  1. I have one in my attic....I will donate it
  2. Thats pretty scary...one has to be VERY in tune to the inner workings of Civil Service law to be effective in hiring/bargaining process...one of my former partners on the bus is a Deputy Chief of a combo department...and he is VERY well versed in that...we'd talk and some of the rules would make my head spin...it's not to be taken lighlty for sure... Sorry for the hijack.
  3. Wait....a person in a position that gets voted on, and could change yearly, is resposible for the hiring process of permanent career staff? I guess I had never thought of that....as the combo departments around here have career Chiefs (Deputy Chief...but not from lack of trying)....but that could be interesting...and dare I say...somewhat of a concern, given the potential volitlity and inherent ever changing leadership of the volunteer service...
  4. As you are well aware of Cap, past practice here is that the career members see ANY sort of benefit/reward/perk/etc recieved by volunteers as "payment" in exchange for their service - and wonder how they can consider themselves volunteers... There IS some merit to the thought, but it has been beat SO many times here, it's just not worth taking the bait... And while I respect him, I honestly doubt JFlynn's sincerity with his post in the other thread - he is just fishing.....
  5. Man if THAT isnt a Trojan Horse............
  6. NOTHING good can come from this one!
  7. You can always see Bill's photos on his site - www.fdphotounit.com It is one of my favorites. Bill's Photos
  8. Truck 4 usually does that...i am interested in generating interest in Dutchess.
  9. Kudos Bro...Job well done!
  10. "Does this old engine make my a** look fat?" LOL!
  11. It RAN?!?!?!? Is it in service yet? LOL! CONGRATS MARK - AWESOME JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. Joe - I am SO glad to see you write that..no, I do not have a portable. I have been a member in JHK for just over one year and have seen more fire here than my last 3 at Millbrook - as an Officer. Not once have I been in a crew, whether it be the roof, or inside, that has been equipped with a portable radio. The fire on Bannister Lane, when we went in, the stereo was still on and playing The Who VERY loud, so I turned it off, just so we could communicate...however, at no time did we have communications with the outside, other than when I hung my head outside the window...VERY SCARY.... I have always made an effort to have a light, and a radio with me at all times...this past year has been trying, but I understand as a new member. I am very glad that you, as a soon to be Deputy Chief acknowledge their importance..Thank you!
  13. Oh my Lord that is a nice Tower! I love the color!
  14. Balls.........working 4 x 12 both nights.......
  15. Copperfields is indeed in Salt Point proper, in the Pleasant Valley Fire District. If you have enough beer and stand on the end of the walkway into the front door, you should have enough PSI to pee into the Town of Washington, Millbrook Fire Disctrict.
  16. Mask, Radio, Light....sounds so simple...WHY can't some people get it!?
  17. I am very glad to read that, since in a week or so you will be stepping up to Deputy Chief of Department...the department I am in as well... You know I will be holding you to that! You know as well as I do it isn't always feasible to shut down the road, and while it would be ideal...it just aint gonna happen all the time! If we DID close the road each time (nationally speaking), how many more cases of firemen getting arrested by cops would we see! Let the peepeeing matches begin! MOD NOTE: Line removed and moved to new thread on personnel communications to keep this thread on topic.
  18. I saw a Durango in Red Oaks Mill the other day...figured with the blue light it was just a buff's car....
  19. Link to POJO News While a VERY nice idea and gesture, I do wish there was a "nicer" place to put this....why not at the County Fire Headquarters? I think it would get FAR more visitors there, there is always a steady stream of members at County...Mansion Square...well, let's just stay there is a steady stream of....others But, again, very nice. I can not wait to see it. I hope it NEVER has another name added to it. However............... That statement is a little dramatic..........
  20. Well...if anyone can find a loophole. it would be you! Will it say FDNR on the front above the grille?
  21. I think ole Goose may have been around Dutchess a time or two...let's not turn this into a county pissing match... I agree that we typically talk about calls such as this...but not online...not in a public forum. Out of respect to the family and the Brothers from AFD...this should disappear.
  22. Absolutley! After talking to a respected Past Chief both here and in person, I have changed my tune...a little.. However, in some areas, there are a majority of members at calls, including officers and Cheifs, that do not even wear PPE, or maybe might throw a coat on...maybe just the hitches....it happens more often than it should. I, however, wear full PPE all of the time...I LIKE wearing my gear...I HATE feeling or being unprepared or unprotected... So...would I get my balls busted for being in full PPE minus a vest as opposed to the "other guys" wearing street clothes?
