  1. In CT regardless if the building is owned by the city/town/borough, the fire company or fire district, a permit still has to be pulled for any major renovations to the building. If its some minor thing like removing knotty-pine from a basement wall and replacing it with sheetrock yes you can get away with out one. But as soon as you start changing the wall and floor plans, ect. then you can get into trouble without one. But your right, who would have though many years ago that what they though was a minor renovation / change to a room in a firehouse, ect. whould cause so many problems down the road? Back then, unless it was something major being done, permits were rarely pulled.
  2. So did I!! "Squirrel!!"
  3. So would this would be a bad time for Ren and Stimpy to ask "Would you like to buy a rubber nipple???"
  4. Just as the good Captain said in the previous post, there was a great turnout today at Lt. Velasquez's funeral. Unfortunately I too could not attend FF Baik's funeral but watching on the news there is still a great contingent of fellow firefighters in attendance. A fitting tribute for both men and the show of support for thier families, friends and for the brothers and sisters of the Bridgeport Fire Department.
  5. I took a ride down to the "7-11 House" and the guys are holding up well. There is a very nice memorial set up in front and around Ladder 11's bay. Also there are many chalk writings on the apron and on the bay floor. I was afraid to smudge any of the writing tributes as I walked over the apron to the bay.
  6. No problem Capt. The Stamford thread will be re-opened after the funerals and the weekend. We'll merge them into the main thread when we get a chance.
  7. Sorry about that Capt, had my information crossed. Thank you again for the correct information.
  8. CRK830 - Captain, thank you for posting the information. Also, I am still hearing there is going to be a public memorial at Harbor Yard Friday afternoon after the private funerals for both men. Information will be posted as it becomes available.
  9. I have not heard the offical word from the Bridgeport Fire Department nor thier Local, however it appears the wakes will be held Thursday separately and the funerals will be Friday. There will be a memorial service at Harbor Yard following both funerals on Friday. Further corrected information shall be posted when it becomes available. (Guys from CT, if you hear the offical word from BFD, please feel free to post it up. Thank you)
  10. Interesting find!
  11. Gentlemen and Ladies of the forum................ I think at this time with our recent loss up here in the Nutmeg State, I ask if we can have a moratorium of this discussion as our focus right now should be with our brothers and sisters in Bridgeport and the families and friends of Lt. Steven Velazquez and Firefighter Michel Baik. I know this is a hot debated topic but I think right now, at this moment we should focus on supporting or fellow firefighters In Bridgeport, CT for the time being. I pray this is something we can agree upon for the time being. Izzy

  13. I though the answer was "You know where Albany is??" and when the person said yes. you replied "No where's near there!"
  14. WTNH.COM (Channel 8) is reporting that a firefighter and an officer made the supreme sacrifice.
  15. If I am not mistaking this incident is not far from the Wood Ave fire station. Please keep them in your prayers. I know many firefighters in BPT. I will let you know more when I get any information. Sad day...........
  16. Sorry all, totally forgot about posting my pics. Steve's got the same one's as me except for the cheerleaders!!!! LOL
  17. "You may know where you are, God may know where you are, But if the dispatcher doesn't know where you are........ You better be on good terms with God!!!"
  18. It sounds like a similar problem we were having over on the EMTBravo West site as well. It appears that one of the advertisment banners it triggering this warning, which is common and both Modzilla / Google are properly reporting it, to to the script its written in. If you continue to have the problem, let us know. We will look into it.
  19. Windsor's new Ferrara Rescue Pumper was also there according to another board. I don't know how long it was there for though. The pic I saw it was parked next to John "Chief Brewmaster" Mayo's truck. (As for John's nickname, you need to come to the CT convention to know why!! )
  20. Just looked up on radio reference and the FCC database and yes this is the new Georgetown FD Meadow Ridge repreater. http://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/UlsSearch/license.jsp?licKey=3154281 http://www.emtbravo.net/index.php?showtopic=37772&pid=214509&st=0entry214509 (search under Georgetown and also Redding) This is cross banded to Redding Fire Communications 33.73 - WQUN666 frequency. All three fire companies dispatched by Redding also utilize UHF operations as well.
  21. I am not 100% certain but I beleive this will be the ops for Georgetown as Redding Communications is still on low band. Should only be a link but I will check to see what the story is.
  22. There was a city by me a few years ago (not going to mention which one) where they were utilizing a PPV fan while performing suppression operations. The building was an old commercial structure with apartments above it (if I remember correctly). Well the PPV fan was placed in operation to aid in suppression and there was still a hell of a lot of fire in the structure. Needless to say they lost the building as the fire was able to burn more freely with the induction of fresh air. I'm not saying PPV is not a great tool, it need to be implemented during overhaul after every section of a structure has been cleared of fire and not during fire suppression operations in my opinion. Though you can't really tell from this video due to the way it was edited but it appears that those on scene thought that the main body of fire was concentrated in only one place. It seems this was a complete state of complacency of those commanding the incident that the basement was the only location of the fire. As we know walls, ceilings and floors need to be opened up, furniture and appliances moved, proper vertical and/or horizontal ventilation performed, so on and so forth. Just because you don't see it doesn't mean its not there, always assume the fire has extended to someplace else. Heck, just imagine what would have happened if there was another area that was burning and ended up being starved of oxygen? Now introduce a PPV fan into the mix and bam! We just created a backdraft or flashover situation by introducing fresh air. Once you know all fire is out, then a PPV operation can be performed and the hot-spots can be knocked down. These firefighters were very lucky and yes this is a good learning experience for all of us on PPV operations. Never assume that the fire is out until you checked the entire structure. We have TICs and IR thermometers to measure heat, salvage and overhaul operations should be performed as soon as you believe the main body(bodies) of fire are knocked down. PPV operations do have their place but it seems we as firefighters and officers implement it at the wrong time.
  23. No I think they decided not to. I'll have to find the article that I saw or the posting from another site. As fore the Ferrara / FDNY, it did not go any further that looking. FDNY had nothing direct (that I know of) to do with Ferrara looking at this venture. However with that said the rumor floating around was that since Ferrara got the FDNY ladder contract, they were looking for an aerial building facility, but they can't since they have a contract currently with Smeal (who wasn't the least bit happy Ferrara's wining bid) to build their aerial ladders for them. I'll see if I can find it.
  24. Exactly what it is, a massive heart attack, a major myocardial infarction, total stoppage of the heart. The Boss has been ill for quite some time and his old-ticker couldn't hack it anymore unfortunately. Love him or hate him he did turn the Yankees around (and yes I was one of the fans that cheered is banishment in 1990). But he also did a lot of good for the community and with the public. I still say if he had owned the Mets, the Red Sox or another other team, he would have been the same way and the outcome would have been with similar results. RIP Boss!!! There is a calzone waiting for you!
