University Hospital of Newark staffs a heavy rescue as part of the EMS contract with Newark. It is manned by two EMT's or paramedics. They mostly due vehicle extrication, but are equipped to do high-angle rope rescue, trench rescue, and industrial/marine rescue. They do not go into fires with Newark FD.

3.4 million for one vehicle? No way! Aerialscopes are only 1.2. It has to be for more than one vehicle.

Most of New Jersey's career firefighters who have their time in to retire are retiring like crazy. They are all leaving before Christie changes the pension and caps payouts of used sick, vacation, and unpaid overtime. Can't blame them. Its happening all over the state.

"He (or the plaintiffs) don't have to show how or why the pass rates for minorities/non-minorities are so different (hell, they don't even have to understand why there is a disparity), rather, the plaintiff only has to show there is a statistical anomaly" I do not agree with the ruling either, but if NYC has to amend their testing, how do you know what to amend if no examples backed with statistical proof are given? How do you fix something when you dont know whats broken? If it is truly discriminatory, the plantiffs should have to provide specfics of what exactly is discriminatory period!

What exactly about the test is discriminatory, reading? math, science? I havent heard why the test discriminates, just that it does. Anybody have more info on this?

FDNY is currently in the process of switching to a all UHF system. Right now all radio traffic is being simulcasted over both VHF and UHF. This all started over the spring/summer.

Under the FDNY union contract, front line apparatus are supposed to be replaced every 10 years. That quite hasnt been happening lately, I see they are about a year or two off on replacements. I do not how long apparatus stay in reserve or as spares.

Lets get some more facts. Did the police search his vehicle due to the school saying they saw a knife in the car, or was it really the school who preformed the search? Did the student consent to the search? I don't agree with the length of the suspension, but in this post Columbine and VT school world, schools are being more cautious than every before. Facts due get distorted after the news of the incident breaks. Student safety is the number one priority in this post violent attack world. I due agree with at least one police officer in every school to deter crime.

All of the new FDNY apparatus are being built with stainless steel, resists corrison, and holds up better over the lifetime of the apparatus. As many can see, apparatus all over the US has been lasting longer to stainless steel and better construction quality. Usual problem with apparatus today are either electrical or hydraulic in nature, too many damn sensors.

Unified command, one from each jurisdiction, but only one operations officer designated by the unified command.

Its happening to the fire service all over the US, bad economy and public safety suffers while big business is being bailed out WITH bonuses. Only in America. At least they are brownouts and not complete closures, either way, safety should be priority, not greddy business men.
