A FIRE DISTRICT is an entity that had a commission or over site board that have elected officials that come from the district. They are supported by taxes by the residents and businesses and property owners that fall into the district boundaries. There is no municipal or governmental control of funding. Districts may cover a small portion of area with in a town / city / unincorporated areas, ect. or include several towns. School districts and water districts are the same a district is not controlled by a local government agency, they have their own review boards. FIRE DEPARTMENTS are agencies that are funded by an incorporated government entity whether it be a village, town, city, county or state government IE Fire Department of New York, New Haven Fire Department, Bradley International Airport Fire Department (CT State funded). FIRE COMPANIES are the actual organized firefighting units of a FIRE DEPARTMENT or FIRE DISTRICT. They can also operate INDEPENDENTLY with their own means of funding and are or can be contracted to provide service to a specific area by a municipality or multiple governmental agencies. Hope this helps you to clear up your thoughts and trust me its is confusing.

I cannot make it since I can not get the day off. Have a good time all and I hope to meet up wioth some of you soon. Izzy

It is common. Many times a fire company had organized independently with a state fire company charter and with no affiliation, would create a fire protection district to fund it collecting taxes. Some time the water supply district would control the and fund a fire company as well. Basically it a question of which came first the chicken or the egg or did they just feel like naming it something different.

That is a 1000 series ALF, not the Century. Centuries had the "bubble out" over the center of the front wheel well to make more room for the rear riding positions and larger diesel engines

The wet / dry switch, thank god they took that out before I became a driver on my old '81 pumper. Everyone told my they were nothing but trouble.
-
Not for me, I don't like that design personally, I would be afraid of knocking down something or backing into the door with it.

That is going to be the most confusing thing for drivers to face. The way CSP does it is that the standard set up is red on the drivers side, blue on the passenger side with take downs in the front and alley on each side. Now for the rear there are three colors. The driver side has a yellow flasher in between two reds to denote to use caution for the exiting trooper and to break up the red and the passenger side has all blue facing the rear. People are not going to remember to move or not because of the blue light location.

I want that Mack C / Aerialscope!!! Where was the graveyard?

Checking out the main pages pics of new 33-55 have to say a sweet rig, but one thing struck me funny in a humorous way. Notice the rear license plate, you think they might not be happy with their pumper??? LOL

Lances are split cabs and do not have the old style block turn signals in the headlight bezzel. Enforcers look like what they have and what you posted.

Do you have a fire commissioner or Board of commissioners at FDMV? Before the union goes to the papers, get them involved with the commission(ers) and chiefs prior to going to the papers, out of respect first. Have them get the city government and get the support from the city's corporation council (city lawyer) to make the appropriate contacts first. If that fails the go to the newspapers, if you go to the papers first with out they your looking for trouble, more than what seems to be happening and there will be a lot of "at odds" and mud-slinging going on and you really don't need that. Get the union lawyers involved also before you make any moves and make sure that legal council finds out the problems and they will help you in the long run. Get as much support from the city government (aka aldermen, selectmen, ect.) and public support as well. This will show were the problem actually is, with the repair facility or the town government. Once that is exposed then your good to go.

If you have Microsoft word installed on your computer (PC's only), it will spell check it for you when you type. But you have to right click the word and a list of correct spellings will come down. I'm not sure how this will be for our fellow Mac users.

Seth did you get the programing software yet? If so I made some profiles and groups foir it for NYC, Suffolk, Nassau and Westchester counties of you want them. Plus CT profiles too. I can send them to you.
-
Could it be a derived from NY's motto being the "Empire State" ? Empress? Just a though.
-
Did you check the websites I told you to look at? Also to do a Google or Yahoo search for "scanner crystals" and you should find them. You'll most likely have to do mail order to get new ones.

Operations on the FG remain the same with the pumps still running and at least one line cracked. The ladder pipe on our ladder was usually drained in-between uses depending how cold it is out. We used to carry extra speedy dry and sand to better the walking area. All our apparatus are stored in our bays and we never ever drain the pumps, by doing that, what ever water is left in the pumps as we go out into the cold freezes more rapidly, Its better to leave the pumps full and if you are asitting there for a while, throw it into pump and turn on the circulators.

Great! He could never win when we needed him to, only in the post season. Should have never re-signed him, another old arm in our bullpen.

Do, have you been reading up on Chuck Berry's past bathroom photography antics????? I bet you a beer the next time I see you that that is probably a symbol for the company who made them, or someone placed a sticker there to screw with people.

Radio Shack maybe, check RadioReference.com, Scannermaster.com and strongsignals.net, they might have links to online stores that still have them. Also try your local electronic shop or Ham Radio shop, they may still have some crystals around. I know there are not too many manufacturers left who make them, if any.

The day you stop seeing apparatus accidents is the day you see a fire truck made like this bus. Besides with the weight that is carried on a truck, the chassis will have to be greatly modified. Apparatus will stick only to the tractor / trailer combo due to weight restrictions on a chassis.

I think they won that. I know the CT Firefighter Pipe & Drum Corps has one they use to promote the unit.

Smeal's design is far better than the Pack Mule by Pierce since you don't loose tanks space and compartment space, basically you loose the rear compartment tunnel area. St. Louis was the first to utilize this design back in the later 80's early 90's when they started purchasing quints, Smeal's first generation design. Smeal has sold a lot or the EZL but Pierce has only sold a few of their design, nor really that great of a design in my opinion. Pierce does have a new flat ladder rack mounded in a "open coffin box" compartment that rolls off the back like the European design pumpers store their ladders, that is a good idea.
