I got to operate a Pierce aluminum aerial during my Aerial Operations class and they are sweet!!! Little weird hearing a "tin foil" sound when operating it since I'm used to steel ladders but operations was smooth, set up was a breeze and just an overall well-built truck!

AMR in CT is based out of New Haven right off I-91 and is their dispatch center and New Haven Ops center. AMR also operates bases in Greater Bridgeport, Hartford, north-easter CT, Waterbury and Southington (aka Farmington Valley area). With that said more than likely there are more than likely transfers.

NWFD Medic, bad choice of words on my part saying "set" instead of "recommends" however thanks for the information that you posted with KKK standard. I couldn't remember which agency it was.

Capt, I never had a problem putting up a 24 ft. wood extension ladder myself though the old "the first number in the length of the ladder equals the safe acceptable number to raise it" is a benefit. And besides I have never seen no less that three or four people put up a forty-five or fifty footer at a fire and New Haven still runs them, granted they are now aluminum they still require the same amount of people to put it up safely. And saying you don't have enough manpower to put up a ground ladder is a sorry excuse for not getting one up, sorry but that is my opinion. If you need a ladder, a person can put it up easily, if you need a big ladder, then you get the people to do it. And a 28 ft. wood ladder is not even close to 150 pounds, eighty to 100 maybe by my best guess-timate. I forgot to add before too that that the best way to watch the video you posted was great to watch how SFFD operates and best if muted, kinda like watching those foreign channels with the hot women on them! <thumbs up>

You all didn't see Harverstraw's new TDA up there did you? Saw some pics and she looks great!

I never really saw the need why to move away from wood ladders. Granted wood and metal have their separate advantages and disadvantages, why wouldn't we use wood? Upkeep may be more and price may be higher but the longevity and safety around using them is a major plus in my opinion. Plus they don't ice up as quick with our cold winter snaps.

But EMS vehicles have their own standards to follow anyway like NFPA sets them for fire trucks correct?

Seems like every time that I go for an EMT refresher they change CPR.

Up where I am in CT we have Comcast. We lost Fox 5 about 6 months ago under the Syntax Laws where a local channel that has the same content can block another out of state channel. The problem is it was Fox 61 in Hartford that filed it!!!!!!! And on top of that, I can pick up Fox 5 with just a regular tv hd antenna!!! This really cause a lot of problems for us in Southern CT with certain sporting events (mainly football). We have two CBS channels, 2 NBC channels and two ABC channels (ct and ny based) but 61 pulled a fast one even on thier own network!!! Just can't make this stuff up!

No, the deed to rent Southie by Arthur Guinness' 10 times great grand father from Sasquatch. Unfortunately the deed was only for 9 years instead of 999 years.

Actually the Irish pre-date everyone in finding what is ow called North America along with the Vikings. The History Channel had a great special on the finding of America. The Irish and Vikings were here long before the first peoples crossed over the land bridge connecting Siberia and Alaska. Archeologist have been discovering a lot of settlement remains in Groton, CT area and other areas from Nova Scotia and New England that is supporting this theory. As for Native American Day, yes there is such a celebration, however it is usually only celebrated and recognized by the Tribal Nations. The tribe that work for (Mashantucket Pequots) celebrate their holiday around Thanksgiving now, as it usde to be sometime in August. There was / is no set date to the holiday to my knowledge. As for Patriot Day, I think as a country we should celebrate it like Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations (yes that is RI's proper name). We tend to forget about the establishment of this country and the Revolutionary War. Heck people tend to forget the Memorial Day was created to honor all the Civil War veterans, originally known as Decoration Day.

Lets face it, this is the nature of the beast here. The city is a funded department and those living in the rural subscription area have to pay for the service (aka they live in an unincorporated area that has no governmental control or services). Who do you blame, the fire department??? How about looking at the city or district that funds the fire department as they are more than likely the ones that set up the subscription based fire protection. There are a lot of these rural protection districts out there and that is how these departments are funded! We tend to forget how lucky we are having a tax-based system to fund our departments, funded through taxes collected by our fire district, village, borough, township or city government. Its the same thing here. Now don't get me wrong I feel the fire department should have done something, but if they did would they be penalized by the city for operating at this scene on a legal basis??? Before anyone jumps to any conclusion, you have to look how the department has to operate under the legal scope of the law they operate under. Maybe the unincorporated area should form a rural fire district or protection area and contract with the closest fire departments. And yes, and its unfortunate I have to say this, if it is in the scope of the law they operate under, then they don't have to act and are protected by that law depending on how it is written. That is where we should look first before we start making any more comments on this topic. Trust me I don't agree with it but law is law.

SFRD372 glad to hear you and your crew-mates are all okay. Speedy recovery for the Trooper.

Seems like this happened around 0200 this morning. Two engines had been operating on the scene, Engine 1 and I believe Engine 6, at a car fire. Engine 6 had cleared the scene while Engine 1 was cleaning up. A TT crossed over the lanes and struck Engine 1. Thankfully no one was hurt.

Okay, who let Moose come down from Upstate????
-
Yes he will be tried in CT as that is where the car was stolen. Right now its it's in JC due to his age (nothing found in the Adult Lookup online). With bringing the stolen car over state lines, that should constitute as Grand Theft Auto, evading, ect. ect. ect.

Only 15 watts for two base antennas but 60 watts for 15 mobile radios. If the bases only are allowed a maximum ERP of 15 watts that's not going to travel far at all.

Working fine for me all day.
