  1. Mark, I deleted out the blank posts in the thread for you. The new truck is coming along nicely.
  2. All packages that were left at the race are being considered suspicious just in case.
  3. The was one explosion at the fishing line, the second occurred ifo the Lenox Hotel up the street. There is beleived to be and being reported that two more unexplored devices found and being dismantled - this last bit is not confirmed as if yet but sounding like on the scanners. Also a friend of mine who was up there at the finish line area is okay and accounted for.
  4. Not really but you have to remember fire apparatus age doesn't really go by "road miles". We are more concerned with "engine hours of operation". Since all apparatus have some sort of power take off from the engine to operate a ladder's components, a fire pump, or a generator, those engine hours can translate into road miles for the engine and transmission. For example my old pumper at my vollie house, a 1981 American LaFrance Century 1250 pumper had only 9800 road miles on it when it went out of service in 2006 (25 years of operation). Its engine hours was up over 20,000 and the pump hours of running was about 18,000. So if you do some calculations, basically you have a truck that ran an equivilant of 20,000+ road miles just by figuring in the pump and engine hours. I know this is not the best explination but I hope it somewhat makes sense.
  5. Do you really have to go there??? MOD REVIEW!!! LOL
  6. Pretty much like you said. Unfortunately there were a lot of other posts prior to the site being down that got lost as well concerning this "lawsuit". Still be interesting to see how all things once again play out since they have to be told to do what they are supposed to be doing anyway.
  7. M'Ave, I'm sure the FDNY apparatus guys and gals will keep an eye on the building process since KME is a new vendor for the city. Hopefully the quality will be there and they won't cause too many problems for the shops and the companies that operate them. Boston is running a few KME pumpers now as well as a few other major MA cities. I know Boston released specifications for a KME aerial recently. But like any other manufacturer, either you'll love them or hate them. Good luck with them and keep us up to date with the progress.
  8. If I remember correctly with the last specification order of new standard pumpers, they were all to have 2000 gpm pumps on them. I know it was stated in a past FAJ issue. I'll see if I can find what issue I read it in.
  9. You all need to read this. This is why you don't publish certain things!!!! http://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/01/04/law-enforcement-latest-critics-on-public-display-gun-owner-data-officers/ http://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/01/04/ex-burglars-say-newspapers-gun-map-wouldve-made-job-easier-safer/
  10. Just so everyone knows, there was a question if the t-shirt sale ad was legit. I just spoke with one of the members at the P.B.F.D. and it is correct and not a scam. I explained who I was and wanted to make sure that this was their effort and not anyone else trying to take funds away from them. They have it posted on their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/PointBreezeVFD?ref=ts&fref=ts Also there may be some confusion about the name of their department, it is in fact the Point Breeze fire Department is their proper name and they are located in Breezey Point, Queens. Thanks to the members for watching out for everyone!
  11. "I'm in Hot Pursuit!"
  12. You have the "mobile" site link that is why it didn't embed. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesnt from a mobile device. I have the same problems from time to time. Good video though!
  13. Don't hold me to this (not a member there) but I had though in another thread this was replacing the Dash pumper.
  14. It's very embarrassing for this department. Every vacant or unoccupied building should be considered occupied upon arrival and until the last unit or fire investigative team leaves. Years ago there was a fatal fire in a neighboring town from me, they new they still had an occupant in the building but they could not find his remains. There was also talk that he was out of town. But the FD and FMO remained on scene and finally they were able to locate the person's corpse though it was severely unrecognizable. Primary and secondary searches are for the initial part of any emergency call (fires, MVAs with ejections, ect.) but you should be searching during overhaul for human remains if there is any possible fatality. And like everyone stated above more training is needed for firefighters with this and preservation of evidence.
  15. Heheheh you said "Ragister!" It's unfortunate but there is a lot of back and forth going on this. we'll see how it pans our. It just sucks for the Inspectors who need their cars to respond from a call from home now have to travel to HQ to get it even if they are passing the fire / emergency scene. We shall see what comes of this in the next few months. And the new New Haven Avenue eastside fire station is still not open as of yet the last I knew.
  16. Rob, did the engine come with 4 doors when it was ordered or where they retrofitted?
  17. I just read again this time involving FDNY Ladder 129 being in an accident. Too often we here if apparatus in NYC, Dallas, Miami-Dade, ect bring involved in MVAs. We as apparatus drivers are always taught to use extreme caution and vigilance when we respond with our lights and sirens activated and a good number of accidents happen at lighted traffic controlled intersections. So with that said, why haven't many departments start using Opticoms or the like to help assist in locking down lighted traffic controlled intersections to help curb down the accidents and near misses? Granted the driver of any vehicle is the sole person that should be vigilant about his/her surroundings and not be distracted (we don't need to argue that here again). At work, all out apparatus utilize Opticoms for traffic control so the apparatus gets the green light and the other parts of the intersection are locked down in red. This aids in our response a lot. Obviously these devices do not grant you the right to blow through an intersection with the green light at you. So what do you think? Should there be a push to have departments if they have a lot of intersections with stop lights to install Opticoms as a secondary means to help prevent apparatus accidents??
  18. Here's the deal...... If you are that upset about a chief's or any other department vehicle being someplace where you think it shouldn't be, then go to that commission meeting and make a formal complaint. Complaining about "XXX" department's truck was located "here" is not going to solve anything. You want answers go an ask the department, board of commissioners or the chief him / her self why the truck is there instead of here. This has been talked about so many times once again here it's beating a dead horse.
  19. The Esopus pumper was retired within the past 5 years or so if I'm not mistaken.
  20. The definition of a "Working Fire" should be any actively burning object that is or has potential to cause serious damage. "Active Fire" would also fit this. "Structure Fire" is more of a descriptive term of what is / may be involved upon the receipt of a call to dispatch, ect.
  21. Good morning! It is now 06:11 hours. In case you haven't heard due to the fact the NHL has not reached a contractual agreement so the end of the world was cancelled.
  22. The end of the world is coming! Last night while having a beer, the bottom of my glass fell off!!
  23. How much more can they cut you guys back????? Don't they realize they are playing with gasoline around a fire??
