  1. BFC I couldn't agree with you more, and it should have been the firefighter in gear duty to tell the other guys to back off, if there was no officer on scene. I know where this incident took place and I'll leave it as that for now, No need to start anything with anyone, but It should be a reminder this is how people get hurt. I would say at least 99% of us have at one time done something that we shouldn't have and we though at that time we were doing a good thing. I'll be the first to admit shame on me for doing something similar. We cannot be too carful now adays with lawsuits and such and just the hiogh risk we take now with the associated dangers. Remember to think before you do and if it is one of our dpeartments, we have to watch ourselves and do it right.
  2. Back when Morse Code was the means of communication, K was typed at the end of a transmission to signal "go ahead" or simply "OK go ahead" (similar to typing GA on a TDD machine for the deaf for all you dispatchers out there). It was to signal the person(s) listening that the senders transmission was ending and someone else can transmit a message. As far as I know, it is still used in HAM radio Morse code transmissions. FDNY kept the K from the old telegraph days as tradition to signal the "go ahead and OK" over the radio. It beats the old military "Roger, Wilco, Over and Out" during radio transmissions. Just remember 10-4 is still "message received" where as "K" is end signifying the end of a message. If there are any HAM ops out there, correct me please if I am wrong or stated it wrong. Izzy

  6. In my opinion, Saulsbury went down as soon as E-One / FSS bought them. They are / were a great truck but it seems they have more problems now. Sounds like ALF / LTI also. Just my 2 cents.
  7. Geezzz I guess nobody can make a joke here, sorry. Note the smiley face.
  8. oh the one in the sandles is the career guy.
  9. It's called two off duty firefighters from another department (no where near this town and they should have known better) that thought they were lending a hand. And to further make things worse, one of those guys is a career firefighter and the person who took the picture was not a "passing through motorist." And there is an ivestigation.
  10. In my department we had both. We recently went back to black. There is no difference that tan is cooler than black. The only difference is dirt shows up better with tan Color doesn't make a difference, what you have for the inners is what matters. I would wear either. "Leather Forever"
  11. Hey all. Up here in New Haven County, CT the numbering system for apparatus (fire and EMS) is up to the town or district. There are several numbering systems from station numbers first with the unit number second (or third in some cases) or continuous (Engine 1, Engine 2, rescue 3 Ladder 4 for example). Where I used to work, C-MED New Haven, all EMS comms on MED 10 used a specific numbering system to talk to us. The System has three parts. The first number designates the type of unit: 1 = First Responder unit or one MRT or EMT in an ambulance acting as a first responder only. 2 = Transporting ambulance with two EMT's or an EMT and MRT 3 = Heavy Rescue unit (both fire and rescue corps units, not used as much today) 4 = IV Tech rsponding on ambulance or First Responder 5 = Paramedic on ambulance or in Medic Fly Car 10 = Medical Doctor The Second part is a Phonic letter designation that tells what town or agency the unit is from. There is no specific way these were picked, here are some Examples Alpha = New Haven Fire Department Bravo = Ansonia Rescue Medical Service Charlie = AMR Delta = Hamden Fire Deparment Echo = All West Haven Fire Districts Kilo = Storm Ambulance Coprs of Derby Papa = Hunters Ambulance Zulu = Lower Naugatuck Valley Paramedic Service The third number is the actual agency unit number. So 2 Bravo 7 would be ambulance 7 from Ansonia with a EMT & MRT responding. 5 Alpha 1 would be New Haven Fire's Emergency Paramedic unit 1 There are 5 EMS regional agencies and each use a slightly different system but units on C-MED radios universally have a town designation to them (all of Connecticut's Towns have a tax ID number associated with them and are used by several police departments and CSP).
