As a HAM I am totally offended that you posted a picture of my well equipped Mobile Radio Emergency Field Communications Vehicle (Callsign "Car Lightning-Rod"). I've been featured on HAMSEXY.COM but this picture is before I added the all important CERT, ARES and SKYWARN reflective id signs on my vehicle.............. OH GOD I CAN'T CONTINUE!!!! Laughing too hard when trying to type this out. But goes to show yah when a good thing goes totally bad!!!!!

Hartford FDs VHF radio that is connected to their 800MHz trunked system is back up and running again. The Hartford radio shop replaced the old radio with a new narrowband compliant VHF radio. You will hear some lower audio from the new radio due to the narrowbanding if you listen through an older scanner or radio. The newer scanners should be okay and compliant with the split. The frequency has not changed, it is still 154.3100. Thanks to Keith Victor aka Alarmroom for posting the information up on a few other sites.

The department has a uniform policy plan and simple, just like every other department. Where I work we cannot wear a pink shirt or do red shirt Fridays. We have to wear our standard uniform shirt and a navy blue work t-shirt under it. That is our policy, yes we would like to be able to do wear the shirts in support but rules are rules. There are other ways to show your support like with a ribbon or pin on your shirt, obviously with permission. I'm assuming somewhere down the line their uniform policy was a problem and they began enforcing it. Also the quote "We were under the impression it was improved" pretty much can make you take it both ways; either they had permission to make up a shirt for presentation or they just had them made up and began wearing them with out proper permission. If there is an agreed uniform policy between the local and the management well it has to be followed. Sounds like both sides didn't follow up properly.

Wish I could have gone. My home town and a few in the Lower Naugatuck Valley still use the street boxes. Unfortunately I looks like the end is near as there is a debate if the horns will be shut off or not. Hate to say it but Hurricane Irene was enough reason to turn the horns back on so we all knew where the heck a call was.

Verdicts are coming in! Komisarjevsky guilty of murder, kidnapping and capital felonies so far!!!! http://www.wtnh.com/ GUILTY ON ALL 17 COUNTS!!!!!!!
-
The other trial they could not get him on First Degree Arson but got him on second degree arson. Komisarjevsky actually had gasoline on his cloths thus pointing to him he was the one that initiated the fire in the home thus being able to secure teh guilty charge on first degree arson. With Hayes, he did not have any gas on his clothing if my recollection is correct, thus why they couldn't get him on it.

Thanks Cap!

For the highway, hazmats and other areas of the town where there were long hose lays I believe was the original intentions. I have to search the forum archives when it was located to Norwalk. Unless Joe C. can explain the ET's use better.

Thanks capt, did not know they were that common out there too. Britt Crosby runs a great site with all of the Cape and Islands FDs (www.capecodfd.com) information and pictures. Britt recently retired from C-O-MM (Centerville, Osterville, Marston Mills) Fire District. Great site to check out.

I believe MA is probably one if not the only state that widely still uses on-call firefighters to supplement a career / combination department.

By the way the articles were written and what I heard on the tactical channel, I would guess she had to be 100 feet from the ground level base. The LT was coming from the ground level up and he fell approx 60 to 70 feet, he was on the way up to her but never reached her. One firefighter that was also hurt saw shielding the LT from the falling rocks after he feel and the 3rd FF was transported for other medical reasons. I'm only going off what I have read so far and the CTNOW.com interview. Good job by all involved and both climbers (the one who was stuck and the other one) have been charged with reckless endangerment and a also for violating the ordinance prohibiting climbing East Rock. Go figure both are Yale students (seems like the NHFD boys and girls are always taking them off that rock face).
-
The IA was here: For those not familiar with New Haven, East Rock and West Rock parks have steep rock faces and are illegal to climb. At least 2 or 3 times a year, NHFD has to pick off some one off one of these places, more so East Rock as its is pretty much located central in the city. If you go to the archives on radio reference, I'm sure all the transmissions are still up of the rescue.

