There is a training course with AED's for home use. People are "supposed" to take it.

The older ones are gonna have to be reprogramed with the new standard. Hopefully the manufacturers can do it.

Two way radios can set of the device used to activate the blasting caps. This was more so true with the older high powered two way radios. Its not receiving but the transmit side, obviously. Just rembember radio waves are technicly electricity. However with new technologies, the Mhz rates in the detonator devices are similar to the rates used in radio transmissions as well. Its the electrical current created from transmissions that set off a detonator, which are electric current creators / contacts. If you have ever seen a burn from someone who touched a anntenna while it was transmitting, it is treated like an electrical burn (FFI and EMT Basic knowledge base). Its better to err in caution. I attended a class a few years back and this was the answer given.

I have seen the PAPD tow units also have fire suppresion pumps and reel hoses on them I don't know if they are agent extinguishers or water. FDNYTrucks.com had pictures of these units under Other Agencies. I think the local fire departments, depending which side of the Hudson respond also but this I am unsure of now. Hopefully one of the FDNY guys here can tells us.

Great Job

Anything properly designed will be of use. I forget where it was, but I know a lot of pumper tankers employ dual racks, one for ladders and the other for folding tanks and hard suctions. One thing drivers have to remember is the "swing out" radius from stored to deployment positions.

I'll bet anyone $10 that Lifeguards and Marine rescue units with heavily visited beaches would look into this (say LA maybe??) If they do, I'll put in an application
-
There exempt??? I didn't know that one. We have the triggers in our new Smeal / Spartan pumper, though a pain in the neck it is well worth the trouble. Law is Law now, though I feel you should have a choice, there has been two many accidents not to put one on. But what strikes me more in this article is not the wearing of the seatbelt but the type of door latchs that is described. What I'm trying to find out is that if this is a new ALF or a refurbished one. I beleive that this is a new Eagle or Metropolitan rig but I haven't heard of any other latch problems thorugh the industry. COuld he have not shut the door properly and with that, no warning device stating his door was not totally shut??? This sounds like a major problem here and ALF needs to address this immediately.
-
GOOD CHOICE!!!!! Did Jim tell you about our pumper on the Spartan??????
-
When are they going to open one up for us EMTBRAVO addicts?????
-
Too bad they are not going for a tiller, Smeal just started to build one. TO HHH&H, members, our Smeal pumper is great, just like anything new a few minor things had to be squared away but its a dream. Please get the Spartan cab, much better than the HME in my opinion but also it depends what is needed for your specs. Jim Feehen id a good guy to work with, knows his stuff in and out. Good luck! How many manufacturers are going to bid on a Smeal Ladder? by ESJ1810 ESJ1810, beleive it or not a lot of other manufacturers will bid on a truck. When we went for our pumper, seven other manufacturters bid on the truck, though some did not meet the full spec but were compriable. Needless to say Smeal came in as the lower bid. However in the next town a few years ago, the ladder was speced to be a Semal, but Pierce matched every spec and came in lower than Smeal did. Competition is high

I found this on Firehouse.com and this is going to be a long legal battle. The firefighter was not wearing a seatbelt and I think that this might be a key factor in the case now. I'll post the article here and lets discuss it, especially wearing seatbelts. Izzy -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Firehouse.com Home > News Headlines Fire Truck Makers Sued in Texas Firefighter's Death Updated: 06-08-2006 01:15:28 PM The parents of an Amarillo, Texas, firefighter who died in a fire truck accident have filed a negligence lawsuit against the vehicle's manufacturer. The lawsuit, which also names the truck's service providers, stems from the April 23, 2005, accident in which Amarillo fire department's Christopher Brian Hunton, 27, died, the Amarillo Globe News reported Wednesday. Hunton fell through the rear passenger door of an American LaFrance ladder truck while rounding a turn en route to a call. He reportedly wasn't wearing his seat belt when the accident occurred. The lawsuit alleged American LaFrance LLC, Freightliner LLC, Patriarch Partners LLC, Dalmatian Corp. and DaimlerChrysler Corp. designed the vehicle with a defective and dangerous door latch system and failed to give proper warnings of the danger. It also claimed Amarillo Truck Center, a truck dealership, was negligent in performing service and repairs to the rear passenger door latch. The truck maker and the dealership did not comment, saying they'd seen the lawsuit. The petition also challenged the constitutionality of Texas' $750,000 cap on punitive damages in a product liability suit. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Antiquated head sets?????? BULL!!!!!!! Lets see, there is something else they could have used and are manditory for backups A HANDSET!!!!!!!!!!!!! The good old fasion way never fails!

