  1. JohnnyOV, I'm not a big fan of Sutphen either but it looks like their SPH100's bucket might allow for better access in and out of the bucket without the "step up" overhang. Here's the link to their website: http://www.sutphen.com/Truck.asp?truckid=1 Also with a mid-ship, you lose the scrub area over the cab but you gain a better lower angle over the sides, unlike you can do with a rear mount (I run a LTI 102' RM at work). Plus your positioning of the truck is better with a mid-mount as the turn table is "closer to you" when you drive. But your gonna have positives and negative with any style tower ladder, none is perfect. Also originally Sutphen's original platforms were designed primarily as a "water tower ladder" not a effective rescue style bucket as everything is designed for today. Almost every department though that runs a Sutphen tower ladder swears by them in my area. I think New Haven is on their thrid or Fourth Sutphen tower, plus they run a 75's ladder quint. TL14 is 20 years old and has a lot of miles and also engine hours on it by looking at the "for sale" add. I also think it goes with what they were used too. From my understanding, Hooks really utilized TL14 more than their sticks (the Smeal and even the Seagrave before that). I guess it would be safe to say (correct me if I'm wrong Union Hooks guys) the stick were more of a spare in the past when you place the Sutphen tower ladder in service? Maybe the sticks didn't work out for their operations as they though they would and rather make sure they could get a new tower ladder instead since it has reached it's 20th year of service. I'm only speculating.
  2. Not a problem at all with sharing, just double check because sometimes you might not get the correct information. Always good to check with multiple sources if you can. No one is going to know everything about a manufacturer..................except maybe Angelo!!!! LOL

  4. Damn!!!! With Willy I'm sure we could have gotten some old 3 inch with brass butts!!!!
  5. Ummmm, Sutphen does not make front mounted buckets (if you mean rear mounted aerial devices). The only make mid-ship mounted aerial ladders and tower ladders. Please check your information before you post something and make it sound like you don't know what your talking about. Not mocking you, just trying to make a point about geting the right information before you post.
  6. Looks like the angle of the picture that is making it truck / pumper/ rig ( ) look long. The town next to me had two 1981 Hahn pumpers with 1000 gallon tanks and a similar body style. I compared a old picture I had of them at the similar angle Mahopac's pumper is and they too look deceivingly long. If you look at the size of the compartment doors you should be able to get an idea of how long the body is.
  7. I know its an engine, but if its over 26,001 pounds and not in service as a fire apparatus, per DOT it's a "truck". And technically if its a "truck" per DOT, you need a CDL.
  8. Does the department still own the truck or is it privately owned now?
  9. Now I'm not supporting it or condoning its use, but I would like everyone to just read the wiki and following links on the history of the flags of the Confederacy and the whole controversy of them. http://www.usflag.org/history/confederatestarsandbars.html http://arebelflag.net/ http://www.infoplease.com/spot/confederate1.html http://xroads.virginia.edu/~class/am483_97/projects/sarratt/intro.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flags_of_the_Confederate_States_of_America From the wiki, which you will read halfway down: Also the flag being depicted is called the "Confederate Rebel Flag" this is not the "Stars and Bars" flag which actually symbolized the C.S.A. This is a mere historical look of it.
  10. One thing is for sure, no way, no heck wahoo we have our "On The Road" get together it this Finnegann's. But to help a brother out, maybe we should go to the Armonk or Thornwood establishments! And suggestions?
  11. 343 is a correct number!!!!!! How can anyone even question that???? It is the initial number of FDNY personnel that were murdered, yes I said murdered just like everyone else who perished on September 11, 2001. We shouldn't even be discussing this. Here is the list of those FDNY personnel who were murdered on that horrific day: http://www.fdnylodd.com/9-11-Never-Forget/Memorials/343-Firefighters.html Yes, FM Ron Bucca is counted on being murdered on that day as well. As for those passing from their injuries sustained from that awful day, they should be considered LODDs. It doesn't matter if it was yesterday or 10 years ago, these men and women that are suffering today should have all the benefits that are deserved. The other thing that all these "so called experts" won't tell you what caused the cancer in the first responders, it's "concrete poisoning" from the dust. And those tiny particles of dust act like our good old friend asbestos when it enters your lungs. Everyone was worried about the asbestos in the air, but that was a minuscule amount compared to the concrete dust produced by both collapses. Unfortunately there are going to be many more people suffering over the next several years because of the events of 9/11. I don't thing the initial numbers of those FDNY, NYPD, PAPD and NYFP personnel murdered on that day should be changed, the meaning would be lost. However I do strongly believe that anyone who passed from any sort of injury sustained on that day should be added to the memorial and listed as loosing their lifer due to injuries sustained on that day. Unfortunately, there never be an "end" number in my opinion.
  12. It's either a large pump or a extremely large mobile generator.
  13. If you go to the RR New York Thread, it talks about the new system on 700Mhz. More than likely its the new Inter-Ops system from the city and for the sate. But I could be mistaken.
