!!!!! Its that simple. A big mistake was made, a gun was jumped, a house was lost. It is not the first time or the last time any department / officer has done this. It will happen again, this time it happened in a town where there is a lot of media coverage going on about an existing problem. That's all I have to say.

Hey Ang, if you look on the first pick above the building, right upper corner, you cannot tell if that grayish blotch is a light haze of smoke or if its a cloud because of the overcast day. We always have to remember, just because nothing is showing outside, doesn't mean their is a surprise for us inside! Looks like PCFD did another fine job!

Hey I just heard over 46.26 that 60 Control was calling the county HazMat team for a response. Any idea where they are heading? Picking "60" kinda scratchy today.

Fire News has been around for a long time and John Galla (who is a member over on EMTBravo New England also) has done a great job with keeping up all the information throughout New England. You should check out his Navy section too on the site, which is where Fire News was "born" from. Anyone who has not stopped by his site should check it out when they get a chance!

I still say they should have released the lions....... BRING BACK NERO!!!

From "The Dude" to "The 'Spacher"........ I can get used to it! Congrats Chris!!

I know that ARFF apparatus are specifically designed with having 4x4 or 6x6 ect. But is there really an advantage to having a full size pumper with 4x4 capabilities? The way I'm looking at it is because of the added weight of a vehicle, added height, the possible false sense of going off the road with the vehicle, and so on. Granted there are smaller fire & emergency vehicles that can accomplish the same capabilities, but is it an advantage? In my town, the old Civil Defense purchased an E-One rescue truck built on a GMC 7800 4x4 chassis. Rarely was the 4x4 used in my town and over the years they had nothing but problems with it and also had to watch the vehicle from being grossly overweight. Plus it had standard brakes instead of air-brakes. What advantage is there?

Go here to their union website: http://www.newlondonfirefightersunion.org/ It will have all the information you need. If you do get on, expect to be assigned to one of the ambulances for at least your first year. You do perform fire duties though at calls. Working in the area myself, I do know a few members from FDNL and they are a great group of people. New London has 3 firehouses running three engines, a tower, a TDA, two ambulances, and a battalion chief. Currently there are 14 members on per shift, this is including the battalion chief. Good luck with the test.
