Congratulations sir!!!

Chief, my vollie house has a 2005 Spartan Gladiator LFD 8-man cab with a raised 6 inch roof. We have seating for 8 (driver, officer SCBA, two forward crew SCBA, two rear facing SCBA and two fold-down standard seats). The cab has plenty of room to move in to get to a seat and is comfortable when sitting witha full crew. I'll send you pics to your e-mail when I get a chance from construction at Smeal. Here's a pic. http://www.nefea.com/Delivery.aspx?id=116 Pics from our site: http://chartershose.com/Gallery/tabid/57/Default.aspx

Phone cams will never be able to capture a picture that is good quality compared to full size or point and shoot cameras.

The show just intensified the history of problems the family already had before the show. Also goes to show that you can't / shouldn't work with family (in most instances) in the same business.

A rigid??? Well If I ride that one, I'll have to bring my "kidney saver" belt!!! LOL

Unfortunately it is a double edge sword while yes some think about getting their pension but others do think taking a "gold hand shake" will help others out. But that is the nature of the beast when it comes to layoffs and preventing them no matter what line of work you are in.

Hey maybe if this guy provided 60 Control with the information about Somers, then they would have it!!! It's not that hard, I was a regional dispatcher, asked for some information from my town to give to my boss and wha-la my dispatch center had the correct information!! Not that hard. Gotta love politics!
-
I was at work, don't carry it with me (picture that is). The pic was taken about 5 years ago (back when I was dispatching). The bike hasn't changed much except for taking off the back rest and rack, new mirrors, grips, levers and some other accents.

I have a 95 anniversary edition Sportster 1200cc bought it about eight years ago with (get this) 750 original miles! Got it for a good price too. Unfortunately last year I ended dumping it when I came a across a pothole in the middle of my line. Got pretty banged up but not to much damage to the bike. I would love to buy a new bike like a Softtail or a Dyna but my real dream is to get an old FXR frame and chop it out.

Nothing was more chilling than marching from across town and hearing the church bells tolling from downtown. I can't beleive it is 11 years already, seemed like yesterday when it happened. I didn't even know what was going that night until I arrived at my firehouse for a drill and everyone told me. About a month or two before, me and my ex-girlfriend were traveling up I-290 and saw how close that building was to the highway and also with the Foxwoods sign on top of it. I remember thinking then how old the structure was and that it had no windows. Not ever being through Worcester before, I didn't know that was a cold storage building nor would I ever realize what was going to happen a few weeks later. RIP Paul, Tom, Jimmy, Jerry, Joe and Tim .................... you will never be forgotten.

Connecticut is a entirely different beast when it comes to fire districts. First, a fire district is an incorporation by the state legislature granting full municipal rights. Thus when a fire district is created, then usually is set up like a town, city or borough chartered fire department, granted taxation rights, sue and be sues, and also allowed to establish any number of "companies" within the department as it sees fit to maintain proper protection. Technically if a city, town or borough has in their municipal charter the right to establish a fire department, then those boundaries are their "fire protection district" or can contract with a another fire department / company. Basically teh selectmen, aldermen, burgesses and wardens are in control of the overal makeup of what the budget is. When it comes to voting in a fire district in CT, every eligible voter that lives in the established fire district (like the three districts in West Haven) vote on the budget. Its not a done deal. Also the town politicians do not have control over a separate fire district.

All I have to say is when the heck are we going to realize we as firefighters need to stop being our own worse enemy???? Common really??? You are in the public eye, you really want to have attention drawn to you because of stupidity??? People need to get a grip and start acting PROFESSIONAL!!!! We all say we are but we sure as hell don't act on it!! If I was the village mayor and something that was inappropriate was on a chief's vehicle that the village owns, well that chief would be on "vacation" for a long time, pretty much until his time was done as chief and until a new one was appointed. If you want to get them for your own private truck, fine, not a government owned vehicle.