So if FDNY EMS it required by their protocols to have turnout gear due to countless hazards at fires, hazmat situations, ect. they can possibly encounter, where you going to put it on the rig? In the compartment with the backboards, next to the size M O2 tank, in the patient compartment? There is hardly any room on some of the newer ambulances in regards to compartment space for gear storage. Yah maybe they were fine the past few decades with out running gear but this in now, ten years ago was history and you should learn from history. That's like say a cop is better off with a six shot revolver than a 10 to 15 shot clip in a semi-auto pistol because they worked fine with it for decades. Just because your agency is fine with what you run and how you run, then that's fine, also an opinion is fine. There is some things that other places that don't sit well with me either, but hey, that's what they want and need. However the City has their ways of operating just like any other agency we are all involved with. They realized a reason for the new design and maybe it works for them. Plus they are hell of a lot more prone to other hazards everyday the East Bumble-dump. (Sorry realized my spelling sucks still).

Bull is right on here. The NYPD guys were in the right place at the right time doing a drill when it happened. There has been other times nationwide were a FD agency had been at the incident that was a police incident and assisted them in mitigating the problem. Its all about working together and you know what, for those NYPD guys to dive into the water right after it happened you have to commend them. It all about helping those in need.

Interesting place for the Knox-Box. Looks like a well planned rig.

But that is why I do, I'm a biker and have been for a long time. The whole show was about building bikes, that was the original intention of the show. They have made some great bikes together without question (regardless if you consider them an assembler, builder or fabricator; there is a difference between the 3). If it wasn't for Mikey having that chance meeting with someone who was associated with Discovery , then there wouldn't have been a show. If it wasn't for the dynamic, good and bad, that happened between Sr. and Jr. then what would the show be? A lot of if ands and whats but unfortunately that is what made the show. Not the Fire, Police, POW, Jet or Black Widow bikes, the BS in fighting fighting took over and the hiring of a couple of not talent dweebs took over. Put Vinnie, Rick, Christian and Cody in a shop together and watch what they can do. They don't need a computer, that's not how Indian Larry or Dave Perowitz did it. I don't know about anyone else, but what if there was a father son fire engine / police car / ambulance building company show with the same dynamic as Sr. and Jr. I bet everyone a good here would be up in arms about them showing that dynamic and stating how bad it is for emergency services. It's kinda done the same thing for motorcycles, there are a lot of posers out there now because of this. It's one thing to be an enthusiast and appreciate the machines, its another to take on the life style "just because". But that is only my opinion. Have they done a lot of good? Yes. Has stardom tarnished their gem? Yes. The ones that lose in this is the OCC and PJD brands with real bikers.

How would you feel if your well known alcoholic-drug-addict father was never there for you or your family and you started to end up like him even before the fame happened???? You think you might have some pent up resentment? Remember he only sobered up when the sister was born and only a little bit after that Sr. and Paula split. Sorry this family was dysfunctional from the get go and Discovery did everything to exploit this. It's a two way street and anyone that takes sides on that needs to really look at every episode, including the one during the first season were Sr. and Jr. sat on the couch and spilled out everything, then again later on in season 3 and 4 (can't remember which one) when they had not had a major blow up and then they did look how bad it was. There are some major problems in the family and one of which is Sr.'s mind though on some issues. Like father, Like son.

Zico rack I believe, have to check the specs out for it can't remember off hand exactly. If what I remember is correct, the rack lowers the holder down over the compartments to a reachable height, same system as the ladder racks Zico produces.

Well I didn't know he retired. Thanks!

I have Kevin's three other smaller books which were well put together. I saw the new book and will be picking it up shortly. I've met Kevin a few times and is a great guy. He's a career firefighter with the West Shore Fire District in West Haven.

Were you following me the other day??? How did you know I was picking my nose texting, ect...damn I need darker window tint!!!!! Seriously, I-95 definitely needs something like this, I drive from New Haven at the Q-Bridge (Pearl Harbor Memorial) out to I-395 every day to and from work. People just don't know how to drive nor do the correct speed limit. Needless to say they stomp on their breaks as soon as they come around those sharp turns and walla!!!! Instant backup!

Boston has been first responder EMT for several years. When I used to take the test up there you would receive points if you were already a MA certified EMT, otherwise you needed to apply for reciprocity. As for these firefighters by my understanding, if you are expected to have your EMT and keep it, also you agree and sign your name agreeing to have the certification, it is called a condition of employment. If you do not meet the condition of employment, then your employer has every right to terminate you. If this was negotiated and is in the union's contract with the city, well there is nothing the union can do about it. If it was added in with out any agreements (either contractual or procedural) then the union has a chance to save these seven jobs. Unfortunately if there is some sort of agreement on the books the union will have a hard time trying to claim a "past practice" grievance. With out all the proper info in the article we can only speculate.
