  1. Taking something from another post and making it a poll... Do you wear a hood, nomex or otherwise in a fire?
  2. A commercial ambulance does not have the authority to cancel a fire department unit's response. They should all be aware of this, and if they attempt, it is uneccesary transmission.
  3. If an ambulance says that on Poughkeepsie Fire - they just wasted thier breath and my air time.
  4. I am not digging the ESU lookalike uniforms AT ALL! Why on earth would want to LOOK LIKE cops?
  5. Shoulda seen that cat in high school!
  6. If it's not - it should be!
  7. Looks like a great set up Mark. Andrew and I were getting ready to head down to the water when he acted up, so he was punished and not allowed to go.
  8. These pics bring to light another tactic that is a high prioroty when confronted with heavy fire conditions is EXPOSURE PROTECTION! Bring plenty of water and protect the trailers around.
  9. I see in the POJO recently Arlingotn were all vested up, even the DC. Looked good....now maybe if the TPPD get on board.... And for your PURE viewing pleasure..............
  10. I too, did one of these for my senior project...WAAAAYyyyyyyyyy back in 1993!
  11. I was waiting to see how long it would be before that was brought up..... It looks like the majority of posters here all agree...the booster is useful in limited scenarios, mostly restricted to light duty apparatus.
  12. LOL...I remember that job...a door pop with the HUGE HEAVY Hurst tool...I was all bugged up after that...
  13. Thay have NO IDEA!
  14. I am so jealous...we never did cool stuff like that in the 90's............
  15. A six fooot steel hook (NY style) is invaluable for pulling the siding off of these "tindominiums"...
  16. What do my fellow glasses wearing brothers do when wearing a mask? Myself - I wear my contacts as often as possible, but I dont always have them in when a call goes out..I buy my glasses with small frames so they fit inside the mask. What other options are out there? I HAD a set of the specs pictured here, but I can not find them to get lenses put in.....they would be the best bet for me I think. Anyone know where to buy them?

  18. You had made the fire room, flowing water, the OV effected ventilation of the fire room, and things went south? is it just me or does that not make sense? Was that PPV fan deployed before the OV vented? I might be reading it wrong...but again..something's not right there?
  19. I have limited experience with them, as my old district was zoned to outlaw trailer homes, however, I had been to a few mutual aid trailer fires. My current department has many, both in parks and scattered around town. My experience is that like a house - no two are alike, and the all burn very differently. I have made interioir attacks in trailers just as I would in a traditional home, and have seen some, like the one behind my house, that was going stem to stern in minutes. Like any other fire, it is very important to do your personal size up, eyeball the fire conditions, read the smoke, look for your exits... Be cautious of the roof! it is typically one long sheet of aluminum - which if collapses - easily can trap you...like being under a huge blanket that you can't punch through.
  20. Jacobi has it all....and I would think is closer to NR than WMC...at least a straighter shot.
  21. I would love to do lasik or PRK...someday..........
  22. I disagree with notion that if you wear a mask, you cant see anyways....respectfully. MY experience is that I see ALOT with my mask on....sure going down a dark hallway charged with smoke may be zero viz, but I carry a light (ordered a super duper version today!)...I see a bit..I see when I am opening a roof...operating on a ladder or aerial...I see in haz mat situations and CO alarms, I see most of the times I have my pack on...in fact - I wear my mask a fraction of the time I have my pack on...I need to see in those instances. That is the major reason that I do not want mask mounted specs.
  23. Wow....that p[icture is worth a thousand words. Posts like this and the ones by ALS, x134, and others make me think twice on my personal stance.