  14. No, but you have to admit over the years there have been some nasty and unusual wrecks on the Parkway that require more than just a Hurst tool and a couple of rams set up on an engine or a truck. But yes there has been some truck traffic by those drivers who cant read the "NO TRUCK" signs at the Parkway entrances.
  15. What is the composition of the Asbury Park FD? Staffing, number of apparatus, ect. Also besides Neptune FD, who else do they work mutual aid with? Just curious, I don't know the city. Speedy recovery to the brother that was injured.
  16. Worked fine for me. I say Archie Moore's in Fairfield! The best wings in CT!
  17. I like the classic look to it.
  18. This is what happens when political rhetoric goes afoul and people tend to be lead by the old "Pied Piper" There are so many unstable people out that that take rhetorical words literally and take actual action. Rep. Gifford and Judge Roll and the innocent by-standers did not deserve this. Any rational thinking American would know not to go this far despite what animosities or heated differing opinions politicians, and also the way the media portrays them, may say. But Public officials need to be held to that same standard that has been in place since the founding of this nation and watch what they say. We do not need the 1960s political era again. I wasn't around yet, but I do not want to go through what so many here (and my parents) have seen. We are better than this!!! But then again as a rational thinking American, I think the guillotine should be brought back as a death penalty option!! Seriously, I hope they find the perp competent and be brought up on treason charges!!!!
  19. Stratford had placed Into service last year a Smeal Sirius pumper as Engine 1 and Engine 5 was a 2000 Pierce Saber rescue pumper. Both operated out of headquarters on Main Street. SFD had just gotten over a bunch of apparatus problems and not having a good set of spares, they are now using their two spares and the area departments offered assistance in using their spares if needed. Engines 1 & 5 did thier job. I don't think it would have mattered on thief placement as both TT's lost their traction while trying to make a lane change to avoid the accident. Let's be thankful that no one was seriously hurt.
  20. Get the Butel ARC program software for your scanner. It is the best out there in my opinion and well worth the money spent. The interface and set up is easy to use.
  21. It doesn't matter if you are career or volunteer, if you are a firefighter you need to be physically fit to perform your duties. Firefighters need to be able to pass a yearly (or bi-yearly) medical check up and also a physical agility, though not a CPAT. There are standards out there for firefighter fitness.
  22. I can see the headline in The Onion now............ "Man Jumps complaining of Lack of Trash pickup, Saved by Own trash!"
  23. I am not say it is not an important issue but obviously after 50 somewhat pages over what three years now, what is being done here? The same passionate rhetoric from the same people, the same finger pointing, the same territorial (fill in the blank), the same stuff that everyone has an opinion here and in the end what is going to be solved here......nothing. Its at the point where the City of Stamford, its politicians and its resident need to decide what they want to do. Do they want two separate FD's or one unified system? I said it before here in the past, its up to the town's people to decide on what is the better (or they think) how to spend their money for fire protection. There are two proposals on the floor, each has it's own argument, good or bad. I have my own opinion but I'm not from there so should I really say one is better than the other? In theory yes it maybe but unless its enacted then we can see the results. Heck, the other may have to be enacted first so the latter could be acted upon, who knows right???? As for looking at this thread, I will continue to look at it as it is one of my responsibilities to make sure to the discussion stays within a respectful tone. That is my job, but also as a member here just like everyone else I have the right to chime is and say "Hey haven't we beaten a Dead Horse again?". I think its time again to look at this thread from the beginning when it was first started and look how many of the same arguments have been revisited over and over again. With that said however, to update on the progress of the merger or creation of two separate departments without comments from "the peanut gallery" (we are all part of it including myself) its time to move on. This should not be battled here but in Stamford City Hall. But like I have said in the past, that is my view of this thread, it had just ran its course. I just hope the residents of Stamford get the proper fire and emergency protection they deserve and want without prejudice. It just seems the wounds are getting too deep down there for all of you and no resolve well ever be obtained. I hope I am so wrong with that last statement. I wanted to touch on this since I have been a member of the Ansonia Fire Department for close to 20 years now and served as a line officer for Charters Hose and know how all the area departments operate. The question you pose is unrealistic as per our running rules and mutual aid agreements and of course, one town is responding into another town. Ansonia's chief (or line officer for that matter) would never be canceled enroute just because Seymour has a chief there in his own town and is using out-of-town units. If Ansonia's units are in another town, a chief officer from that department has to be on-scene. But with over looking that and focusing on Ansonia's crew members yes the Ansonia chief officers is responsible for his/her members but ultimately the responsibility still falls on the Seymour Chief as he/she is in control of the incident. But I see where you are getting at, it would be ill advised for the Seymour Chief to cancel the Ansonia Chief, but still the responsibility of personnel still falls on the chief of the agency that is requesting it.
