  1. I believe MFD employees career firefighters to operate the apparatus. I am uncertain of their actual career staffing levels as the department is primarily volunteer by my knowledge. Hopefully those from up north can elaborate more.
  2. I love the new Knox Boxes! Just have to punch in your "code" and the key is unlocked. No more calling dispatch to have the tones sent over the air. Also are there any shots how the radio console is set up? The Chief's buggy looks like is set up nice and neat and not over done.
  3. Only if you are completely original and haven't gone through a refurbishing!!! LOL!
  4. Joe we know the reason you are retiring is to spend more time in the new tiller seat on that new shiny red TDA!!!! Thanks for everything and it was great working with you! Joey
  5. What the firefighter there was doing was a very old practice not only just riding the back step. "Back in the day" when a unit was laying in and riding on the back step was permissible, a firefighter would ride the step when laying in to the scene, as it is shown here (notice the feeder coming off). But how many times in the past have we seen or heard of a person that has gotten hit with a butt flying off the rig???? Not safe at all.
  6. Nah, the people that act like that in Boston they are more like uneducated know-it-all college students. Remember the "beer summit"? 'Nuff said. The punk "kid" got what he deserved and FOX25 proved they are your typical spin doctor.
  7. It has just been announced that Stephen Hayes has been sentenced to death for all 6 counts in the death penalty phase. Now on to the next monster. Please keep in mind Jennifer Hawke-Petit and her daughters, Hayley and Michaela who were the victims of this horrible crime.
  8. What, be an ambulance driver? How about the driver of the Fire SUV? ;D
  9. The only thing they have to argue is that it not support of any one particular religion but to say they are using a religious symbol of the faith these troopers followed to honor them. If one of them was Jewish then a Star of David would be symbolized, a Muslim then the Crescent Moon would be utilized and if the trooper say was an atheist then a simple black bunting would be used. I wounder how that would sit in their bowl of Cheerios??
  10. Also is this the error you got? I got it when I was posting both of these threads on both IE and Firefox. The duplication is coming from the fact the post is being uploaded and you trying to repost it again, thus making a duplicate post. It sounds like something on our end.
  11. What browser were you using? (IE, Firefox, Chrome, Safari)? Can you try an replicate the problem again and write down exactly what the error states and post it here so we can look it up. This will help us a lot to figure out what may be causing the issue. Now try this to see if the error comes up again after you have replicated it. Clean out your Internet files, history, cookies ect from your web browsers, delete all offline content as well. Just make sure that you do not erase any of your saved passwords, ect before you do it, or make a back up of them. After which , do a reboot of your computer by totally shutting down the system, wait a few and then bring it back up. Bring up your browser and try to replicate the problem again and see if it is the same or a different error message. I could be that with the new upgrades, the cookies and temp internet files may be the leading cause of it since its "looking" for some script which may not be there anymore. After cleaning out your cashe you should not have the problem any more if its local. If the error still comes up more than likely its on the server end. Try it and let us know.
  12. Just want to verify this, there is a residency requirement at the time of appointment to live in the county or no? I couldn't determine this, I was under the assumption that yes you need to live in Westchester.
  13. Big topic on other boards and in my opinion, the perp got what he deserved and FOX25 can go shove it!

  15. Hmmmmm White Castle!
  16. Ahhhh!! Just remember "It's good with wood!"
  17. Happy B-Day Joe P.!
  18. Yes it is and believe it or not, wooden two section aerial ladders (the longest at 85') were built up until the 1950's, long after steel aerials were introduced in the late 1930s / early 1940s! FDNY was known to continue buying wood aerials along with steel aerials during the transition period. Its good to see that a lot of departments that operated TDAs either have kept with them or are placing them back into service. Nice shots Brian!
  19. Good luck to all and also to you my friend Chris! (Side note: I did apply years ago to become a dispatcher but had to turn the offer down due to certain circumstances in my life. Still wish I took the job!)
  20. My bad if I messed up, not familiar with what is out your way.
  21. If I am understanding you correctly since there is a "federal hazmat team" in the area, the county should get rid of theirs? Since I work in an area that has both a federal military sub base base and two private industrial fire departments (Electric Boat and Pfizer) I can tell you one thing, these departments are not required by their mandates to provide service outside of their response area (basically their property). They are in charge of their response area first and foremost and also they do respond mutual aid for the reason of begin "good neighbors". What happens if the VA has an incident at the same time (granted that is a long shot) on their own property and another breaks out in the county? You think they are going to drop everything and go to the other incident? No they won't because they are bound by thier mandates to protect their property first. Where I am employed, we are part of a regional team called the CERRIT (Connecticut Eastern Region Response Integrated Team) which is made up of career, private, private industrial and volunteer departments throughout the region. We all get the same training and also depending on our specialty service we are assigned certain apparatus and equipment. EB, Sub Base Fire and Pfizer are part of the CERRIT unit as they are well equipped because of the hazards they can / will encounter on their own properties. If there is an incident where I work and another the breaks out else where, well obviously we have to protect our response area first. Now having that said and not knowing how Orange County's team is set up, maybe they should look at creating a regional team to include the federal departments, as well as any industrial private departments into the fold. Anyone that has actually worked a wide scale HAZMAT incident knows it takes a lot of personnel to actually operate, contain and perform decontamination at these incidents. You just can't rely on on entity just to perform HAZMAT just because they are a federal department, have them staffed 24/7 and expect them to show up upon request. Basically a better combined response system needs to be put into place for the common good. Here's the link to the CERRIT site: http://www.nlcfca.org/cerrit.htm As for getting back to the OP, if this bias claim is truthful and the coordinators were actively discriminating regardless if they "were joking around", there is no room for that in this day and age. They need to be removed permanently from not only the county level but also from their home department.
  22. I totally agree with you 100%. We need to start being our own best friend instead of our worse enemy, especially when it comes to cases like this incident in Houston. The news only has one purpose and that is to sell news for a profit. A lot of media personalities, especially newspapers write articles for their own notoriety and make a profit. Or they just ignore the subject. Look at the Bridgeport LODDs back a few months ago to see how certain newspapers work. Obviously the Connecticut Post since its a Bridgeport-metro paper is going to have extensive coverage and also did a great job of giving both Steve and Mitch a proper firemen's tribute. Every paper in this state except for one had lengthy articles about the tragic incident, on their front pages. Then you have the New Haven Register, not even a blurb in the regional state section of the newspaper!!! The Providence Journal even had a front page alert of the tragedy!!!!. Needless today a great number of officers and firefighters from the New Haven area began lambasting the NEw Haven Ragister and initially their answer was well its not a New Haven area incident or news worthy HUH?!?!?!?! Every NYC news channel had it on their 6pm news and not this RAG! When the firefighters up here began tier efforts and made it known of the injustice this paper did, well they changed their tune quick. We need to put ourselves out there in a positive light all the time, we always advocate it but sometimes we do fall short. We need to stay on top of what they report and make sure we give them the correct information. And when they mess up (for lack of a better phrase) we let them know about it.
