  1. Yah, I don't think any stuff made it to press time.
  2. When are we going to get X635: the flame-thrower???????
  3. They could have charged him with attempted suicide, though. If someone wants to do something dumb and get their name on the "Darwin Awards" then fine, let 'em do it and keep everyone else back. On the other hand if these dummies are caught up in the judicial system then they should be charged with a breach of peace or even criminal mischief.
  4. Wasn't the ORIGINAL Engine 26 the Airport Crash apparatus before DFD decided to make it a full engine company?
  5. hehehehehe Glad someone picked up on it!
  6. Basically she drowned in her on body fluids by not going to the bathroom. DUmb Dumb Dumb, and I'm glad those jerks at the radio station got fired, 11 of them. Now they might be facing criminal charges.
  7. Do you all know what the street value of pure snow is????? We'll be rich!!!
  8. Is it me or lately has FIREHOUSE.COM been dropping the ball a little bit with there news articles on telling where the article is being written about. Over the past year, there have been several incidents, special interest stories or just plain updates that the title will say "Fire hits Massachusetts Home" or Fire Chief in Colorado Promoted" and when you go to read the article, 9 times out of ten, unless it is a big city, they do not give you the town especially when it comes to AP and LexisNexus news links. No where in the teaser, title or in the article itself on Firehouse does it say where this is taking place. Most of the time you either have to go to AP or LexisNexus to find out the location or wait until a second article is posted about the first one. It just seems that no one is seriously looking at or editing the new section on their website nor do they care. So far as for member submitted articles its not bad but there have been some instances where information has been dropped or incorrect. I don't like the fact that they area just lifting information of the news sites and not making sure they have everything. If you want an good example what I'm talking about, look at the article on the main page about the Utah firehouse blaze, the one posted today mentions the name of the town where the fire is, but go to the link under it, which is the first article, it doesn't tell you where it happens. I just think the quality of reporting on the site, unless your a member, has gone down.
  9. I think FF I is enough for the basic / recruit firefighter training, but taking from EMS, continuing education in training such as taking a structural fire fighting class and at least two to three structural burn drills, just like going to an EMS CME, should be done. FF I is the starting grounds or as I like to call it "POINT A" where a common knowledge of fire operations and text book suppression is learned. Now having that basic skill, a person can then learn "the tricks of the trade" so to speak where a new firefighter or a seasoned veteran, can learn new tactics and applications, the basic "If point A does not work, lets try B, C, D, ect." When I was a vol officer, I never said, hey don;t take that, that would be just plain wrong. But I do believe, since I did graduate a double major in college, that the learning process needs to be expanded over a period of time and feel that after FFI that a person should no immediately go into FF II but should take more specific courses such as building construction, fire tactics, apparatus operators courses if they became drivers. They way certain classes are tough or the instructors that teach them have to remember just like the students, the brains cannot be the "10 pounds of junk trying to fit it into a 5 pound bag" scenario. Even for the career guys and gals out their, do you think that a total of 12 weeks is enough for a basic fire fighter's class? While the hours are great for class room and drilling, the brain can only absorb so much too. Also what is the criteria for City of any town FD's firefighting staff, do they have to go through EMS training, Apparatus operations, ECT.? Same problem in the vol ranks. FF I is good enough on all levels as a starting point but continuing education and also good old hands on experience (since every fire is not the same as the previous) is needed for proper training of any unit. More needs to be done between the FFI and FF II Class options.
  10. Remember that Istanbul has several really old structures and thier building construction is not like ours. They area mostly masonry.
  11. They can, that design (the rounded out rigger) was an option introduces when ALF bought LTI. It was something to due with presenting torque or tension twisting, I don't actually remember though but ALF should have some literature on their web site.
  12. Don't even think of that, of you want the risk getting fried then go ahead! If there are any downed wires, set up a perimeter and keep everyone away and call the power company, they are paid to fix the problem and know how too.
  13. I have always been a proponent for Class A uniforms for all emergency services as well as a Class B and working / station jersey.
  14. Remember - Always assume the wire, no matter if it is a power line or even a cable wire, is live! All wires have some sort of current regardless whether it is a cable, phone, primary leg or even a fire alarm wire. Also too, if there area down, remember current can jump even if wires are not touching. And also what ALS said before me, electrical current looks for a ground and it does radiate.
  15. Just a question, why not put one of the ladders up at 2's? Its is a room issue at 2's? Thought you guys wanted to run two engines out of Station 1. As for the building it looks great, hopefully we can get some inside shots or will there be an open house? The doors look great with the re-pointing of the brick.
  16. Ummmm, Roto-Rays have been in the Northeast for years but started to disappear in the 60's due to better lighting. Not for nothing, I wouldn't want one on my rig since they area hard to repair and trucks come with enough lights on them. As for the new pumps and sticks coming in I can't wait to see them. Hopefully I'll hear something when the sticks are up at NEFEA since the shop is only 15 minutes from my house. If I hear anything when hey due come into CT, I'll try to get some spy shots.
  17. Old Ladder 13, the Pierce Arrow, now owned by a company in Maryland, once served as out Ladder 7 while our rig was out for repairs back in 2001.
  18. Before the youngest company was incorporated into our town (org, in 1956 and inc. in 1971) While they had a tanker before the extension of water lines in their area and they had to pay for the up keep of their truck, they hauled water for swimming pools, at least that is the story I had been told. A lot of independent fire companies and even other companies that are funded by a district but own their own tankers outright have done this for many years. A friend's former company in PA has done it for years and still do this. There is nothing wrong with it if it is trying to help a company with its finances but everyone that I know who's department's provide this service do not use city or town vehicles because that is a conflict. If a department owns that particular truck and pay for it's upkeep then there is no conflict. It's good PR and also they have done it so much they know how to cover when performing this.
  19. Would this be inappropriate or childish for my locker??? Just adding some humor to lighten the siltation.
  20. Date:1 / 12/ 07 Time: 1055hrs (Pacific) Location: Hayvenhurst Avenue X Napa/Chase streets. Departments: LAFD Description: Buisness Jet took off from Van Nuys Airport enroute to Long Beach with a baggage door open. 21. I saw the video and man that is a major problem. It looks like a combination of a chassis and suspension problem. Going down the road, that chassis looks like its bending, I wonder if it could be torque issues with the transmission. Definately need to see all the specs on this one so Albion didn't over look something hopefully and I really think they got hosed. When we went to bid on our truck we looked at ALF since we had a 1981 Century, which. It was a really good and reliable truck for us. We had nothing bu problems with the dealer (who will remain nameless) with them giving us specs totally wrong or not what we want and we had to chase them where they should have been chasing us. Their attitude was we have an ALF so were gonna get another, NOPE! Hopefully Albion will get this issue resolve, no manufacturer should let a truck acting like that out of their shops!
  22. Can't view it with out subscribing to the online newspaper.
  23. I really don't think they should post anyone's pay personally, especially in this day and age of identity theft and such.
  24. WHOOOHOOOO!! Finally some snow flurries out my window in lovely Ansonia, too bad it won't last or accumulate!
