I wondered where it went too! It was a good looking rig but weird with the Mack logos on it.

Yanks have always started slow and it's too hard to tell. As usual, they do better after the all star break and then it will decide what will happen. Who knows this year. We still need a bullpen in my opinion.

Actually the Super Tender had a rear driver's position to help steer the trailer while backing the unit up but later was taken out.

Yah Sutphen had built the tillered TL, but it never flew. Main reason was that the bucket doubled as tiller mans' cab. When you wrre using the bucket, the roof would raise up to about 6 feet from the platform. Really wasn't pratical to use up against buildings or trying to move the bucket around with the added height. If they don;t possess it I think it was scrapped. MFC If I remember right, it didn't tile 90 degrees but moved forward / back towards the steering wheel in the back (retracting) I also remember too that Sutphen made a pumper with a Mack motor and tranny and it had all Mack embelems on it but mack told them to take it off. I think this was done because they were trying to start a partnership and bring back Mack. Mack told them to remove all the badges off of it sinceit wasn;t built by them. Some department in PA I think bought the pumper.

That rig is about three years old. Was in Firehouse Road Warriors two / three years back.

There is brush firefighting gear similar to LA's. Look at what the smoke jumpers wear. Nothing worse that wearing bunkers at a brush fire, sparined my ankle too many times and too many of our guys / gals gone down from heat exhaustion, the few ones we got. There has to be a better way I think.

Our department does not issue new members new gear. When a full member recevies a set of new gear, out department re-issues their old gear to a new member. Prior to it being issued, the old gear is inspected and made sure it meets the NFPA standards still. By the time the new member is off their one year probationary time, they are usually fitted for new gear. Right now, we are currently issuing new gear to all fully structural certified members first since we have brand new gear comming into the department and are of a different specification that the old stuff. The chiefs and commissioners are hoping to have every member in the department, veteran, rookie or probie in the new gear by the beginning of next year. After that, they want to have gear fittings twice a year (along with quarterly inspections) and new members who have reached say six months in thier probationary period and are fullfilling thier requierments will be included in the fittings. One perk right now is for junior corps members who enter the department at 18, they are fitted for gear and return their old junior corps issued gear. Hopefully this plan stays the course. We have had financial troubles in the past wherre it prevented us from purchasing new gear. The city has done well now and is responding to our needs better. The powers that be realize that you cant put a price on saftey.

You pick the towns / cities when you are filling out the test information the day of testing. When you get the packet there will be instructions and town codes. Make sure you read all of it. Bring it with you when you test just in case. I do believe they supply the town codes but I don't remember. It will be all spelled out in the packet. I stay overnight up there that weekend so if anyone wants to meet up let me know.

What the judge say that the dump truck driver will have his wages taken out to pay for his car. Now that would be a kick!

CT was a state that issued CDL's to operate fire trucks up until 1996 or so then they change it to a "q" restriction, which I have. When I started to train they were issuing CDL's. There was a push for a separate licence for emergency apparatus only so members didn't have to go through the whole CDL testing. DMV came up with the "Q" restriction whihc states an operator can drive a 26,000 pound plus truck that is exempt from CDL program. Of course the popular and somewhat untrue rumor was that many CDL quilifiers were using fire trucks to get thier licence. The "q" restriction still requires the operator to be 21 years or older to operate a vehicle. The test consists of the vehicle pre trip, testing the air brakes, static corse (rodeo) test and the street driving test. There is no written part to getting a "q".

I tell you, I would not want to be in a "brush fire" out west. I use the quotes because what I am used to. Up here we have some hilly terrain but for the most part we can get to them by foot, brush trucks or mini pumpers. But when I see those crown fires out west it cringe. Some of the towns run old military jeeps, power wagons if weapons carriers. Some towns have the duces (stump jumpers for you NYers) but those are mainly up in Northern and Eastern CT. My town we do not have a brush truck but all the towns around us do plus we don;t have much open space left here. Have to say you guys ou there got brass, Izzy Homer J. 21 years of age to operate any fire department apparatus Must take the "Q" restriction drivers test (Q is the designation for emergency apparatus on CT drivers licences) Not required yet but it is strongly suggested to take the DOT drivers course set up by the CT fire commission. Must be fully trained in pump / aerial operations prior to being cleared to drive the apparatus. Not required but drivers are encouraged to take the NFPA pump operators or aerial operators course. There have been special cases where a member has a CDL, "Q" or military licence that equals the driving requirement set by CTDOT where we start training while the member is on probation. This is a very rare occurance.

I know that FDNY runs several BFU's in S. I. but something caught my eye on the incident pictures posted here. In one of the pics, it looks like a tower ladder had its rear jacks down. I was courious depending on the size of the fire if they actualy use a tower ladder during suppression operations at a large brush fire. I've never seen this done before but does make sense if a large volume of water was needed.

There was a lot of other PGFD photos in there. But point taken and understood. Is this person that used those photos from there? Anyone know?

Date: March 14th, 2006 Time: 2125 approx Location: I-95 Southbound in New Haven, CT on the Pearl Harbor (Quinnapiac River) Bridge Frequency: N/A Units Operating: CSP, East Haven PD, New Haven PD, AMR, New Haven FD Description Of Incident: An armed robbery occured on North Frontage Road in East Haven CT and the Mobil Gas Station off Exit 51. East Haven PD officer sppotted the vehicle in question and pursued it. The area is under heavy construction due to building a new bridge for I-95 when a CSP trooper was working the construction project. Trooper joined in the pursuit. The suspect vehicle hit several cars prior to crashing on the southbound (westbound) side of the bridge. When approaching the vehicle, the Trooper and EHPD officer were fired upon by an occupant in the back seat. The trooper was shot in the chest and in the buttocks, the trooper was wearing his vest which saved his life. The EHPD officer was shot in the leg. One suspect was killed, the other injured due to the crash. It is unknow at this time if the deceased was the driver of shooter. A New Haven police officer arrived on scene and transported the trooper to Yale-New Haven hospital. Both the trooper and East Haven officer are fine and doing well. Both are in stable condition. Writer: IzzyEng4 Sidenote: For those who have asked me in e-mails, I do know the trooper who was injured. When I get updates I will post them. I work midnights so I think most of you will hear updates first. You can check on the local CT TV stations for updates. (WTNH ABC-8, WFSB CBS-3, WVIT NBC-30, FOX 61)