You are correct. NCIC / III / Connecticut' COLLECT system, et al has to be on a separated server to prevent from attacks and break ins.

Oh yah, our warmup consists of four buds and hotdog....... at 8am LOL Mohegan got a great bunch of guys and gals who come up. But I don't think we've competed agains them in any of the same events in the past year of two.

That can happen with any p2p software but Limewire is more previlent to hack attacks and getting stuff through.

As of right now the Milford Muster is on. There has been talk that this may be the musters last year unless someone else will take it over. Of course, this roumor has been surfacing over the past few years and nothing has been confirmed about that. It's alsways the second weekend of September, right after labor day and the week before the CT Fire Convention. In the past few years, there have been more teams showing up but the vendors list has remained abouth the same. Usually this month is when we get out entry application and I'll check to see if it has come yet. My company is always camped out up the hill behind the grand stand. If you know where Lake Mohegan is, were the motley crew across from them! Come on over! Izzy

There is no where in CT that allows ride alongs that I know of. Most departments have stopped this due to insurance reasons, officially. Unofficially is another topic and cannot be discussed here.

Is the fire wall that you are using the one that comes with windows or is it an add on like Norton? MOST LIKELY, if your using MS Internet Exploder... I mean Explorer, it is more likely asking because you have recently udated to a new version of it though thier online updates. You can also check your firewall settings as well to see what it is set on and also your internet privacy settings. Make sure you download all the new updates for windows as well. To do this, when in the online update screen, select custom not express and it will show all the updates (you'll have to click on the left for critical and non critical menues) Some updates might have to be downloaded separately from the others so make sure you read the update criteria first, restart and then download the rest. If you are still getting the warnings then try using a different web browser like FIREFOX and see if the warnings still come up. You can run a spyware detector on your computer as well as a virus scan just to be safe. Clear out your internet cashe and history (just remember any website that you have saved your idea and password will have to be re-entered). This way you can see if thier is something bad that could be triggering this warnings. More than likely it could be your firewall settings that windows defaults too. I know others out there have more suggrestions too.

I think for AMR to convert over to this type of Type I or III ambulance with this concept would be a financial disaster if done immediately for AMR CT, MA & NY. If you look at the entire fleet in CT for example, thye area all Type II except for the specialized units for larger patients or PEDI Critical Care units. I know that New Haven and Bridgeport has one each, 5-Charlie-6 and Bridgeport 7116 or at least that is what number used to be assigned to those units when I worked C-Med New Haven and might have changed since. There could be two box type ambulances for each service though, I cannot remember. Mnay private services go for the Type II mainly do to the fact is is a lower costing ambulance. If you look at AMR's fleet replacement, and I'm going to use New Haven AMR since I was more familiar with them, they only purchase approximately 5 new rigs every two to four years (this is an approximated time and vehicle number amount). It is possible to convert the whole fleet over with in 5 to ten years in New Haven when the life expectancey of the current twenty to thirty ambulances has ended. This would be a major decision to convert over to this style ambulance mainly to cost. The Type I & III style boxes are my favorite mainly because you do have more room to work. This would be interesting to see if AMR does infact go over to this ambulance when all the "kinks" are worked out. The concept vehicle still has to meet triple K national standards though as well. Should be interesting to see if AMR will stray away from the Type II's. Just hope they plan out the replacement rotation correctly.

Could this mean the return of the EXEMPT Status volunteers had back in the 1800's and early 1900's?

Misread the transverse aka in front of the box. Though still not a favorite position but usefull since you get more curbside compartmentation. My bad.
