  1. There a very few Mack CF engines left. I know that the salvage / Dewatering unit is built on an old pump chassis but I think that stored over at the rock. Most of the Mack left are towers. Also too, did they conver a Mack over to a hose wagon for replace the JFK Hose Wagon's Lafrance, I heard that rumor a long time ago or were they goiing to replace it outright?
  2. Hey when your new truck comes in, wanna try to get a side by side pick of your truck with our black over red Smeal/ Sparta LFD pumper? Might be a cool shot.
  3. The layout is OK but I still think that it needs to be "cleaned up" a bit and made easier to read. the wording is too bunched togetehre, but thte layout idea is great. Maybe a little more graffic boxes surounding the links or some different color schemes to break the page up. I know how much hard work you have done on it but I just don't want you to throw it away, play with it for a while and see how you can make it look better.
  4. HOOOOOWAHAHAHAHAHA!!! I saw them live a couple times, great show.
  5. I was contacted a while back when we built our Smeal pumper about the company and service. I assume that Smeal was looked at but I don't know if they went with them or not.
  6. How can you not laugh at Ross the INtern! Great vid
  7. One company in my town ordered thier current pumper w/out SCBA seats due to space constrainst in the rear of the cab (a late 1980's enclosed cab) and regret it since.
  8. The answer is yes. It was purley an accident and the section of road where Off. Picagli was working was a hard section of road. He also did not have his reflective vest on and was in his normal patrol coat, whihc was dark in color so he had no reflective gear on. I think that he has just arrived at the OT / HCP job site not long before, so he wasn't really there long when he got struck. The judge did what everyone should do, he stayed at the scene and got the same treatment a normal person would. He didn't even state he was a judge until he was being questioned during the investigation. If he ran from the scene and used his clout to get out of this, that would have been another story. The Judge was really upset about the accident, especially hitting a peace officer and injuring him. He is fully cooperating with NHPD CSP's Major Crime Squad out of Troop I - Bethany barracks was called in to assist with maps and measurments. (I was working that night). My info came from a reliable source. I figure to put this info I have out there to clear up and doubts. The Last that I have heard on Off Picagli was that he was still in serious condition with a several head injury and bi-lateral fractures to th elegs. The saving grace was that he was only blocks away from Yale-New Haven Hospital and everyone from NHPF, NHFD, AMR, Y-NH Hospital and C-MED dispatch worked hard and quickly to get him the care he needed. I hope he has a speedy recovery and pray for his family. Off. Picagli is well liked throughout the community especially with the kids he works with in the neighborhoods.
  9. East Haven's Maxim last ran as Engine 5 (Foxon Vol. Engine) before being replace by Ford / Pierce in 2001. The Ford Pierce ran as Engine 5 until being replace by the Pierce Saber. The Maxim was Engine 3 (carrer Foxon Engine) and I beleive ran as Engine 1 out of headquarter prior to that. I think its a pared piece now, unsure though.
  10. Matt, And I thought I was a big stemwhacker!!!! Good job again! Joe
  11. Too funny!!!!!
  12. I like the layout but I think there should be more tewaking to it to make a lot of the links and separations more eye catching. The color scheme is good.
  13. Ok thanks guys I guess I really never payed attention to the radio versus seeing it in print. Thanks all.
  14. I thought he was talking about inside of the building during overhaul. It looked like a yellow helmet but It could have been a well weathered chief's white. That's what I though he was talking about.
  15. I had recently joined the Yahoo Groups FDNYING forum and love the detailed updates and MDT run and radio transmissions on an incident. One thing I have noticed in the past few days is that many of the boxes have had a special call for a truck company to respond for salvage after a PHW has been called. Does anyone know if this is in response to NYFP shutting down or am I just noticing this for the first time? Anybody with an answer?

  19. Reprinted from 1stresponder.com NIAGARA COUNTY, N.Y. - The western New York’s famous lake effect snow bands again showed their power and fury. The snow belts mixed with extreme moisture blanketed the area with heavy wet snow on Thurs. Oct. 12. Throughout the night hundreds of calls came in all across Niagara County for trees down in the road, power lines on fire, power outages, and a few minor injury accidents. Niagara County's 30 plus fire companies had manpower standing by responding to call after call throughout the night and early morning. On Friday, a little after 10 a.m., a 911 cell phone call reported a head-on accident between a tractor trailer and a passenger vehicle. Wrights Corners volunteers were notified and en route right away to the 5000 block of Ridge Road by Coomer Road. Niagara County Sheriff’s deputies responded also. First on scene deputies requested the supervisor and ID. Wrights Corners requested a level four from Newfane, and Rural Metro Paramedic Fly car was also en route. They had a passenger car crushed by a fully loaded semi that pushed the car hundreds of feet off the road and into a field. Two victims were seriously entrapped with major trauma injuries, and the semi was hindering the extrication. An eyewitness said the snow was falling so hard you could hardly see and that the roads were slippery at the time of the accident. It appeared that the car veered into the path of the tractor trailer and was crushed off the road into a field. The eyewitness said he called 911 and then rushed to the victims. He said that they were trapped in the car. The dashboard was pushed down on their lower extremities. He talked to both and covered them up with what he had to keep them warm and waited for the emergency service personnel to arrive. Wrights Cornors equipment arrived on scene within minutes and started an organized extrication effort and also provided emergency medical care to the victims. Hard as the first responders tried and with the best use of the extrication equipment and advance life support, one of the victims in the car, an off-duty New York State Trooper, succumbed during the rescue efforts. Niagara County Sheriff’s Captain B. Elliot had the task of notifying the chain of command. Everyone at the scene hearing that it was a New York State Trooper stood in shock. The New York State Police have suffered such losses this year and now they have lost another. The surviving victim was extricated and rushed to Newfane Hospital to be stabilized. It was felt that he could not make the trip to the Trauma Center by ground and the weather grounded Mercy Flight's air trauma helicopter. Supervisors from the New York State Troopers started arriving at the scene and were filled in about the accident by the Sheriff’s Department. The driver of the truck was shaken up, but did not appear to have any serious injuries. The accident is under investigation.

  21. Ok Scannerphiles, I just got an update from Radio Reference stating that Uniden is releasing a remote head called the BCRH-96. It will be compatable with the BCD996T, the BCT15, the BCD396T, and the BR330T. It's due out in February of 2007. I have a remote head for my 780xlt installed in my '99 Mountaineer and its worth is so you can mount it anywhere. Here's the link to check it out http://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/BC-RH96
  22. you can get it from like the FIreman's Friend, www.fire-police-ems.com and such. The actual name of the book is Fire Department of New York, - An Operational Reference. I have the 2002 reference guide printed just after 9-11-01. I think they are on the fifth or sixth edition. It's a really good book to have for anyone looking to Buff NYC. And I chedked the yellow helmet are for auxiliaries but there is no explaination for that unit. However I think there is a section about them on FDNY official website by the city.
  23. If it was a yellow helmet with black gear it is the auxiliary / explorer unit. I forget what thier official title is. Look in the FDNY feild manual, they'll tell you about them.
  24. Time to strap on the skies, snowboards and get that snowmobile reasy!! Got to love the lake-effect snow!
