  1. The muster is Saturday September 11, 2010, same location as always. The CT State COnvention is the following weekend, Sept. 17, 18 & 19. The convention and the "Plantsville Tea Party" (the fun tea party, not to be confused with the poltical rally that stole our name) is on the 18th and the parade is in New London on the 19th.
  2. I believe Smeal also makes a 125', they did a few for a few departments in Canada.
  3. When I was at the function at Archie's in Derby, they had a great layout of memorial items. I ended up whit a shirt and a few stickers. They also had on sale memorial bracelets and they stated more would be made up. I have been hearing and confirmed that the BFD guys and gals will be at the Engine 260 Muster in Milford and also at the CT Firefighter Convention and Parade in New London this September.
  4. ALF back in its hey-day had 125' and 135', I want to say in the early 1950s they toyed with them but they never caught on. I think Chicago still has a 135' E-One ladder on their reserve roster too.
  5. Was this the same antique one of the members who was lost was trying to restore?
  6. I think the main reason was that all three city agencies (FDNY, FDNY*EMS and NYPD) are all on teh UHF band now for Interops. Or at least that was one of the plans.
  7. For being a fire department with a very steep and hilly terrain response area, they should have spec'd out the rigs better when it came to the engine and transmission. If the spec's were done right on the power train, then they shouldn't have had any problem, unless they got sold a bill of goods so to speak from the company. I hope they have better luck with this batch of new rigs!
  8. Date: 08/22/2010 Time: 10:17 Location: 309 Park Street (Crosses of Savin and Campbell Avenues.) Frequency: 453.800 (Med ops coordination on Med 8 - 463.125 with C-MED New Haven) Units Operating: West Haven E-21, T-22, E-23, E24, E-25, T-26, R- 27, West Shore E-31, Q-33, Allingtown E-2, T-1, AMR for ambulance and paramedic. Description Of Incident: Heavy fire in a 3 wood with exposure problems, fire throughout the structure with the exception of the basement, 5 lines in operations, trucks are opening up. Second alarm transmitted upon arrival with a third alarm following closely after. 10:44 - Command ordering evacuation of the building, WH-ERS transmitting evacuation tones. 10:46 - Setting up aerial master streams, command confirming all firefighters out before operations commencing, PAR being conducted. 11:18 - Members were allowed to re-enter the building, knocked down fire on first floor, went to work opening up second floor however fireworks began lighting off on third floor, evacuation re-instated and aerial master streams placed back into operation. Writer: IzzyEng4 Note 8/23/10 - The fire was placed under control at 12:02 pm. Aproxiately around 7pm West Haven Fire Department (First District) was recalled to the scene for a rekindle. The radio traffic during teh inital call sounded like it was a stubborn fire to attack.
  9. Went to Archie Moore's in Derby last night and there was a great showing!
  10. "CAPT!!! YOU TOLD ME TO NOSE IT IN!!!!!!!
  11. If things work out for me tomorrow, I will be at Archie Moore's in Derby. Hope to see anyone who can make it!
  12. You mean "The Phantom"???
  13. HEY!!!! I just realized that EMERGENCY! no one wore bunker pants or 3/4 pull up boots while fighting fires during the day-time!!! So not NFPA!!! ............OH YAH ITS A TV SHOW!!!
  14. I see from the inside pics they have the "helmet holders" installed too. Hope you all have good luck with the new rig.
  15. OOOOO!!! Its got a DETACHABLE LADDER PIPE!!!!!!!! ::::thumbs up::::
  16. Yep unfortunately, but its not a CF, its an MC (MR??) I believe. But still its a Mack. Also, no more "quint" for Rowayton??
  17. Regardless of mirrors, as an apparatus driver he should have done a check of the truck before moving it. Even if he told someone else to close them, the driver should always do a visual check around the apparatus, all sides before even getting into the driver's seat. Warning bells, lights and displays are nice but nothing is better than doing a visual check yourself.
  18. Ladder 14 is a good place, Skip Olsen who is on here works in that house.
  19. Unfortunately this is nothing new in Mass with laying off their firefighters. It is a sad state of affairs throughout the state. Of course no one remembers what happened in Ipswich 10 or so years ago when a family was lost a block down from the closest firehouse with one guy on duty there!
  20. Rule of thumb - Always look up before you raise and extend and always look everywhere when you move an aerial device. Just glad no one was seriously hurt or killed.
  21. Having an Squirt or a Snozzle (elevated master streams without an aerial device) are still a very good and viable instrument for firefighting in my opinion. They can reach down alley ways, get into windows of an upper floor, ect. to get at a well seated fire. Of course just like a regular aerial device, the operator has to know how to properly use it too. I love watching Bridgeport Engine 1 (Big Red) working at a major fire when they utilize their Snozzle at a job. Just another tool in the bag.
  22. I want to thank everyone here on EMTBravo for observing the moratorium of this thread. Granted this is a hotly debated topic about the City of Stamford and there are many, many sides to this issue, the fact of the matter with recent events gives us a stark reminder of the dangers we face regardless of our affiliations. I implore everyone here once again as we re-open the Stamford thread to be respectful, concise, and have an open mind with this issue regardless on what side of the fence you are on this issue with. Please keep this thread a "Stamford issue" and do not use or cite recent outside incidents / happenings that do not relate to Stamford. Keep the focus on Stamford! Again thank you all for understanding during the recent happenings in CT and for putting this discussion on hold temporarily. --Izzy I yield the thread to the Membership.
  23. Being "connected" to the truck is a little troubling to me. I rather use hand signals, wireless headsets or a portable radio. Hand signals and being far away from the vehicle in my opinion is far better. Less chatter, not being able to properly describe what you mean (aka say Left when you mean The Driver's Right). With better mirrors and also rear-of-vehicle video cameras, I don't think the need to be connected with a headset to the driver is really needed. And if you area a good apparatus driver, you should be able to back up a rig safely and properly without the need for a spotter, granted its is better to have one.
  24. I'll take one - extra mustard and onions!!!