I do not think the Colonel is really considered a Deputy Commissioner or at least the commissioners were appointments by the governor who were not affiliated with CSP. I could be wrong on that. Colonel - Head of CSP Lt. Colonel "aka Light Col" - second in charge (I believe there are three LT. Col.s) Captain - District Commander [Western District includes Troops A, G, L & B, Central includes F, I, H, W and HQ and Eastern includes C, D, E & K] Lieutenant - CO of the Troop / Special Services / Asst. District Commander et. al. Master Sergeant - XO of the Troop / Special Services Sergeant - Platoon Leader (all divisions) Trooper First Class - ranking trooper with seven years of service or more. Trooper - completes FTO and has less than seven years of service. "Boot" - recruit That's all I can remember for the rank and file for CSP.

Keith, why are they changing? Did they want dispatch repeated too and having 153.77 as the output would cause interference or something?

Go back to the days of old.....no mufflers!!!

Go to the About Us page and it give the brief explanation: http://www.newyorkfirepatrol.com/About.html I don't think its be "shady" at all especially if its being spearheaded by Mr. Roma who has a lot of credibility! It says it in the first sentence in the first paragraph; "relying on public contributions and both corporate and governmental grants,". Like they say, they are still in the organizational stage, though they were able to get their incorporation. You need to be incorporated so you can move forward with any plans. Also they will not be integrated with the FDNY as the original Fire Patrol (which by the was about fifty years older that the FDNY) was a totally separate entity (as the Brooklyn Salvage Corps as well before they merged into the NYFP). Now if you meant working together, well like it says they are still in the organizational process, your not going to have an agreement with working with an agency until you have you set rules, regulations, funding, apparatus, housing, ect. The organizational process will take some time, at least a year before we hear some definitive answers. I hope the venture is successful and has the support of FDNY and the other agencies they will work with. Remember, the basis for a Fire Patrol is the old "sack and bucket" aka salvage and overhaul.

Old pic from 2006 and has been discussed here before. But still its a great idea from the guys over at Co. 3 in Commack! I'm not sure if they still do it or not but I know they did it 2 years ago. Al lot of work to make a red truck white and green. And also its done so that the truck remains in service and is fully operational for calls.

Having written a lesson plan on copyright violations form my fire service instructors exam, you need to make sure that you properly credit any article, photo or video when you post. Same thing with using handouts when teaching a class taken from any publication. By posting in a quote box the title, first sentence and the link, you are covered and are not posting without permission. Your are making the reader go to the actual article. It doesn't matter if a site is private, subscription or public, posting the whole article is in violation and you can be sued for copyright violations.

You hit it right on the head Capt! Pull the trucks out, set up inside the bays and Bam! You got yourself a good little fundraiser.

Anytime you serve food in a public place or at a public event, you need to follow your health department's rules. If you advertise for it and sell tickets to the public, then the fundraiser is not longer private. At my old vollie house, when we did a steak night, BBQ cook out, pankcake breakfast, ect., we are required by state law to have the health district come in and do an inspection of the facility. The rules are rules and despite them not being followed int eh past, more than likely it was a case of something happened somewhere else and someone got screwed, so now the health department has to step in. Even when we do cook-off in town or even up at Foxwoods, all food has to be cooked on-site per the health district regardless if its indoors or outdoors (with the exception of say breads and non-perishables, ect. of course). Unfortunately this really stinks for Piermont but I have to side with the health department on this one. Maybe if they advertised it as a "pot luck" they probably would have gotten by.

I have never seen that with a FD but I have seen that before with private companies. When I was a computer tech we got "birthday pay" at the place that I worked.

They say they can build a high-rise over there in 90 days, and burn it down in 90 seconds. Look at every building fire, demolition, construction project, ect that has happened over there in the past 5 years. You would think that after all that has happened in China with tragedies like this they would change their building construction and safety standards. Very unfortunate for the people over there but makes me feel better that I live in this country.

Are you asking for an upper age limit for a person to serve as a firefighter?

Thanks Andy for the info. Sarcasm there ffp20???? Not you, never!!! Hahahahaha!
